This song came out when I related to it most. Still hits me after 2 years. MMF has always been so real with their lyrics.

I've grown to love how all the bands from this genre have evolved from straight screams, to honing their craft and using their screams as emphasis for the message as opposed to setting the tone for the whole

This is the first song by this band that I've heard. I've been listening to it on repeat for two days.
Tfw you read the lyrics and realize that this entire song is a cry from Matty, wanting to go back to writing music with passion and feeling instead of the radio rock shit that Rise is probably forcing them to shovel out.

Forcing them? I mean they didn't have to sign to Rise. There isn't a gun to Matty's head making him put out this lukewarm material, especially not since they've had far better and heavier material come out on Rise already. The song is just Matty being Matty, complaining about how hard it supposedly is being Matty. It's his favorite lyrical topic.

@@Th3Burn1nator Yes, believe it or not, I'm aware of the concept of a contract that obligates a band to release 'X' albums under the label. However--and if you'd bothered to read or attempt to understand what I said you'd know this--being that they've released better and heavier music on Rise before, there's nothing to suggest that Rise is suddenly "forcing them to shovel out" watered down songs like this. To say that is complete conjecture.
@@MrKyel17 It was kind of a joke, because I know how Matty is as far as writing, haha.
That being said, in the past Rise has been accused of doing exactly what I said. Bands don't have to sign to any label, as you said, but once a band DOES sign to a label they are usually under contract for 3 records or so and the label almost always has the power to wear the pants in the relationship or at minimum influence an artist's direction.
Not to say that I know which ones do or do not choose to do that, I was just making a joke.
Why can't yall realize people change. That means sound too I believe he has a reason to change his sound for the best of the band and himself. Matty you do an amazing job God Bless you and keep doing inspiring work

A lot of early to mid 2000's bands like MMF have gradually become more melodic and opting for a less heavier sound. I'm starting to feel like it's becoming the new cookie cutter trend.
It's always been like this with a lot of the ML bands over the years and have sort of hopped on to the same bandwagon so to speak.
To be honest this isn't a bad song and sort of sticks.

I remember when people didn't really know them yet. One of my friends forgot their CD in my car by accident. So, I started listening to it and fell in love with their music. I loved just about every song on it, the album was called Challenger. Honestly, don't know how they didn't get notice way sooner than they did. They have so much talent. I love Memphis May Fire. ❤
I have had MS for nearly 9 years now and this song has so much meaning to me. I played college baseball and then again after college, but struggle now daily to get through each day. Just started listening to memphis may fire. Now I'm stoked I get to see them in 2wks at louder than life. It's like a male version if Jinger, by that I mean a nice singing voice that can be turned into a roaring scream like a light switch.

Even thoug I miss the old MMF, I think we as listeners should be able to recognize good music and boring music. This song is very different from the old MMF. However is veeery good! Catchy melody, simple and solid structure, creative with different elements from the old MMF. I understand some decisions are based in market expectation and I'm just glad to see that MMF is completly capable to create good music again. I didn't like "This Light I Hold" but I'm excited to hear "Broken Now". Long live to MMF.

He is true to his struggles, its an everyday thing. And those who are lost in the world would like nothing more than to tear him down. Which in turn leads him to make songs like this.

Man, I still remember the first time I heard Prove Me Right and Challenger as a whole. I became obsessed with this band, and I even went to Warped for the first time ever just to see them. Watched Matty’s Brian Stars interviews, all of that.
Now....I just don’t even know what this is. Like, I could get on board with Unconditional and listened to it a lot. This Light I Hold had a couple of songs I liked and it was okay, but this sound is just something I can’t get behind.
