- Lyrics:
Love me, Love me, Love me
Say you do
Let me fly away with you
For my love is like the wind
And Wild is the Wind
Give me more than one caress
Satisfy this hungriness
Let the wind blow through your heart
Wild is the wind
You touch me
I hear the sound of mandolins
You kiss me
With you kiss, my life begins
You're spring to me
All things to me
You're life itself
Like a leaf clings to a tree
Oh, my darling, cling to me
For we're creatures of the wind
And wild is the wind
Wild is the wind
Wild is the wind
"Wild Is the Wind" is a song written by Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington. The track was originally recorded by Johnny Mathis for the 1957 film Wild Is the Wind. The song was very popular and was one of five songs nominated for an Academy Award; it was sung by Johnny Mathis at the March 1958 Oscar presentations. Mathis' version of the song was also released as a single by Columbia Records (4-41060) in November 1957, and reached No. 22 on the Billboard chart.
The song has been recorded many times, including twice by Nina Simone, first on the live album Nina Simone at Town Hall (1959) and then in a studio recording included on Wild Is the Wind (1966). David Bowie recorded a version of it for his 1976 album Station to Station. Bowie was an admirer of Simone’s style, and after meeting her in Los Angeles in 1975, was inspired to record the song for his album.
And Shirley Horn
My grandma loves Johnny Mathis.
Thanks Charlie 🖤
Beautiful , thank you for the history. It’s all inspiring!
Even had she never sung a note, her piano work is divine and stands alone.
that's the Truth!
Juilliard trained.
She was discouraged from a classical career, so she ended up in NEW YORK venues, doing this magic..🎶💕
She originally wanted to be a concert pianist, because of racism that never happened.
She would state that, she was not a singer, she was a pianist.
@@shellecapos8574 No denying the rancid racism of the time period but I'm not sure it was the only reason she took the musical path she did. I think she just followed her natural strengths. That mainly being an almost super-human instinctive feel for _all_ musical genres.
Each time I listen to this song and I close my eyes I feel like flying in the darkness.... without taking any drug...this is the power of the music and the sound of a heavenly voice.....In my opinion Nina Simone made the best version of this song, ever.
💝
You are so right, Alberto.
Definitely the most soulful and intense version.
This is the most beautiful song ever recorded. Absolutely breathtaking.
I never knew much about Nina until I just started to discover her online. Here is my take. Nina was not about show biz. She was pure, raw talent who felt she had a very strong message. She eschewed the glitz and the bullshit of the business and gave us what all true vocalists should give us and that is TALENT and shear musicianship. During her lifetime, America did not fully accept her due to her "look" and ethnicity. She fought. She preservered. She left yet she remains in our collective lives.
Nina Simone interprets this song infinitely superior to any other performer. The depth of feeling she expresses is beautiful and true. Brilliant!
Listen to Bowie 's version.
+Nostre38 Bowie does a beautiful rendition., passionate. I do prefer simone's arrangement with less instrumentation. Love both versions, thanks.
Dabney Fountain She is amazing, I also love Cat Power's cover, love when singers aren't afraid to show their voices raw and vulnerable, adds so much passion and emotion.
Josiahjoel5. Yes,...and that depth of passion in a singer not only is rare and beautiful but also is Simone's unique gift.
I believe you are still young
This woman is not of this earth. Pure soul. None of the 'soul' singers of today come anywhere close to this.
This is my favourite version of hers, as well. The straightforward approach to the melody here works for me better than the other versions do.
This album was my first introduction to Ms Simone, I was 12 or 13, maybe 1960, not sure, but I was in love. Her voice pierced my heart and soul. Nobody like her.
The modern 'soul' singers could learn a great deal from this amazing lady. Sometimes less is more and I've always thought the likes of Whitney Houston and Maria Carey are at their best when they keep it simple and pure. Nina Simone shows that approach superbly here.
FABULOUS. Unique, eternal, and amazing Nina Simone!!
Please dont compare two artists who have different styles. Nina and Bowie are both legends in their own genre's of music. You cannot choose between the sun and the moon as both shine in their own light
Deepthoughts Herenow Well, you’re wrong there, technically speaking the moon gets it’s light from the sun.
Nina was an enigma. With my business partners I bought Nina to Australia. At her concert in South Australia she has all of us back stage in tears, so powerful was her performance. RIP Nina, it wasn't till we said goodbye and I asked you to sign my Forbidden Fruit album did you realise I was the reason you came to Australia.
Her voice is like a dream to me. So raw and passionate!
When Bowie drops the crescendo just before 'kiss me' it gives me chills
Tellement tendre, cette chanson me bouleverse et je pense à lui
Joli message, j’espère qu’il l’entend...
Her voice is like velvet. Absolutely amazing. 💜
Velvet and Belladonna, so much anger against the unfairness of life for some (a very large some) in the U.S
Singing this rage with the beauty of Maria Callas and be able to not explode... Such a strong and beautiful person!
That voice..saying this song is just beautiful would be an understatement.
You're not kidding - this is the best recording of it EVER!!!
she made me cry, thank you
best version of this song!
Cette femme est magnifique et somptueuse. Sa voix, sur un accompagnement dépouillé est profonde comme les chutes du Niagara même !!
...la voce dell'anima
COMPOSER: Dimitry Tiomkin composed this piece. It was originally recorded by Johnny Mathis for the 1957 film Wild Is the Wind.
Haunts yet uplifts all at the same time. This women is a hidden gem no doubt
what a voice! so soothing yet soulful ! For a romantic night with someone that deserves it! I love this world a little more bec of her voice
A voice that turns an evening into an unforgettable moment.
I didn't know very much about Nina Simone, nor listened to her music until I saw the movie Nina with Zoe Saldana and David Oyelowo. Now I am searching and loving her music. I am a fan of the movie and Nina Simone legacy.
The only true version of this song I’m in love with. Bowie’s good but Nina just has a way that’s hits hard.
A friend in 9th grade in the 60's introduced me to NS. She was wild as the wind too... Thank you Kristen
經典重温77:This woman is just so special that you couldn't resist but surrender to Her !
Wild Is The Wind ~~~~~~~ !
Recorded 1959, Vinyl "Nina Simone at Town Hall." A marvel.
A very beautiful song
Metal head here. this is beautiful
Simply the most extraordinary ear and voice that ever laid into a song
Nina Simone, delivers so many beautiful tingles up and down my spine, then through my whole body and mind with her performance of the timeless love song. Art, music and humanity were blessed by her presence in time !
Just the best version of this song... and this is the best recording of the many versions Nina did... stripped down perfection. I heard it first on an old MFP album a friend found in a junkshop, and then spent many, many years trying to find it for myself... back in the pre-internet days!!
and a wonderful pianist to boot.
She was a classically trained pianist. The voice came from the heart.
Remembering David Bowie this evening....such amazingly great singers and songs with a very certain "specialness" about them that makes such people immortal in memory and achievements. Every era brings unforgettable human beings...we cannot all hope to be outstanding..but somehow there are those who shine out and remain forever bright even when the earthly aspect fades; this particularly wonderful song highlights a mere three.....Nina Simone,Johnny Mathis and David Bowie......... Not one is forgotten or ever likely to be as each are truly special.

¡Bravo!¡Bravo!¡Bravo!¡Bravo!¡Bravo!¡Bravo!¡NINA!
wow... presumably the best version!
That is one beautiful woman!
It's rare to find such emotion and such control in the same voice but, then again, she DID aspire to be a classical artist... and for classically-trained singers, control IS the key...
What is the classical piece she is quoting at the beginning and at the end? Tip of my tongue. Anyways. So incredible to see this level of humanity in expression.
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL ⭐JUST LEARNING ABOUT HER😊THE PIANO AN THE WAY SHE SINGS, LIKE SHES TELLING U SOMETHING. 💥💥💥
I really really really love this song.
She gives us feelings ...only Nina !
I think the studio recording is the best version. Not only is it longer but i feel like she takes her time to really feel the mood. Not to say this version is not amazing though. Nina is the best ever.
Both Simone and Bowie are beautiful. Sometimes it is the memory of the moment that makes a difference as to which you would prefer.
"Widows", a movie about robbery done by 4 widows (2018) introduced me to this romantic jazzy song. This love song sounds unique to me with Nina Simone's voice combined with the gloomy tunes I feel in the verses. I love it.
Nina is simply perfection...
I was listening to Roberta Flack singing "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and I kept thinking of Nina Simone. I'm guessing this is the song that reminds me of Nina.
This is remarkable!
Raw velvet, amazing.
What a delectable, spot on description!
My lullaby! Love you Nina! 😍
So very beautiful
Agree best version - the Town Hall album was possibly her very best.
If one is BLUE this the one song that said all, She is for me the QUEEN of Soul.
Beautiful!
Sleep sound Nina x thank you for perfection.
This one of my favorite songs
Widows brought me here.... What a film with amazing music.
You put words to my feelings.
Thanks, Thom.
Amazing voice
Beautiful..!!
Beautiful
beautiful!
amazing... sheer delight
It's funny how simple the song technically is, and yet no other song moves me in such a way. Even the classical masters don't seem to reach me like this does.
God I love that song. That song is so boneworthy.
Very nice and true what you wrote about Nina Simone, a really star!
Maravillosa ¡!!
this sends shivers down my spine every time.. . . amazing version. thanks for sharing
Solo siento mi corazon, se me pone la piel de gallina y me dan ganas de llorar! Es una cancion y una cantante perfecta!

David Bowie does this justise as well. Love Nina, but Bowie does this one pretty damn good too.
Cudos to David to dare doing this after Nina... (I really like his version to)
wow!
perfect
Wait Nina, a storm is coming. The clouds are forming and angry. I see, hear and feel the color purple. We must go back. No, I want to feel alive, I want to feel wild as the wind. Love me, love me, say you do. Nina we must go back. No, caress me forever, take my hunger away. Kiss me, touch me. The thunder and your kiss feels like a thousand mandolins. Hold tight to the tree Nina like a leaf my love. No, hold me Omoro. Hold me; we will fly away together like creatures of the wind. We are itself~~
man we lost her and there is not gonna be another one ..
mucho bello
Great history
💐💐💐💐💐 maravilla
if you guys like this version, I think you'll like the one by Esperanza Spalding. I personally love it. There's a pretty lengthy instrumental in the beginning but it's very beautiful. I suggest looking it up
PRECIOSA CANCION
Yes, it is!
Wow.
