Thank you. The local mechanic just quoted me $300 for the switch plus labor. I watched your video and walked out to my son's car and plugged it back in and voila! Badass!!
You should point out that there is normally 2 Torx head screws holding the plastic cover onto the seat. One in the front, one at the back where the two seat sections meet. You'll have to push the leather out of the way to access the rear one.
THANK YOU!! That is EXACTLY what the problem was with my wife's 2003 e39 Driver's-Side seat! And sure enough, the connection had been able to come loose over time because the plastic locking mechanism had broken! THANKS AGAIN!!
my wires need to be reposted in the harness. its just a loose connection in the pins that fit inside the black connector piece. it affects several other seemingly unrelated things like for one i can think of is the steering wheel adjust wont work if the seat wont.
I was considering using some zip ties to tighten mine to the module, but there isn't even enough space between the plastic cover and it to get a zip tie behind it, so I guess I'm just gonna keep pushing it back in every now and then lol
Hey bimmer zeit, I️ have problem with my passenger seat.. any ways my plastic cover is broken like in the video and I️ looked at the plug to see if it was loose but it was was fully intact and my driver seat & wheel could operate fine except for the passenger. Could it be the motor being bad or my wiring ? My model is the 02 525i, p.s. I️ recently bought it a while ago and luckily the interior was in top shape, the owner told me the passenger didn’t work but a while later I️ read in the forums it was the plug that controlled both seats and wheel then I️ wiggled it and BOOM got the seat fixed. Any suggestions would help, thank you!
Hey Kevin it's hard to say without knowing the history of the car or seeing it, but if you had luck with the plug and harness then maybe do some careful inspections of the wiring and connections. Pop the plugs apart, put back together. Check for anything obvious. Next step I'd check the seat switches for power with an ohm meter. If those check out then move on to the seat motors themselves.
Christopher Sousa hey Chris check out realoem.com enter your model info and you can find the exact part for your car. Then search that number on eBay for a good used one as I’m sure new is big $
My bmw 323ci convertible has both seats sometimes working sometimes not. When it’s not moving seat (motor) makes noise. Seats goes up but NOT Down, goes forward but not back
bosancium bih the e46 seat design is different from the e39 shown here. You may have a bad switch or a bad motor, try testing the individual components resistance with a meter

When you e39 look like junk and you treat it that way do not be surprise to have those issues, which are NOT common.
Ask him for a refund, Mr Gratitude.
