2 high safeties is the current meta defense but it will change as soon as teams start to run the ball well. Then teams will have to change their defensive scheme to defend the run and then that will be the meta. Offenses and defenses always evolve. No reason to force change.
They’ve been playing 2 high safeties since the 60’s and 70’s in the NFL y’all are out of your mind! These Quarterbacks simply don’t know where to go with the football ball when coverage gets cloudy. Most new era QB’s can’t consistently get through progressions as well. They also lack accuracy and anticipation. The lack of big plays down the field in the NFL Literally has nothing to do with defenses running different types of 2 high looks.

If you abolish 2 high safeties, then you are getting rid of an instrumental part of Cover 2 zone plays. I mean, sure there are some teams who have the personnel to play Cover 2 Man, but that is very few and far in between. In man to man coverage, your team gives up way too many completions, and the defensive backs have to rely on speed and knowledge of the receivers’s routes. They also must be very disciplined and make the correct judgement calls. Besides, if the offense is allowed to evolve their concepts into a pass happy league, then what is the issue with the defense evolving to try to catch up with the offense?

Way better idea: Allow CBs to be more physical with receivers in the secondary and soften PI rules. That way, DCs don’t have to sit in Cover 2 all the time and can play more coverages plus you’ll see more competitive plays between DBs and WRs. When you take away physically from the game it becomes 7on7.
