- We started this project over 16 years ago to film a documentary of before and after of the Mikhail Lermontov wreck one of New Zealand's worst Maritime disasters!!!!!
THE LAST CRUISE OF MIKHAIL LERMONTOV
At dawn on the morning of February 16, 1986, the luxury Russian liner Mikhail Lermontov steamed past the bush-covered hills of Tory Channel towards Picton, on the last leg of a two-week cruise. The ship never made it out of the Marlborough Sounds. That night, she lay in 30 meters of water in Port Gore, her hull sliced open like a tin of herrings. Miraculously, all but one of her 738 passengers and crew were rescued in a Dunkirk-style operation involving dozens of vessels ranging from fishing boats to an inter-island ferry. Thirteen years on, however, suspicion still lingers around New Zealand’s largest shipwreck.

Humble down to earth steeped in your chosen feild of exspertise your love of things aquatic shows thru (Respect)
cool. i was in NZ when she sunk and I went for a dive on the wreck as an inexperienced diver so only explored the outside and stuck my head inside a window but that was still a pretty amazing experience.
yeah its epic dive for sure
I went on this ship with my grandparents age about 11 or 12 I'm 52 now I also went on its sister ship the taras shavenco both back then where amazing ships
Wow awesome think there was a few of them made
Have dived a few wrecks but my opinion is penetrating most wrecks is for experienced technical divers only. Low visibility and fairly deep within, with a risk of disorientation and requiring extended decompression. It has claimed the lives of three divers already.
Awesome, love your dive vids
Nice work! Very interesting. Keep up the good work
Cheers brother found some old skool footage on those mini DV tapes of us In UK sweet jesus hahahahahahaha
Rule one: don't go inside a wreck. Rule two: Refer to rule one.

Does a dive company offer dives for experienced wreck divers?
U new when to fold those cards Mark, good judgment there.
Why is,this "one of new Zealands worst maritime disasters ". Only one person lost their life.
unsure ask maritime mate
Being the worst does not have to be related to loss of life.
