I have a semi automatic shift on my motorcycle, + - buttons on the handlebars. It took some getting used to but its not that bad. Personally I wouldn't want a fully automatic motorcycle as I think there are too many variables for it to compute at once. I also want to know what to expect when cornering and that automatic could decide to pop down a gear midturn and give you "a F'ed up day!"
I feel like unless you own and ride the first motorcycle ever invented from 1885, you cannot look down on anyone who opts for certain technological advances on their motorcycle. Since their invention, motorcycles have always been evolving. It's crazy to me that people consider a MT09 a real bike even though it comes standard with a quickshifter, cruise control, rider modes, a 6 axis IMU, and so on. But consider a Honda CBR650R with an e-clutch a scooter because you don't have to ever touch the clutch lever. Yet it has no rider modes, no 6 axis IMU, no cruise control, and so on. It all just sounds like gatekeeping and hypocrisy to me. Any bike you buy today has far more technological advances on it than a bike from 1950, and we don't consider them "souless" because they don't require a kickstarter to start them.
CycleCruza, always on the cutting edge of content and discussion 🤘Automatic motorcycles are a game-changer for new riders or those looking for a smoother urban commute. But part of the thrill of riding is mastering clutch control and shifting gears-it connects you to the bike! Like you said bro 😎 That said, it’s all about what fits your riding style and needs. What’s your take-convenience or control?
The E clutch from honda is a game changer IMO!! You basically have a normal motorcycle with cluthcless quickshifts up and down and you don't need to hold in the clutch at a stop/start. Nothing but pros
@@markosusac7608 autoblipping is for downshifting without using clutch lever. You can do it manually on any bike. But only bikes with electronic throttle can do it automatically, using sensors by shifter. Honda 650 cant do this due to having cable throttle
Honda e-clutch is exactly what you mentioned. You have fully manual mode with traditional shifting gears (clutch & shifter) and fully automatic in which the shifting is done for you, but this is not DCT like in Goldwing. Make a ride on CBR 650 E-clutch. This solution is way better than what Yamaha came with because Yamaha is automatic gear shifting or shifting with a button. In the Honda, you have a real clutch and you can shift manually as much as you want but as soon as you go into the city, you can switch to automatic mode to chill out. Honda nailed it.
There really isn't that many extra parts for the Y-AMT, it is pretty simple tech but I get what you are saying. However, they are trying to find a way to get more people riding. This new generation are scared of manual transmissions. lol
@@CycleCruza I think you forgot to notice that Honda, Kawasaki and others have done all that they can do to attract young Riders, with Groms and Kawasaki's equivalent. Many brands offer 300 CC single cylinder bikes that have low seat heights and are easy to ride. Honda has sold over 300 Million 90 CC to 125 CC Cubs that don't have a manual clutch. Maybe out Government run Public Education should step up their Education system. IN Germany they take driving serious. They have a very comprehensive Driver Education Program for both 4 wheelers and 2 wheelers. They actually teach people about common courteousy to fellow drivers. "The Opposite of Roade Rage" Like we have here in the USA.
It's not for everyone but there is a place for it. It is good on slower cruiser bikes for older folks who just want to go on long rides. It may also be good for commuting to work in traffic. But not for everyone because it's one more thing that can break and be expensive to fix, adds weight to the motorcycle (probably) and takes a lot of the fun away and the skill needed.
Not a fan of full AT BUT Honda’s new e-Clutch is so awesome. Still get to switch gears but don’t have to worry about ever stalling but then you can fully turn it off and go old school when you want!
I'm 62 and been riding for almost 50 years, I've owned 25 street and dirt bikes. After working 40 years as a blue collar worker my clutch hand doesn't work as good as it use to. I like the concept of the Honda E-clutch, if they would put it on a decent bike. Also Cruza my E-bike has gears to shift
Best motorcycle gearbox i ever had was a Harley-Davidson 3-speed Panhead. You could slow way down in 2nd, then really crank it on and just shift once into high. Very cool feeling. 😂
Personally i won't get automatic but i've seen rider without left leg or with prosthetic leg (due to their accident and still wanting to ride) rides their motorcycle with automatic transmission. I think that's pretty awesome. Automatic transmission gives them option to enjoy the ride.
You want a clutch it’s more engaging and visceral when you choose. However some models offer a quick shift feature allows you to change gears full on throttle without using clutch. Like paddles on a Ferrari. 🎉
I've owned a motor scooter before and while i didnt like the seating position, the automatic transmission was great. If you do a lot of city riding with lots of stop and go traffic having an automatic is great. I currently own an MT07 and while i don't mind shifting gears, i also don't care for it, if a bike is fun, its fun, manual or not. Manual transmissions will dissapear anyway when electric motorcycles eventually replace gasoline petrol motorcycles.
The perfect bike you described is the new cbr650r. You can turn the e clutch off and it has the foot shifter and clutch lever just like a regular motorcycle. Also even with the e clutch you still have to use the foot shifter. You just don't need to squeeze the clutch
i think its a great idea, this day and age everything is about simplicity. hell we even have cars that parks itself. the thought of riding a big bike like an MT09 on a twist and go sounds brilliant. maybe soon you can take a full bike licence without touching a manual. manuals in cars will eventually die out even in europe.
E clutch sounds good. Ill eventually have to own one anf a dct.. My Trk broke down yesterday. Engine was cutting out. Im sure ol reliable scooter still works. But now really probably wont ride much for who knows. Going to complicate process when i move even more now.
From what I've seen most riders love the new Honda E-Clutch. KTM just came out with a totally new AMT tech, it is void of actuators and is a true automatic with Park. It will be cool to see how they pans out.
I like shifting gears and I wouldn't buy an automatic, but there is also such a thing as shifting too much, which I realized when I had a RC390. Six gears from 0-70 constantly having to shift.
The only thing new about automatic bikes, from Yamaha, is that, they are in the game now. Honda has been the original innovator since the 1970's. Rest in peace Prince.
I've recently talked to a guy that had the new Africa Twin with e-clutch. Apparently it gave him a lot of trouble with the bike "coughing" around some tight mountainous twisties and he ended up trading it in for the manual version. That's of course only one data point. Maybe given time, as you said, they will get it dialed in, or just have an on/off switch for the automatic function. That would be enough for more of people.
Honda will have it perfected. KTM just came out with an automatic tech that is void of actuators called AMT. It looks to be the best automatic tech yet that could be much more reliable and smoother.
Advancements introduced for consumers by using the future of comfort riding. For it is obviously a marketing bait. Not much bad thing about it. It will just add up a buck for the maintenance and practicality of the motorcycle. The engine is much complicated when it comes to automatic finding it hard for some riders to wrench their own bike by that. Consumerism and marketing defines who will stay on the option for practicality and comfort
I have a problem when shifting is somehiw about ego and some kind if misguided measure of manhood or sophistication, because any fn fool can learn to shift, but a lot of smart folks in the city stop and go traffic prefer automatic because they are SMARTER..people who deliver food in a motorcycle prefer automatic for intellectual rational, so no your not a bigger man because you can move your foot up and down, lot of guys who ride manual bikes can't drive a stick shift to save their life, and that same person will act like they got something over a guy who rides a automatic bike, go ahead big boy, you cool, f outta here with the bike discrimination and all that nonsense, your not as cool as you think for people who act this way
I have no interest in one but as long as they don’t stop producing manuals then having options for people that want them is great-different strokes for different folks lol.
As a diabetic with hand and foot pain, the autos sound fine. Beats wearing two pairs of socks in the summer so I dont feel the shift lever with my toes. Some days are good, some days are bad, but as I get older it will probably get worse.
@@FatYokel They definitely don't need that unless they want to make their condition worse. There are so many people who completely eliminated Type 2 by eating this way. If they eat according to your recommendation they will not cure themselves and they will end up using more insulin. The condition is curable in most cases. Please do some research before commenting. Things have changed in the last 5-10 years. There is so much research showing that what you're recommending is making everything worse.
i think no bike should be auto. but if we must have them then they should only be for "beginner" motorcycles like 300-500cc . some people would benefit from learning to ride without thinking about shifting and then when they are ready they can put it in manual mode to shift to help them transition to a mid size bike like a 600-800cc
I considered getting a Honda ctx700dct, but honda went drop the model out of the lineup. Too bad honda didn't put the dct on their smaller bikes, its honda's patent design, I think it would be a seller and get more people into riding.
Had a 2023 klr650S as my first bike. But my big size 18 feet prefer my replacement Africa Twin Adventure Sport ES with the DCT. Oh KTM has an AMT for 2025, likely its automatic will go to the 1290 SAS.
Autoshifting motorcycles are dangerous because the computer will downshift according to the load on the engine, which will could cause the rear wheel to break traction halfway around a corner or on a slippery uphill
From what I've seen some riders love it. KTM just came out with a totally new AMT system that is void of actuators. It is interesting, however, everybody will always their own preferences. I'm open to new tech as long as its reliable and the bike is fun.
Automatic seems fun to ride, but i would rather stick to maunal as it creates an experience, which i am sure you will not get in Automatic. Just like a moped, literally just turn on and go. Yeah, it's fun, but not as fun as a manual transmission would give. Thanks for sharing, Bossman!✌️🙏
Thanks for viewing! They need to make a fully automatic that can also be a fully manual with a clutch and foot pedal shifter, that way everybody is happy and brings in more riders. I'm cool with just a manual myself. Like I said shifting is half the fun of riding but if you can have both that would be awesome.
I wonder how much it's going to cost to fix those things when they go out? 😭... If you can't shift gears & hold your balance on a motorcycle, you probably SHOULDN'T be riding... I just fixed my clutch handle on my 2019 CB500X & it feels so good, now I love shifting gears ⚙️⚙️ Honda & Yamaha both make badass bikes Yamaha is more performance orientated & Honda is more cruiser & relaxed bikes. Top notch quality on both IMHO
tech and options is all well and good. but, I'd rather see options with no options (if that makes sense!) - rather not pay for shiz I'll never use. I'll stick with me mt07 for as long as possible...
Having switched to a maxi scooter, I see no need to shift in daily riding. I just want to ride and it let's you do just that. Do I miss shifting, no. I have tried dtc and quick shifters and they are fine.
I love my 21 zx6r, and I would never purchase an automatic motorcycle. Maybe they will be entry-level bikes that let ppl practice riding without shifting??? I don't see these bikes selling a ton.
I'll pass on an automatic motorcycle, like I'll pass on owning any automatic car. Can't imagine driving or riding without shifting gears. Like it's a dying art of shifting through gears in new cars and motorcycles.
Yeah but you can still shift on the new MT-09 Y-AMT, it has paddle shifters. I don;t know how that will compare but at least you can shift. With the Honda E-Clutch, you can chose to use the clutch or not at all, semi-automatic is kind of cool. I'd love to see them make automatic that you can switch to fully manual with a clutch and regular foot shifter. That way, everybody is happy and brings in much more riders.
With the quick shifters on the bikes. Its almost there i only use the clutch on take off and wheelies. I dont think an automatic would do it for me i want to drop 2 gears at will. But i haven't riden one yet.
I feel the same way but I'm open to trying new tech and see how I like it. KTM just came out with an automatic called AMT that is void of actuators, you can wheelie with ease as well.
When did street bikes become so lame? I was away from street for the last 20 years and started looking into them again due to my 20 year old daughter buying a 2006 Honda CBR600RR. I’m very disappointed to see how new bikes have turned into a dang video game with all the electronics and rider assist crap. Nothing is simple, affordable or easy to service at home anymore.
No, I wouldn't get a motorcycle with an automatic transmission. Who cares about new riders. If they haven't started riding motorcycle by now I don't recommend them to start.
I used to feel the same way but they are making automatics better, blending the best of both worlds will be great to bring in more riders. Even grandmas can ride them. 😂
One problem with automatics is that when they break (not if, but when) they will cost a fortune to fix. Manual trans. are essentially bullet proof. Clutch will last forever. Just monitor the fluid level. Also, automatics might be good in Cleveland because there's no hills or twisties, so you don't need to shift gears much. (boring IMO).
The MT-09 Y-AMT just has actuators that do the clutch and shifting for you, pretty simple tech. I doubt they will fail much and if they do I doubt it will be that expensive to repair but you have a point. Yeah Cleveland doesn't have much twisties but SE Ohio has some sick hills and twisties. I rode OH-555 a few times and did a video on it in the past. However, those SE Ohio country roads can be a bit dangerous with horse crap and gravel at the apex of some corners. I've come to realize that these roads are better for cruising.
I used to feel the same way but after riding the Sur Ron X I realized an automatic can be fun too. If they can come up with a system that has a fully automatic and fully manual with a clutch and foot shifter that would be great and will bring in more riders.
These Honda’s are not automatic, they’re auto clutch, similar to what modern supercars have been doing for years. There even different from those and better because they still have the ability to go fully manual.
damn cruza, you hate ktm so much now you didnt even see they released a the new 6speed AMT, automatic manual with park lol.... or maybe you did and just didnt mention it. ktm is actually releasing 13 new bikes... and tons of new tech, new screens, bunch of stuff including 390sm, 390 adv, 390enduro, 990duke R. ktm has actually already released a AMT wheelie video on ig, demonstrating your concern, it still wheelies.
I don't hate KTM at all. I'm just disappointed with some things but I hope they improve and get better like I said in the last video I did about KTM. Thank you for letting me know about the new KTM AMT transmission. That sounds even better! I wish I would have included that in this video. I'm about to go and check out that video. Thanks for sharing! PS. That video came out before I filmed this video!
@@CycleCruza yup ktm teased 13 new bikes, announced the names/sizes but not much info, more info is releasing 1 item every 5 days or so, until EICMA 2024 where everything new will be on display to public in November info on amt 6 speed, and 10" TFT screens are out, no tech info on the new bikes yet.
Dude you need to get off RUclips , your making us older folk look bad talking trash about the younger generation. You call them soft for riding a automatic but you admit a automatic is better.

That's why I love my automatic scoots, it does us older riders good. at my age a nice small automatic motorcycle would work just fine for me.
Options are always good.
its not the right option
I never knew how to ride a motorcycle until the MSF course. Passed and been riding my r3 for 8 months. Shifting is fun now.

I’m really looking forward to owning an automatic motorcycle.
The E clutch from honda is a game changer IMO!! You basically have a normal motorcycle with cluthcless quickshifts up and down and you don't need to hold in the clutch at a stop/start. Nothing but pros
Doesn't autoblip yet, eclutch only on cable throttle bikes atm.
@@connor3288It will autoblip automatically even when accelerating and shift up without any throttle...
Just last week I traded in my 2009 Harley Davidson Road King Classic for a 2021 Honda Goldwing DCT… I absolutely love it 💯
What is the point of an automatic motorcycle, half the fun is changing gears
More cost, more weight, and more complicated to repair. If people like them and want to pay extra for them, then make them an available option.
Still get to switch gears but don’t have to worry about ever stalling but then you can fully turn it off and go old school when you want!
manuals seem to be better right up until you have to deal with stop and go rush hour traffic lol
I never knew that. I always learn about a new bike from you all. Thanks for sharing.
@@CycleCruza
The 3-speed Harley gearbox typically also had reverse gear for sidecar use, but you could order a straight 3-speed without reverse.
My first car was a manual transmission. Automatic motorcycles will def attract more riders. Imo, it has its own +/-
Personally i won't get automatic but i've seen rider without left leg or with prosthetic leg (due to their accident and still wanting to ride) rides their motorcycle with automatic transmission. I think that's pretty awesome. Automatic transmission gives them option to enjoy the ride.
You want a clutch it’s more engaging and visceral when you choose. However some models offer a quick shift feature allows you to change gears full on throttle without using clutch. Like paddles on a Ferrari. 🎉
I like the idea of fully automatic or clutchless transmissions. Just make it an option and people will choose whatever they like.
@@CycleCruza bmw doing it too. Someone else Aprilia maybe
CycleCruza, I think you should make a HOW TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE series.❤❤❤
I rode an automatic Pw80 when I was a kid.
What's the difference between automatic motorcycle and a scooter? Body styling?
Sometimes there is no choice if your shoe size is over size 11. Most bikes cant accomodate my size 14 boot.
@@CycleCruza to be honest though, KTM and reliability don't always mix well together.
We'll see, interesting technologies indeed.
@@TrickyNekro100% sure that your friend have AT with DCT not e-clutch, as 1st and only Honda bike you can buy with e-clutch is CB650R...
Hey Cruza I have a suzuki burgman 650cc and a BMWC650GT and I can hit 110 to115 mph all day and no problem to hit a wheeley. Try one you will see
Wow! I did not realize you can wheelie on a scooter. Cool!
I have a problem when shifting is somehiw about ego and some kind if misguided measure of manhood or sophistication, because any fn fool can learn to shift, but a lot of smart folks in the city stop and go traffic prefer automatic because they are SMARTER..people who deliver food in a motorcycle prefer automatic for intellectual rational, so no your not a bigger man because you can move your foot up and down, lot of guys who ride manual bikes can't drive a stick shift to save their life, and that same person will act like they got something over a guy who rides a automatic bike, go ahead big boy, you cool, f outta here with the bike discrimination and all that nonsense, your not as cool as you think for people who act this way
Its not that people are scared of shifting but they dont want to pay alot of money for something they struggle with to opperate.
Type 2?
@@TiredWings Have you considered carnivore way of eating to cure it?
Don't fall into the carnivore fad, diabetics especially need fibers and complex carbohydrates as part of a properly balanced diet etc.
@@FatYokel They definitely don't need that unless they want to make their condition worse.
I really enjoy shifting gears on a motorcycle. Automatic. I've never tried one. So. I'm not going to dismiss it.
i think no bike should be auto. but if we must have them then they should only be for "beginner" motorcycles like 300-500cc . some people would benefit from learning to ride without thinking about shifting and then when they are ready they can put it in manual mode to shift to help them transition to a mid size bike like a 600-800cc
Even my mt09 quick shifter collects dust
I considered getting a Honda ctx700dct, but honda went drop the model out of the lineup. Too bad honda didn't put the dct on their smaller bikes, its honda's patent design, I think it would be a seller and get more people into riding.
Had a 2023 klr650S as my first bike. But my big size 18 feet prefer my replacement Africa Twin Adventure Sport ES with the DCT. Oh KTM has an AMT for 2025, likely its automatic will go to the 1290 SAS.
I ride without fingers on my right hand and have abapted well over the years, but yea, auto bikes have come a long way
It's good but you can't rev it and pop some grunts and bangs since there's no clutch😥
Autoshifting motorcycles are dangerous because the computer will downshift according to the load on the engine, which will could cause the rear wheel to break traction halfway around a corner or on a slippery uphill
They killing the essence the life the fun of the motorcycle with the electric and automatic crap 😂😂
I love my BV 400, it really is a Cadillac, but I also love my Triumph Speed 400.
CC....you always promote wearing gear. What does CC wear for boots?
What's the Cycle Cruza communities thoughts on Can Am Rykers and Spiders?
I love my 21 zx6r, and I would never purchase an automatic motorcycle. Maybe they will be entry-level bikes that let ppl practice riding without shifting??? I don't see these bikes selling a ton.
These won't be available in the US though, only Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
Shifting is fun, clutching is not. Especially with carpal tunnel on a low CC bike...
Not for me. I love having a manual. Too bad you can't even get a manual car anymore.
6:47 man I’m just not tryna fuck up and crash or stall
No, I wouldn't get a motorcycle with an automatic transmission. Who cares about new riders. If they haven't started riding motorcycle by now I don't recommend them to start.
Back in the day you once said NO DUCATI AND I HATE CRUSERS ? So you buy a Ducati HMM was that you or someone impersonatet ing you?
don't want one
I have no interest in an automatic motorcycle.
@@CycleCruza can you wear body armor underneath the airbag vest?
