God, how I miss this man. No one will ever fill his shoes. It really burns me up when Johnny Cash comes out as number one on the list of greatest country singers of all time. Its not even close. JC would have been the first to make that admission. RIP George, your music speaks measures and should shut the mouths of anyone who places you anywhere other than number one and the GREATEST male country singer of all time!! Period!

This was really sad to watch. The possum must've been in a lot of pain that night. He sounded like he was struggling to catch his breath to sing. He's in a better place now though. I'm glad for all the many wonderful years he was on this earth, and for the music he made. GOD BLESS GEORGE JONES!

He sang the songs we lived & loved right up to the end...somewhere, honky tonk or wherever. We will miss him. I think hes about the greatest country singer. Got to see No Show Jones 1 time...he was late but showed up & sang a long time. God bless him. This was when country music was real country music... We got lucky as fans. He sang the most beautiful gospel song with Vestal Goodman...

Thanks for the comment. I too have seen George a handful of times and even met him once - had him sign a beautiful all-white Gibson. A real treasure. I was lucky enough to get Merle Haggard to sign it as well. But yes, it was tough hearing George have such a tough time trying to overcome the respiratory illness that was robbing him of vocal strength. No matter, he is still the Legend to me....and to you too I imagine.

He died sober, and he died the GOAT. Long live the Possum. As he sang, "How beautiful heaven must be..." Well now he knows. 😊

As sick as he was then, No Breath and weak, He still could sing circles around these new day, New York style, All about the money, nothing about true Country, it's gotta come from heart and soul, Not a classroom, and books, someone teaching you how to talk Country Style, it can't be taught, either got it or not, Man does it show, How SAD to realize that Alan Jackson and George Strait, NAILED IT !!!
With Murder was committed on Music Row, I never thought that Country Music would nose dive to where it's at now.

I love George Jones almost as much as I love BREATHING... I've seen him in concert so many times, met the man himself quite a few times... I don't even have words for how much his music has meant to me... BUT, it is so hard for me to watch George struggle to breath the way he does now... he is almost reduced to a whisper. I feel so bad. His voice has always effortlessly carried him through nearly anything the world threw at him... I wish they could turn back time for George. He is the BEST.

George lived not to far from me and bumped into him every so often. We are now almost out of REAL COUNTRY pioneers. Every time one passes away I become more aware just how much time has passed since I was a kid hearing "Step right up,come on in" back in 70's. Things were soooo different than they are now. I am lost and wandering. Very difficult to deal with.

George Jones recalled that when he heard about the passing of Hank Williams in 1953 that he "lay there and bawled" like a baby. It's fair to say that many of us probably did the same thing when the sad news of George's own passing hit. I've seen him in concert about a half dozen times, mostly in the 1980s & 1990s. And even though watching this video is sad (knowing that it is one of his last ones), you can't help but love the man all the more for giving it everything he had, right until the end.

This is so sad to see George do this concert as he's not well. But being a true performer, that loves to sing to the people and this is where George is at his happiest and content on stage. As much as it was upsetting to see,I had to watch George perform one last time. And 5 months later George had passed away. What a legend giving his fans one more amazing concert of the best country singer there will ever be.George, you were the best.

Never got to meet him, I got to see one of his last shows in Evansville Indiana in 2012, and even got his stage-used set list. RIP George Jones
