  • Quick demo of the seldom seen Dean Markley Overlord Classic Overdrive from the 90's. This pedal is along the lines of the more popular (then and now) BK Butler Tube Driver. Like the Tube Driver, this pedal includes a "tuned" 12AX7 tube. I've got a couple of the BK's, an older black and yellow one and his newer version and it's pretty clear the Overlord is a clone. I believe BK Butler worked for Dean Markley back in the day, so you can draw your own conclusions on that. Since Billy Gibbons and David Gilmour were using the Tube Driver, I'm going to guess this was marketed for the metalheads, given the Olde English type face they used. As beat up as it is, this is a decent sounding pedal, especially if you're into raspy loose Big Muff style distortion.
It's just a quick demo today, but should be enough to give you an idea of what it can cover. First 7 seconds of clean tone, then some soloing, riffing and little bit of sustain.
In their words (please keep in mind, this was the 90's): Yeah it's a little ugly, but it sure can cook. Maybe you don't need a better amp, you just need a better overdrive. The sound of Hendrix, Van Halen and Clapton.
This is merely a first impressions video - more to follow if there's any interest.
This demo was made with a 1999 '57 American Vintage Reissue Fender Strat with a DiMarzio Tone Zone S bridge pickup, 9-46 Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky's plugged into a Marshall DSL15C. Nothing special mic wise, just an iPhone 12 Pro on a tripod.

I bought this pedal in the Mid 90’s in a bargain bin, excellent pedal that gave me most old school overdrive/Plexi/fuzz tones. There are old ads on the internet for it.

Right on! I agree. It's one I never see in shops or on pedal boards anymore.

Amazing pedal for bass guitar. I play in a sludge metal band and I need some heavy fucking distortion. I borrowed and tried a bunch of drive and fuzz pedals to find the right one and this one came on top, paired with a Big Muff! I am about to order one on Reverb.

Great to hear that! Makes sense, given how I've used it with my detuned guitars. Let me know if you post a vid with your rig tones, would like to hear it.
