- What Life Was Like In 1950s In NEW YORK
New York has to be one of the most well-known cities in the world. This dynamic metropolis, known as the 'Big Apple,' is famed for it's luxury boutiques, spectacular Broadway musicals, and high-flying corporate tycoons, and it has long fascinated tourists from all over the world. New York has become known for its skyscrapers, prominent areas, and never-ending activity. The Big Apple has a lot to offer, from baseball and pizza to Times Square and yellow cabs. Among the metropolitan boroughs, New York is also known for it's natural beauty, particularly the Thousand Island and Finger Lakes districts. Apart from the flashing lights, it's also home to the iconic Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom and hope, as well as Central Park, one of the world's cleanest and best-kept parks. So, clearly, New York is more than simply a hotspot for celebrities. Now, let's take a deeper look at what has made New York one of the world's most recognized cities. Let me have this opportunity to bring you back in 1950s in New York.

Real America died in the 1960s, I wstch these old films and feel at home... the modern world feels like a foreign country. I am nostalgic for a time I never got to experience... I would love to go back there... I would love to be able to recreate it for my children, but I am afraid it's lost forever.
I was a child living on Long Island then. My dad had a small business on White Plains Road in the Bronx and occasionally he would take me with him on a Saturday. I would stand by the front door watching subway trains go by on the overhead trestle. I remember that traffic signals had no yellow lights back then. Instead, the red light would come on for a few seconds while the green light was still showing. Then the green light would go out and traffic would stop. I also remember eating at the Automats with their coin-operated windows behind which were the food items.
I GREW IN NY, IN THE 50's..In the bronx, how I wish I can go back, best years of my life.
I was born in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx in the 50s, went to parochial elementary school, prep school in Westchester. It was an easy time, safe no crime, friendly Irish, Jewish & Italian immigrants. All hard workers… times have changed.
I remember huddled around the stove watching the Today Show with Dave Garaway before school on cold winter mornings in our cold wood heated house (the fire goes out over nite ) and seeing the ny people outside the studio window. Those were simple times so long ago
The 40 and 50 were an awesome time period for America. Booming on all frontiers tapping OUT in 1989..the beginning of the end.. Dead and lost as we speak.
What happened in 1989?

All American cities and life used to be great. People had money and success. Things were cheap, same pay as today and now 90 percent of people here are homeless without jobs.
