There are some world class straight reggae bands and a lot of acts like the early Police who were heavily influenced by it. There was a whole genre of bands and music in the 80s known as "Two Tone" with kids from black and white communities who grew up alongside each other getting together to make a kind of fusion of pop and reggae while consciously projecting a message of racial and cultural integration.
