i find it interesting how back in the day Coney Island was THE place to be! yes thats waaay before my time but I knew how it was like the "Disney World" of the early to early-mid 1900s. now you barely hear anyone mention Coney Island.

girlstorm09 That’s because most of the big great beautiful parks were lost to fires , Trumps father /baseball stadium , apartments , and the fucking city controlling and limiting amusements

parks closed due to the depression

Times changed, families prospered and moved to the suburbs, air conditioning came along, and personal automobile ownership increased allowing travel to other resort options.
Steeplechase Park closed by decision of the Tilyou family at the end of the 1964 season because of increased crime due to gang activity in the area. Fred Trump purchased the property, but had the Pavilion of Fun razed in 1966 before the city could declare it a landmark. The last bit of Luna Park was destroyed by fire decades earlier in 1944. Massive public housing towers didn't help improve the general tone of the neighborhood. Ultimately, Coney declined because times, values, demographics, and tastes in entertainment changed.

yea its a shame times do change....at least we still have amusement parks though. it will be sad day when even parks like Cedar Point or Great Adventure become "outdated" they will say why wait in hot sweaty long lines when you can just use your VR headset!! thing is VR coasters SUCK compare to the real thing!! nothing can beat the real deal!

the POV shot is on the Thunderbolt (you can see the house underneath it) which is very rare footage...

There why does the side of the ride say "CYCLONE" at 2:02 ? This is before the entire brake run was closed in. The "house" is actually the station.

The other roller coaster is the Big Dipper, renamed the Comet which lasted until the 40s or 50s. Now it's the Aquarium parking lot

Has to be the early 1940's not '50s because Luna Park and the Wildcat roller coaster are still there. Luna burned in 1944 and the Wildcat was demolished in 1945. Probably 1942 or so.

The cyclone is still one of the greatest wooden roller coasters I've ever ridden.

It's a different first drop than the Santa Cruz Giant Dipper, and the Cyclone is 10 feet higher
