      You mean creating different standards for people based on their race is unfair? You dont say...lol. What do you think DEI does when asian students need to score hundreds of points better on the SAT to have the same statistical chance of being accepted? The lack of awareness is astounding and hilarious, almost as funny as people crying about not being able to discriminate based on race anymore.

    Thank you for showing that when “diverse” or “urban” people fight for civil rights, it’s for EVERYONE, including predominantly white farm kids.

    Equity is the key word Lewis, and no its not a good thing. Equity means you have two comedians, one sucks and one is good. But you must give them the same money for their performance because otherwise there is no equity.

    My problem with DEI is it doesn’t include Jewish People. DEI doesn’t identify Jewish people as a disenfranchised minority, and after all of these encampments, it’s clear that it’s desperately needed

      You would need to make the case for "disenfranchised" (particularly given the literal meaning of that word and how it applies very specifically to Black Americans), but "minority" or "marginalized group" would be a straightforward rationale.

    People afraid of DEI are simply cowards at heart. They listen to the rants of others who tell them to fear it and loathe it and they use that to justify the fear and loathing they held all along.

      @mikekane2492 I think the diversity training I've had was always with larger companies and we had/have diverse workforces, international employees and customers, a presence in over 100 countries. Most Americans don't travel abroad much or learn much of American history, let alone world history, so the best way to gain some understanding starts with just talking with one another. If you take the time to break bread or listen to music with people that don't look or dress or pray like you, often one finds out they share the important things, values, goals, love of family.

      @@spacemanx9595 So you're admitting to arriving at a conclusion before seeing any data. I remain skeptical of claims in either direction without data, and if were truly concerned about it I would make an effort to find that data myself. But that's just my opinion.

    X to doubt on dei working for veterans. Veterans have a whole separate pipeline and get preferential treatment:

      Not all vets are treated that way, though. Look up the story of the 90 year old veteran who was working at a grocery store collecting the shopping carts because his social security was less than his expenses and management where he worked apparently never bothered to offer him a more appropriate job for someone his age and status. He's certainly not the only one. There are plenty of stories of veterans living in their cars.

    On the one hand, THIS DEI is important and positive. Unfortunately there are other uses of “DEI” have very different takes and tactics to their title.

    Nothing stops any school from considering socio-economic status even without official DEI offices. And troops were getting into college well before modern DEI programs. This email is barely connected to reality at all. Sorry you cant discriminate the way you want to anymore. Maybe if you cry more that will help...lol

      @@torinju The person that wrote the email is certainly crying and in my post I made clear I am referencing the email. I am laughing at them. No anger, just amusement that people are so bent out of shape because they cant overtly discriminate anymore.
      When for example asian students need to score several hundred points better on the SAT to have the same statistical chance of getting into a school there is in fact discrimination happening whether the writer of this email wants to admit to it or not.

      @@billbradley4878 While statistically Asian student have to score higher (not several hundred points, more like around 140), there is no admissions policy of requiring Asians to have higher scores. Feel free to point me to some official policy if there is one. The disparity is due to various factors, including a preference given to legacy students, athletes and students from underrepresented geographical regions, who tend to not be Asian.
      Should that be fixed, sure, but its not DEI policies causing the disparities.
