What about “Arcade” from Full Moon Features??
🤔 🤔
came here to say this - came out the year before so... I say YEP
The movie was good in the first two acts, but it fell off the rails in the third act.
Thats the old style CD-ROM drive. You put the disc in a caddy and loaded it like that. Pain in the ass but there was no need for a tray mechanism then.
Saw this coming up and rewatched the movie just for the occasion.
P.S.
Have you guys considered putting Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight on the itinerary?
Yup! We’re going to tackle it when we do the Tales from the Crypt series.
@@MovieDumpster
I shall wait in eager anticipation.
@@Draliseth as will I, second one not so great but Demon Knight is awesome
I loved this mu- I mean movie. Truthfully, this and Freddy v Jason has the two best metal soundtracks
Have you guys ever heard of a 1993 horror film, called “Ghost in the machine”? That be obscure movie to review someday.
Fun fact: over a hundred lines of coke were snorted during the making of this film. A week.
Oooooooh boy. This is going to be fun. This is one of my personal classics. Used to watch the shit out of this back then and I even bought it on dvd a few years ago.
You guys did an awesome job with the font in the Brainscan logo at the end of the clip.
Thank you so much! It was a fun one to make. -Joe
@@MovieDumpster Can't wait to watch it later!
Wow I can't believe it's been 30 years since the flim. Came out i was 11 years old and now I'm 41 yikes 😳😳
I couldn't ask for a better surprise today! This makes up for no dr giggles review yet. This will be a popular stream
Dr. Giggles is coming! Not sure when, but he'll be here!
@@MovieDumpster all good joe at this point my asking for dr giggles is basically a running joke.
This is probably the most fun live chat premiere I've been a part of. It's our own horror club.
Back then in the mid late 1990s when i was in high school and my family we had HBO at the time, i watched some of Brainscan late night one time. Good movie a bit gory with little bit of nudity. then just last year i watched Brainscan on Tubi and the movie is still pretty good for a 1990s horror sci fi movie movie
I had a record it on HBO on blank video 📼 . I watched it about a 100 * and I still have a crush on Edward furlong .I love the movie and it's cross between nightmare on elm Street 2 and video drone amazing 😍😍🤩
Edward Furlong was on Michael (Smallville) Rosenbaum's Podcast,Fairly Recently & He seems like a pretty cool dude!
I listened to that. The story he told about Terminator 3 really was a bummer. But, then again, so was Terminator 3. I'm glad he got himself sober.
@@Dralisethyeah T3 wasn't that great, despite having Arnie in it
T3 is like the third best one! I’d rather watch 3 then Genysis.
And absolutely looking forward to the FREAKED review 👍👍👍👍🤙🤙
After going through the entire MD catalog, I think Sean has hated about 78 percent of low budget 80s to 90s horror movie yall have covered. Starting to imagine that Sean just views everything as Circus Music 😂
Rumplestiltskin still takes the taco! 😂
Thank you fellas for reviewing this movie, I've been a huge fan of this movie for years, you guys are awesome, many blessings to you all and see ya next review🙏🤙also let's see Brainscan 2🧠
Thank you so much! We’re glad you enjoyed the show! 🙏💚📼
@ 43:22 When CD-ROMs first came on the market you had to place them in a jewel like case first then insert that in the computer. ...and I feel old for knowing that
Furlong had some good roles in American History X and Detroit Rock City and did a good job as a creepy Momma’s boy in Pet Sematary 2 , but he did have Clancy Brown and Anthony Edwards to work off and the movie was Shite as well 😂
Totally forgot to talk about that, haha. -Joe
Childhood memories. 👏
One of my all time personal favorite. Watch it and Trick or Treat together just gives me the perfect soooky vibes when heading into October
If you liked this movie and lawnmower man..You guys should do 1993s ghost in the machine, it would fit in the MDU nicely.
This is surely a product of it’s time. FMV and point and click games were at their peaks and this movie is heavily influenced by this genre. First time I watched it was probably 95 or 96 on Super Ecran (french Canadian HBO) and I already did Voyeur and Phantasmagoria games and this is probably one of the reason Iiked that movie so much.
Good watch
I love when you guys review something I had forgotten I watched in my childhood
I'll always love a good trickster myth. From the Vikings to the Native American ones represented by a crow (wait...The Crow looks like The Joker...), we gotta have a cyber version. Not saying we got Terminators n Lawnmower men maybe the continuation or something...why they cant trick cgi to look real is my best guess. Well for the 90s for sure...though one could argue the same for us nowadays years from now...
Joe just gave me Nam flashbacks of gravity bong seshes from back in the day 😆. When you guys were talking about Edward Furlong's post T2 filmography, instantly thought of the John Waters film "Pecker"(an MD review could be a hilarious, MDU fuel)& "Detroit Rock City".
You guys are awesome. I seen this at the Silver Moon Drive-In as a double feature with In the Mouth of Madness.
Hardware review in the future maybe???
Thanks for watching! Definitely want to cover Hardware. We were gonna do it a few years back, maybe now it’s time.
@@MovieDumpster I would love it!
Ahh my friend had a 5 foot rain meter bong. We had to stand on a step ladder to reach the top. Total waste of bad weed. Good times
The Trickster is seriously underrated as a villain. I like the idea of an evil Genie from Aladdin.
Someone else beat me to it,but Peter Billingsley (Ralphie), A.J. Langer and Seth Green starred in Arcade the previous year. Early 90's CGI at its finest!
Glad I found you guys. Need my movie description and laaughter fix while at work. The next RLM here folks.
Thanks for giving us a chance and we’re glad you’re enjoying the show! 🙏💚📼

The story sounds like "video games cause violence," like a Satanic panic sort of thing. Not sure if the movie was trying to take it seriously or make a satire of it.
Always thought the tech in this movie was awesome back then, and trickster was pretty fun with a weird taste in music : p the thriller element works ok if your around the kids age in the movie : )
While not the entire movie, the earliest version of Video Game Horror I can think of is from the 1983 anthology, Nightmares. The second segment features Emilio Estevez against "The Bishop of Battle".
Yes! I didn’t mention it because it was part of an anthology. Nightmares rules! -Joe
Why does everyone that still owns vhs tapes have a copy of teenage mutant ninja turtles 3?? Lol
Damn, this movie is blowing up on all my feeds. Think im gonna need to rent
Just buy it! Totally worth it. Also, it’s the 30th anniversary!
Absolutely a must watch. In fact watch it tonight before the premiere!
Furlong also did American Heart with Jeff Bridges before Brainscan. Great film! Jeff Bridges favorite performance. Um, pretty sure Pet Sematary 2 came out prior to Brainscan as well.
It did! We forgot to mention Pet Semetary Two. I think the point I was trying to make was that he was literally in a big drama movie with an Oscar winner right before Brainscan, and this was the beginning of this decline, unfortunately. -Joe
@@MovieDumpsterFor sure! Check out American Heart if you're ever in the mood for a solid drama! Great episode, by the way.
Trickster is like an evil Maurice from Little Monsters in addition to those other references. Especially when he pops up in his room.
Yea, I mention it near the end how he’s also like Maurice, haha. -Joe
I feel like Trickster is a more evil version of Drop Dead Fred.
Absolutely 😁
My friend had a four ft bong and that shit was always fun to hit, it was like an initiation for any new people. We would get a kick when someone would blow snot out their nose and totally flub it
Sean saying "the whole dream thing, I hate it", I have to completely disagree and calling it a "dream" is definitely selling it short. It's a movie about a GAME where throughout pretty much the whole movie we are experiencing the GAME.
When you play a video game, are we imagining it? Or experiencing it? The heck did he want ? Elm street Dream logic?
That does actually make sense, I just felt like it was a cop out. It just ends abruptly with the detective shooting Michael and he wakes up. Could have been executed better in my opinion if that was the goal. -Sean
@@MovieDumpster I can respect that. It also makes sense that you're gonna feel completely differently about some of these as most of these late 80s and early 90s low/mid budget horrors were staples of my childhood. Hard not to re-watch them today without that haze of nostalgia casting a shroud around the experience.
I enjoyed this film, saw it in the theater and had the soundtrack as well...
5 out of 5. These guys are awesome!
Thanks for watching!
Guys! Mono is a thing, I've had it, and yes it is from making out!
43:17 Those were early CD drives that you had to put the CD into a cartage and push the whole thing into the drive.
dodgeball is first when he gets fat again he looses the weight and does heavyweights and finally after he snaps brain scan happens in the future
I remember in school we had to write a horror story knockoff of Beowulf for Halloween and my teacher actually loved it I set the curve for that lol. But when my mom read it she was like you're sick. do you need help. lol
Wait a minute. Haven't you forgot something?
Finally I find wtf was the goddamn song he was dancing ps the first time I saw this was in Spanish
I'm home, recovering from surgery, and I'm really enjoying your videos. Brainscan was never a favorite of mine, but it is a pretty unique concept for the time it was made and I think it plays better if you're a gamer like me.
Thanks for watching, man! Speedy recovery to you!! 🙏💚📼
@@MovieDumpster Thanks!
Dang I'm glad you guys did this one I love this movie seen it alot as a kid and it definitely gave me trick or treat vibes
Does anyone know the name of the second song that's played in the end credits ?
To quote marty mcfly he's a peping tom
I can see not liking it without the nostalgia but throughout the review I totally thought you were going to like
New 'sode?!
Yup! We were going to release it this weekend but it didn’t shake out. So, we’re dropping a bunch of stuff this week, starting off with a Brainscan review!
Brainscan vs cyboman rd 1 fight
What a great episode! I can't help but laugh when joe loses his shit lol
God I watched that movie so much in my teens
YES!! You guys have to do Freaked!
Technically Nightmares 1983 showcased the first horror movie video game. The Emilio Estevez sequence shows the video game itself coming to life and un-aliving him. That being said I still love Brainscan for what it is -- a massively disturbing film with an awesome badass villain and a great soundtrack.
Sure, I didn’t mention it because it’s not a full movie. But you’re right! -Joe
I genuinely enjoyed this movie
Damn Skippy buzzed as hell and now this hell yeah
i cant wait for this
Can't wait to watch this one guys!! Is this movie worth a watch?
We think so!
@@MovieDumpsterwill definitely check it out! Eddie Furlong is a pretty good actor! Loved him in T2!
This gunna be good. Haven't watched this movie in a long time.
1:08:19 my Spidersense is tingling!
Brain Scan 2 Demonic Boogaloo
Don't forget about Hellrazor Hellworld. Technically a video game movie.
I actually like the idea of the trickster just being a voice on the other end of the telephone. That sounds way creepier than what we got. And it would have cost less since they wouldn’t have needed all the makeup.
I really don’t think Eddie could have carried this movie without a “villain” -Joe
@@MovieDumpster I agree it should have been cast with a more capable actor. Do you think Macaulay Culkin or Elijah Wood could have done a better job?
@@pc_gaijin I mean, Elijah would have crushed it.
@@MovieDumpster although he may have been to young for the roll at that time.
For some reason i keep thinking of john connor sitting in the back row of that fucking film class trading polaroids with rudy from the monster squad
BRAINSCAN was my jam back when it came out!
I treat horror movies like I treat songs - I don't have a favorite overall; I have the one I'm listening to over and over at the time.
BRAINSCAN had its turn caught in that loop. I recorded it off of Cinemax on VHS . . . '95 / '96-ish - somewhere around the 9th grade.
I watched it every morning before school, and watched it again that night.
In real life, I was the kid who wanted a horror club, and I had my Fangoria magazines and a stack of Stephen King novels . . .
BRAINSCAN takes me back!
This flim good fun watch but the hellraiser hell wolrd is ruff have u guy talk about that one?
We have not! We might tackle it at some point
I get the feeling that Trickster is the dealer in P Head and Cumdars poker game.
Oh you know it 🤣 give him one of those green visors
Another underrated classic. I rewatched this a couple years ago. I love early 90s horror movies; so creative and weird.
Classic !!!!!!🥁🔥🥁🙌
Demonic Tony Perkis!!! You guys should turn the MDU into a deep dive video or make a scp type game...love the vids❤
We’ve talked about it, haha. One day when we can just focus on the show we would absolutely love to do that. Thanks for all of your support! 🙏💚📼
@@MovieDumpster That would be dope balls...yall always will have my support...one day i aspire to be a loremaster in the MDU
Joes impressive Ed furlong voice is Hilarious
Saw this around when it came out at like 10 and loved it ever since. Still have the VHS. Need to watch it again.
First time I saw this movie, I honestly thought F. Murray Abraham was playing The Trickster.
I know right 😃😐
Caught the part where you guys said you’re not working solely for yourself? Really pulling for you guys love your stuff
Yea, we still work 9-5 jobs all week and produce, shoot, edit, design, and post everything, just the two of us. Thank you so much for your support! 🙏💚📼
@@MovieDumpster I found your reviews when I started having heart issues really appreciate you guys. Cyboman 4 life … I remember watching this yrs ago and when he drank the milk all regarded like I was like wtf am I watching 😂😂😂
Funny, few days ago a friend was telling me about thus crazy movie.
As a movie I always tell ppl to watch. Dead Heat. Zombie buddy cop movie. With a Vincent Prince cameo.
Dead Heat is amazing!
GREAT EPISODE AS ALWAYS GUYS, EXCITED TO SEE YOU GUYS COVERING THIS ONE ON THE SHOW!
Thanks, dude! 🙏💚📼
I manage a fine dining restaurant in NC. We have a guest who has that mullet haircut, and every time he comes in, I try to rally everyone to look at Brainscan pictures. 😂
Great episode guys! I didn't even know this one exsited!
Thanks for watching! Def check it out!
35:35
I felt that.
Respect for sharing.
Brainscan is 'teen budget Videodrome' at best. Not terrible, not great, just kinda fun.
I found this a good 90s horror. This is one that I could see getting remade in modern era. Furlong for me worked in this he's not a great actor or even a good one but he's good at playing outsider characters like in this T2 and Pet Sematary 2 and Detroit Rock City.
Lol. Your eyes are not fooling ya. That looked like an early NEC CD-ROM drive. They used a case that you put the CDs in and loaded them like a floppy drive. It's an odd, possibly obscure piece of tech.
Kinda like the NEC pc-cd160. Other companies had some like it and put them in external cases like the one in the movie.
The score is amazing in this movie. Makes this movie what it is. It’s like John Carpenter’s music in Halloween. Also used in an early 3-6 Mafia song.
Thanks for the review!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏💚📼
Another great example of having a vague memory of a cover at the video store but never watching it BUT thanks to you definitely checking this out. I'm shocked videogame horror hasn't had a resurgence. Big fan of Stay Alive and where we are with practical/computer effects, game graphics, VR and Esport pupularity I'm shocked we don't have a new version of that type of horror.
Hyped for this one
Love that custom intro :)
Thanks, man! 🙏💚📼
"you want a foot? i'll get ya foot" lol nice reference! with nail polish?
Absolutely needs nail polish! 😂
@@MovieDumpster thanks for the laughs guys! really enjoy the mdu🤣
I always remember seeing this movie in the video store, but it was one of those things where you thought it was actually a different movie. I don't remember if I saw this in the 90's or not, but I just watched it the other day and it was not close to what I expected. Overall I liked it a lot, because of how it is not a typical horror movie. Something about it made me very nostalgic for the 90's too.
I have no idea how I missed this first time around, as I was at the prime age and interest level for such a film. Thanks for serving this up guys!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏💚📼
This movie brings back good memories. Of when I used ask my parents to rent this for me. Back in the very late 90s, into the early 2000s at blockbuster video on the weekends.
First off, love this movie!
Secondly, I just had two thoughts while watching your review;
- there was only one disc the whole time.
- what if that kid who died by seizure from the game didn't finish his mission on time. If you don't finish the game, you die.
Man, when I was a kid, my dad took my brother and I to see Brainscan in the theater. At the time, I was scared of horror movies still, so I was hesitant to watch a horror movie in the theaters. My older brother peer pressured me into it, and I’m glad he did. Brainscan kicked off my love for horror. I know, it’s a crazy movie to make that statement about, but it’s true.
Great review. This was my first video of yours, great stuff! You guys are really on point with all of your references!
Hey, thanks for watching and we’re glad you enjoyed the show! 🙏💚📼
One of my favorite video game movies. Stay Alive is a good one too
