I know what you mean by it being a "cozy" movie. This is one of the flicks my wife and I put on when we go to bed. We've done that for years with this film. Some people need a fan, ocean sounds, birds chirping . . . we need Dolls.
Storm of the Century is like that for me. At least once a winter I watch it, preferably when it's snowing, and you're just hunkered down for the day, in your pj's and fuzzy blanket, eating soup or hot chocolate. It's my comfort movie.☺️
The best thing about getting into Stuart Gordon is how deep his filmography is. Even when you've seen his top 5 films, you still have many great ones to see!
Yeah boy, Empire Pictures! Looking forward to listening this at work later.
Saw this in the theater when I was 15 or 16. The 80's were such a magical time for movies. It was so awesome getting to see so many great movies in theaters unlike today.
Oh my word, oh my word! Yes guys! Yes! I have been wanting some Stuart Gordon, Doll-tastic action from you guys since forever! I am enthralled and mesmerised by the absolute beauty you have given me!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏💚📼
Carrie Lorraine had a small part in _Poltergeist II,_ as one of 'Kane's People' (i.e., the doomed 19th-century cultists seen in the vision experienced by Mrs Freeling). She also appeared in an episode of the early-80s sitcom _Buffalo Bill,_ which starred Dabney Coleman, John Fiedler, Joanna Cassidy, Geena Davis, and - oddly enough - future _ALF_ star Max Wright. These days, Carrie actually works as an attorney in California.
Only Joe and Sean can make me overcome my fears and enjoy a review out evil toys😂
We did it together! 😂
Just watched this movie for the first time, it's one if the better low-budget flicks from the time. The stop motion was insane
Can't wait to watch soon guys!!
All of those old fashioned dolls were already scary looking to begin with.
When I first watched this, I thought it wouldn't be out of place as a Tales from the Darkside episode
You have to do Vicious Lips.
30 minutes in to the episode i bought the bu ray.
The force is strong with these two😂
Enjoy! 🙏💚📼
My second Favorite STUART GORDON Horror Film after RE-ANIMATOR with the Original CASTLE FREAK being my #3 favorite STUART GORDON Horror Film 😃🤘😃🤘
Yes, Dolls is an excellent movie. Definitely worthy of anybody's shelf.
i remember that vhs box cover from my childhood
I love this movie! I also avoided this when I was young because the cover was scary and stood out from the others. I regret not watching it sooner.
You're so right. This one really stands out as one of those covers you remember from your childhood horror section wanderings at the local video store. Such a shame that movie experience is gone! I've been meaning to watch Dolls for a while but for some reason never got around to it. Thanks to this video I'm fixing that this week.
Enjoy!
Another great vid guys! This is also in the Empire of Screams set from Arrow. I had never seen it until I purchased the set and I loved it. The first punk girl is from the A-Ha "Take on Me" video.
Such a great set! And that’s crazy! Someone mentioned the before. Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
Thank you so much for covering this one, I thought you guys had already reviewed it in a podcast but I must have mistaken it for a different one previously covered, anyhow, massive big ups! One of my favorite all-time favs since childhood that still manages to scare the shit out of me every time even as an adult!
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
Yuppers in the video store as a kid dolls and Chucky two cover I was just telling my woman how they scared the ba Jesus out of me lmao
GREAT EPISODE GUYS! CANT BELIEVE IT TOOK THIS LONG TO GET TO “DOLLS”!
Thanks for watching, man! 🙏💚📼
@@MovieDumpsterOF COURSE! I WISH I COULDVE MADE IT TO THE LIVE CHAT BUT I WORK NIGHTS UNFORTUNATELY.
I HAVENT FINISHED THE EPISODE YET, BUT I HAVE TO ASK, I KNOW THE QUESTION IS IF THIS IS THE BEST FANTASY HORROR. I KNOW JOE IS A HUGE FAN OF “COMPANY OF WOLVES”, WOULD THAT BE CONSIDERED A FANTASY/ HORROR? BOTH GREAT MOVIES FOR SURE!
Oh it definitely is! Though it’s more an art film. It’s our next ep so stay tuned! 💚📼
@@MovieDumpsterCANT WAIT!
I always get this movie confused with Dolly Dearest for some reason i think it has something with the posters tbh Dolls is a very good movie I loved every bit of it
thanks you guys you always cheer me up whenever im depressed af appreciate yall so much!
Glad we can help you out! 🙏💚📼
I definitely remember this one at my mom and pop movie rental spot. Kimmy's house of video. They had this one in the horror section above that movie where it was a wall that would morph into a creepy face depending on angle. And the other movie you showed with that creepy doll, as well as Chucky. That section would pull me in every time. Good times. Haven't seen this one in a long time gonna need to revisit it. Have a great week dumpster dwellers yet another great one in the bag.
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
You guys need to cover Society (1989). Loving the episode by the way!
It's on the list! and thank you!
Great episode. Love your quality dudes. Keep it up
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
Joes reaction of seeing this for the first time was my reaction when I finally saw return of the living dead and night of the demons
It’s a great feeling!
This movie is the reason why I hate porcelain dolls to this day!
So I just saw this movie last night for the first time... Wow! I really enjoyed this movie... and I usually don't like doll movies (I'm a little bit like Connor in that regard)
Thanks for another awesome movie recommendation guys!
ALSO, add this to the MDU:
Years later after the old couple passed away, Oswell Spencer bought that mansion and built the Umbrella lab underneath it :P
That’s now cannon 😂 thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
Well, I am off every friday through the rest of the year, sounds like I need to queue this up to watch!! love y'all, keep up the good work as always :)
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
Looks fun. I remember the poster and VHS cover in my video store. I gotta see if I can get the Blu Ray.
Another movie on the watchlist!
Stuart Gordon did not direct Honey I Shrunk the kids. Joe Johnston did (Jumanji, Mcu:s Captain America, started as an fxartist on the old Star Wars movies). But Stuart wrote the script. Stuart directed Space Truckers, watch that one! Saw it on TV as a kid. What a blast! Dennis Hopper plays the main character. Btw, nice video guys.
Yep, he wrote it! Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
I absolutely adore this movie. This is id say my favorite "Killer Dollls" movie. Dolly Dearest isnt the beat example. But its got ots charms. The first two Childs Play movies id say are the best of the whole series aside from Curse of Chucky.
That Scream Factory blu-ray is out of print, however Dolls was just re-released on disc in the amazing Empire of Screams boxset from Arrow Video that includes 5 titles from Empire Pictures. That boxset is highly recommended for fans of these kind of movies.
I have the box set too, but that’s now out of print haha. -Joe
@@MovieDumpster ah yes the limited edition sold out quick! A standard version without the posters/cards/etc. is coming out this month though!
Oh that’s great!
I hope that you guys make it to Head of the Family
Probably eventually! There are a lot of Fullmoon titles we’d like to do first.
Joe’s impersonation of Hillary is fuckin hilarious. 😂😂😂😂 That shit had me crying laughing 🤣
😂 thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
New, Improved, Bobble Head Sean
Hey, long time no hear. Nice to listen to you guys again.
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
I had this on in the background and confused MDU stuff with the actual movie. I thought, "he asked for more ketchup and got struck by lightning?!"
Sadly it was only MDU
Also, I want a t shirt of that
One of my favorite things about your guys' show is the time you take to talk about the cast and crew of the movie, especially the sfx peeps. Love it!
Also can anyone help me figure out a vhs cover that scared the crap out of me as a kid?? It had like a greenish blue background and there were a bunch of pictures of demon people on it (pointy teeth, creepy eyes think the movie "demons") and one of the pictures has a demon hand reaching for a birthday cake. Please help!! It lives in the recesses of my mind.
Love you guys!!
The birthday cake immediately makes me think of It Lives Again. Is that it?
@@MovieDumpster sadly no 😞 the birthday cake was round and there was a long nailed hand reaching toward it. But thanks so much for trying!! I've been hoping to stumble across it since I got into retro horror but nothing yet. Someday it will happen, and it will be glorious.
Oh oh it is Demons 2 then ☺️ -Joe
@@MovieDumpster closer but still no. Tge demon design in the one I'm remembering is very "Demons-esque" so maybe it was an alternate vhs cover or something as it was a montage kind of cover. Thank you again for trying! Man, Demons still scares the crap out of me. The makeup design is horrifying. Just seeing the vhs cover for Demons 2 might make me need the lights on tonight haha
I can’t post a pic, but here’s a link to the Demons 2 artwork I’m talking about, haha. It’s the VHS cover. images.app.goo.gl/x3q1PzzaHUem3Ybh8
Five Doll$ @ Freddie's
Need to do a review on a Movie called the Way of the Gun trust me you will not regret it! Plus it’s got probably the best opening to a movie!
I put this on or the Original The Fog to help me sleep 😊
Guess now I know what I'll be watching later
I showed my daughter the intro of the Home Alone 2 review. She laughed her ass off at the skit 😂 thanks for making her laugh and smile. You both work your ass off and i appreciate your trashy content 💚
Acts 2:38
🤣 we’re glad she enjoyed it! Thanks for your support! 🙏💚📼
8:19 - Didn't Joe Johnston direct Honey, I Shrunk the Kids?
Stuart Gordon wrote the story with Brian Yuzna.
This is a creepy, quirky, gothic little movie. The porcelain dolls freak me out. xx
Do you guys have anymore of those tee shirts available that Shaun is wearing? That shirt is soo cool with the ghoulies and the gate creatures on it soo cool.
We are all sold out of the screen printed ones, but we might make them available in the store soon along with the stickers!
They are from our live event we did at the Colonial Theatre!
@@MovieDumpster Please make them available dude i definitely need one to add to my horror tee shirt collection.
Troll 2 was the perfect movie made or i mean it was a movie made 😮
Stuart Gordon!!! UW-Madison graduate!!
YO MOVIE DUMPSTER! Did either of you ever get to see Charles Band's Full Moon Horror Road Show?? I went in 2006 & 2008.. The second time I went, I brought my friend and during one of the skits, a woman ripped off her top to expose her Double-D's and as it happend Charlie had the mic and repeatedly kept yelling "DOUBLE-D's!!!" My friend and I thought it was so funny that when we got home we named a court in NBA Street Vol. 2 the "Double-D Court". The venue at the time was being converted from a bowling alley to a larger bar (??..dumb idea) & went through multiple owners until it ironically became Silk Exotic. I saw boobs under that roof BEFORE it was a stripclub.
R.I.P. Hare's Towne Bowl
... and Stuart Gordon.
I did! I feel like I just had told the story on our last live show! -Joe
1:10:55 - That looks like Jeffrey Jones.
I can see it. 😂 -Sean
@@MovieDumpster Yet it's somehow less creepy!
Gonna watch the movie sober. Too drunk after Saint Patron's day.
Does anybody know if this movie has ever been released in widescreen? If so, what format, and when? Edit: I saw that they said that it was released on bluray but I couldn't find anything on amazon except for it on prime video (the amazon streaming service). Is it out of print?
Scream Factory and Arrow Video both did blu ray releases but they are both out of print. Arrow’s came in a set with other Empire movies, and You can find the Scream Factory one used a decent price!
You can also grab the Arrow Empire set for a great price at Diabolik DVD! diabolikdvd.com/product/enter-the-video-store-empire-of-screams-le-arrow-us-blu-ray-preorder/
👍
I love to find a shop call valuable old shit
Robot Jox, man, that film is awesome, still the best mech film ever made, beats trash like Transformers and Pacific Rimjob.
This is my first time seeing your show. It’s never appeared on my recommended list-which is weird, because I’m a huge fan of horrifically awful movies that you just love in spite of themselves.
So imagine my consternation when, in the first 3 minutes into an hour and twenty, you use “cacophony” to mean…
Actually, I’m not sure how you meant it. The word means lots of loud noises. Here, a definition I found online: “a harsh discordant mixture of sounds”
You were talking about people. I was confused. (My day job is as a proofreader/editor for a novelist. This stuff comes naturally. Forgive.)
I meant to say cornucopia. Sometimes we record super late, and this was one of those times. Tired + brain fog = stupid mouth. Thanks for watching and we're glad to hear we made it to your feed! Appreciate you checking us out! -Joe🙏💚📼
My scariest movie cover in the video shop was Kindred. I only saw the movie the first time a few years ago. Not very scary at all! 😂😂😂
The Kindred is awesome! We did a review on it.
@@MovieDumpster Ooooh! I started it but still to finish it. I managed to get an ex rental VHS of Kindred but the the tape was all messed up. Got the big box case and the cover that scared me so much. Will need to find another tape.
The guy on the right, what is his T- Shirt?
That’s Joe, and it’s a Faces of Death shirt from Pallbearer Press!
84 till 92 ...approximately
What?
Empire International Pictures
founded in 1983 - defunct in 1988
but robot jox is from 1989
and this movie Spellcaster from 1992 was the last

Do you guys know the girl Isabella is played by the girl from Ah-ha's "Take on Me" video?
A few people mentioned this! Wild!
just when i began to lose the idea of how bad ass horror games can be in general
i come to play PSX - Castlevania X Chronicles which i never heard of, man i started
playing that game for hours, and yes i own and have always been playing Castlevania
games to this day, and when i got the stage called "Tower of Dolls" it immediately
came flooding back into my sub concius mind where i began remembering.... Dolls
the 1986 horror movie, and yes it definitely brought back those memories in time.
i began talking about it, like definitely "those killers dolls remind of that horror movie"
man it scared the hell out of me even as a kid, i will never forget how dirty they did that
dirty blonde girl, and how they killed her friend with marching nutcracker soldiers
and how they SAW the feet rosemarie that was brutal, and to think Dracula has these
dolls for reasons, if you can't handle one doll as a human, how about a thousand?
as they are EXTREME HARD as you climb the steps to finishing the stage.
and what bad ass way to go an end a stage, is not only having dolls as the main
trigger hard mode in it, but to have you face yourself at the end, that was pure master
piece of gameplay! i loved it!
