Nice video! I am a homeowner and need to redo deck railings on my back deck because the original design wrapped treated lumber (similar posts to this video) with decorative aluminum wrap. The chemicals in the post are now reacting to the aluminum wrap and essentially eating through the decorative exterior. Do the plywood/ferring strips or this particular aluminum keep that from happening in this design? Thanks for the help! Railings look great.
Yeah I’ve heard of the aluminum and copper reacting if there is direct contact. Most post wraps are oversized. Did your post wraps touch the green treat directly? Another solution would be to wrap treated post with butyl tape or flashing tape to create a barrier.
What size column wraps are those? I have some 6x6 posts I want to wrap in black wraps would the superior 6x6 wraps work or do I need to go with 8x8 wraps?
8x8 wraps for 6x6 posts, pack out post where railing attaches for your screws to anchor into, and wrap the post with zip tap/ butyl tape as the wood treatment in green treat will react with the aluminum wraps if they come in contact with one another. 👍
@@AMAYERICAN Thanks for the quick reply. I did just find your other video on this and saw you used the treated pine. I'm trying to wrap a beam, but want it to have the same look and feel as my aluminum wrapped posts. Though, I'm not sure I should try to have the beam wrapped in aluminum, so looking for options. I'll check out, lp and azek. Are those a type of trim board?
@rossvanwyk1520 yes they are trim boards but I agree matching the aluminum would look great. You could hire contractor with a break to wrap it. Or use pre made facia with corrugations, though I think smooth finish always looks best. What type of wraps do you have ?
@@AMAYERICAN I'm putting the 4x4 posts into the aluminum sleeves from Home Depot. They're called VersaRail 4.25 in. x 4.25 in. x 108 in. Matte Black Aluminum Rail Post Sleeve. I would agree, aluminum wrap would look best. Just need to find someone with a break who can do it.
sorry for the delay I missed your comment. Here is the link to the harmony railing where you can see the intermediate post in the middle of longer sections. Harmony rail is a good system, it is lighter built than AFCO, but more reasonably priced and much faster to install. Let me know if you have anymore questions, thanks for watching! ruclips.net/video/hDGWa_QhpTA/видео.html

Good work brother! 👌🏼
thanks brotherman!

Great video. What did you wrap the beams with?
Thanks ! That job I believe it was treated pine, now I would opt for lp or azek has come out with some great products.

Nice, be sure to wrap 4x4s with butyl tape/ zip tape the entire length. If treated lumber make contact with post wrap it will eat the finish
What do you do when your space between the columns are over 8 foot?
Most companies make an intermediate post for that situation. Watch my harmony railing video to see that system.
@@AMAYERICAN can you send me a link. I can't find it.
