    Cheers for this. I recently started my own journey and first little project near complete, but these tips are really useful. Your videos have helped and I know my biggest setback right now is setting aside clear time for development.
    I'll keep at it and keep reviewing your videos. Cheers for everything 😊

I am so glad to hear that about your project! if you ever have time someday I would love to play it!! setting aside clear time and developing at that clean time is truly so important! I am just so glad to hear that you are coming to a close on your first project! that is such an amazing accomplishment!

    Hi DevWorm, thanks- I needed to hear this!
    I'm about a month into development of my first title and already I'm getting torn between creating essential game features, developing a visual style, creating sprite art/animation, and conceptualsing game elements + game lore.
    After this video I'm downloading Notion and going to do some reading on task prioritisation.
    Thanks again!

    The solo game dev life isn't easy. If you want to create a finished, marketable product that doesn’t lack in functionality, art/animation, music/sound etc, you need to be outstanding in at least one area and good in the others. So the required focus may vary depending on the dev and the game being worked on. But personally, I think that learning a variety of skills and seeing your improvements with each project is a lot of fun.

    • @dev-worm
      @dev-worm  3 месяца назад

      that is very true!! having all the skills is so important!! What you mentioned at the end is very true! I love looking at my old projects and seeing how i have improved!

    I actually develop for as long as I can stand without putting in any real graphics or sound (or using placeholder art and sound). This makes things much faster to iterate on and also much easier to change or throw stuff out until you know you have commited 100% to something in the game. Also if you have got something that feels "ok" at that stage it will feel fantastic when you put real graphics and sound to it.

    Question? Using a game engine like Godot for making 2D top down games. Is it quicker or easier to make a game with compared to something like Lua and LOVE2D which I just found out is a framework or its about the same amount of time? looking to use a simple programming language but at the same time not build everything from scratch. Do you find it easy to build games with Godot? Sorry been googling and its hard to find comparisons of these 2 technogolies.

      Hi, there’s plenty of image packs available for purchase. If you don’t have a lot to spend I would personally recommend keeping an eye on humblebundle. They often game image and music bundles.
      If you want to learn to draw: the only honest advice anyone could give you is to simple start drawing. Take time every day. Try harder and harder things. And if you run into difficulties: Good! That means you know what to focus on.
      Of course there are billions of “how to draw” tutorials, and they can be very helpful, but simply looking at them will only give you the feeling that you’re improving. Truly improving only comes with practice.

      hmm I would probably create an area2d on the player and on the jump pad… then in the players area2d signal when an area entered.. and check to see if that area is the jumppad area and if so call the “velocity.y += jumppad_power” within the player script! I really hope this helps, if you are having any issue then just let me know!!
