Everything Voiceplay does is Gold (see what I did there?) and I love it all. This will be my favorite for a very, very long time. That ending was so sweet and so romantic!
You should know by now that Geoff or Layne do most of the arrangements. Layne did this one but Geoff added extra lyrics. The toy maker is nonother than Geoffs' wife Kathy. The way he looks at her just makes my heart melt.
Geoff said in an interview before that the way he arranges (and I would assume Layne does the same) is to arrange for the voices you have. Eg use everyone's strengths and utilise guest singers who perfectly suit the song. These guys know what they are doing. That's why other groups like Home Free have called on Geoff and Layne to help them with arrangements before.
I love this cover, and your reaction was absolutely a delight! Of course she had to get one of them...and it was only ever gonna be Geoff.....that lovely lady is Kathy Castellucci, Geoff's wife. You can see the love they have for each other...it just hits you in the feels. I think of all the reactions I've watched to this video, I like yours the best!
Thanks, Darnell. Your reaction made me smile. I tried to show this to my son on his phone... he didn't stick it out. "That's not my kind of music, Mom." But his 16 year old daughter knew the song. Guess he's getting all old now. But I know I resisted country music for so long because that was "my Dad's" music. That "lady" picked Geoff long ago. It's his wife, Kathy. She's awesome.
Funny how as you get older you start loving the music you blew off before. Every time Voiceplay releases a cover I end up going back to the originals, and appreciating them more. My kid turned me on to Nightwish, I turned him on to Voiceplay. My musical world has expanded more in the last 10 years than in the first 55.
Geoff has said about arranging, and I'm paraphrasing: You make the arrangement for the voices you know you have, not the arrangement first and then adapt the voices to it.
This was such a beautiful arrangement. Kathy is being the toy maker and creating her perfect man which is Geoff of course. One commentor suggested that she’s Geppetto’s descendent, and there is a Pinocchio sitting in the window sill. They love all those funny little details. Speaking of details, Geoff wrote the bridge that starts with Cesar singing about building rooms in his heart and I believe it ends with that absolutely gorgeous chord with the five of them singing “shine”. Geoff and Kathy worked at Universal Studios for over 10 years as the Frankenstein monster 🧟♂️ and his bride. So it’s not the first time that Geoff has been created - although this time he turned out a little better! 😂 I can’t remember if you have already reacted to my mother told me, used in the assassin’s creed game as well as for the move TV show the Vikings. You might want to check that one out soon as they are going to be releasing their newest soon and it is also Viking based.
