Born and raised in Etna, PA he used the values and work ethic from his Croatian parents to forge a path to success in the NFL. After his career ended, he faced a crossroad of what to do next. It was a chance and surprising encounter at Sunday mass with his college football coach, Joe Paterno, that led him to his legendary career in television. First working as a sportscaster for CBS 8 San Diego before becoming sports director at NBC San Diego.

Hi Jim!!! ‘Wonderful to see your smiling face! A LOT of years have passed since Etna Days- We we’re truly blessed to have grown up in such a nurturing town- Great People, Great Values, It sure stuck- we had to be good/ or else! My Grandfather worked in the same mill- 7 days a week , 12 hr. Shifts. Anyway, my Mother never missed one of your games, she followed you faithfully thru the Lions & Chargers! I ended up in Key West, Florida for the past 27 years. Am writing a book- “ Pittsburgher in Paradise!” Sadly, We Lost Michelle 2 years ago. Take Care, God Bless Us All!
