Did the same thing on my E39, cut and adjusted all cables...the shrink wrap is a nice touch, I would have liked to have done that but until it messes up again (highly unlikely), its good for now. Very nice video and explanation, should help many E39 owners going forward.
Great advice and explanation. I was dreading the fix not knowing what was the issue until I watched your video. Out, repaired, and back installed in my 520i in 2hrs! Thanks Little tip if your seat is twisted and without power just connect your cordless drill chuck to the cable to even them out. 👍
Amazing video thanks for the clear instructions fixed my e38 driver seat twist easily! Even though it’s only been twisted for a day it killed my back, now I can sit comfortably driving my limo again
I've read about this fix before but this was awesome to actually see it done, thanks for posting. We have to get you into a heat gun so you can get rid of that grill lighter though : )
This is the best case scenario. The cable in question at least on the 2001 704's and similar year models will be the plastic cable with a long spring inside of it. After time these springs snap inside and you have to replace the entire cable.
Hi. Thanks! Good video. I need to do this, as the drivers seat is further back on the inside side, and it kills my back ! What I didn’t get from this video though is exactly which wires are connected to which kart of the seat, and how to know how much to take off of the outer to ensure that it’s straight once assembled.
thanks, good vid. very strange design from the start, maybe that's why they lost the war, anyway i used E6000 instead of the melt thing, never had the stuff fail and i've used it on a lot of different things, even dis-similar materials, like this. if it fails i'll let you know, won't be the first crow i've eaten
Crazy, I was just remembering my comment on your wagon, since we have had the same succession of cars. Then a couple days later my friend offered me his family's 2003 530i auto for a great deal
All well and good unless your seat height adjustment is broken, outside side of seat is all down and you cannot get clearance to the seatbelt bolt to take it out. This requires in-car repair which is much more tedious. Any suggestions? Great video.
I could not remove the bolt holding the seatbelt on the passenger side. There is no room for a socket, tried pliers and vice gripes just could not budge it. Would removing the seatbelt from the pillar be easier just time consuming. I hadn't noticed but the removal of the plastic casing for the seat controls is another issue. Any advice would be helpful. I am going to need a lot more patience as well. Trying to save some big buck, quoted $1500 for one seat by dealership. That is not going to happen.
So over time do the seat cables get stretched or the like and need retrimming? Excellent video, felt for you when you had to take them out again mind 😉
@@PracticalEnthusiast I would like to tell you in some way what the problem is with my seat. I think I detected another problem with the metal cable that runs inside. There is a way to communicate and be able to send you images of what I mention.

gave you a thumbs up the moment you discovered the second twist on the driver's seat--I feel you pain. great video!

Ahhhh yes. I just bought my 01 525i from my grandparents and after my mom rode in it I noticed that and wondered why. Thank you for helping me💯
The seats cleaned up nicely.
The most clear cut example of how to fix this problem. Thank you.
Love these videos 530 owners are gonna refrence this video for years to come. I did with my 325e

Another great video to add to your collection. Nice seeing the Z is still in stall #1 too!

Lol I have a heat gun! But the lighter allows me to focus the heat on a small area. :)

Awesome- many thanks! Got the same issue with my recently acquired 2 e31s

Just watched the same issue M539 restorations had with the seat twist in his E32, Good thing I got a E30 with manual sport seats.
Manual seats, like manual transmissions, are the best :)
Nice work! Really enjoy your BMW content 🙂
This makes me glad I am an e30 enthusiast - so much simpler 👍

I love to relax and watch this series, amazing work!
Awesome work , I’m on the process of doing it myself and I’m glad you showed your mistake very helpful
Always great detail and instructional thanks
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! I just fixed mine, it is a much smoother ride with your help 😊

Did you end up buying it?
@@PracticalEnthusiast I'm gonna pick it up the end of this week for $400!
That's a steal!
@@PracticalEnthusiast Yeah! Ima make it my daily and have my 07 350z as my weekend car for now!
Awesome, thanks so much! Looks like you didn’t spend zero dollars though… I bet that heat shrink tubing was at least 2 dollars. 😂 Thanks again!
Thank you, this fix worked great
awesome video i will be giving this a go tomorrow !
You did a great job very well done!

Unbolt seat, tilt back, prop with 2x4 chunk, use redneck nasty vice grips on seatbelt bolt. Easy-peasy.
Thanks for sharing....... I need to do this on both seats as well.....
Much needed to see know ik wt to due nxt day off
Thanks for your content❤
Great Video.
Thanks for your video. What tool should I use since my bolts are star shaped?
It helped a lot thank you very much..
Good job bro
Very well done ..thank you.

Are you able to raise the seat base? Or is that motor/cable broken as well?

Is it worth getting a 2002 540 with 108k miles? Or better a Mercedes 2003 E 430 with 120k miles?
Hej mam pytanie czy przed naprawą muszę ustawić fotele równo ?
Np. oparcie ?
Czy wróci na to samo miejsce jak będzie już sprawny ?
You will want to manually align the seat before reconnecting the cable. It won't self correct.
I did this any my seat is still twisting. Any other area I should check?
thanks a lot
My 99 Lexus is laughing at that electric seat ;) hahha
Hi i have the same problem, seat dont goed up and down on one side onky, do i have to fix all 4?
bro i would
can I use this same method for a 95’540i (e34), i have the same problem
I haven't done it on an E34, but I imagine it would be very similar.
Hi, did you bought new steel ends for the cables or you just cleaned old ones?
I reused the old ends. If you hear them up enough you don't even need to clean out the old plastic because it melts and conforms.
@@PracticalEnthusiast Super, i have to make it also on both seats. THX for hints !
Did you disconnect the battery before removing the seats?
It's good practice to do that, but I didn't do that here.
What happened to the E30?
make longer videos please like at least 20mins
Gloves ! Omg , pretty boy needs to keep his mani nice !! Lmao!
You're damn right
Next time show where the bolts are located
Thanks
