How to Put on a Duvet Cover: The California Roll Way

  • Inspired by the art of making sushi, we are introducing a unique way to stuff a comforter inside a duvet cover. Watch our step by step process of the California Roll: the easiest way to put on a duvet cover all by yourself. More information: www.craneandcanopy.com/pages/1...
    Shop this duvet cover set:
    www.craneandcanopy.com/product...
Step 1: Take your duvet cover from the dryer and turn it inside out. Lay the duvet cover out on top of your bed. The opening of the duvet cover should be facing away from where you stand.
Step 2: Take your comforter (or duvet) and place it on top of the duvet cover.
Step 3: Ensure all corners and edges are aligned neatly. The more aligned they are to one another, the better the end result. If your duvet cover comes with corner ties, tie all interior corner ties of the duvet cover to the loops on the comforter.
Step 4: Once aligned, stand opposite of the opening of the duvet cover and begin to roll the comforter and duvet cover. Adjust the edges as you roll, making sure they are rolled together.
Step 5: After everything is completely rolled up, grab hold of one end of the roll. Using the enclosure of the duvet cover, stuff the comforter roll inside. Continue the motion across the entire roll.
Step 6: Zip up the duvet cover. Position the California Roll on the bed so that the zipper enclosure is aligned with the bottom of the bed.
Step 7: Start unrolling. The unrolling motion should be a mixture of unrolling and pulling apart the duvet cover from the roll.
Step 8: Give the duvet cover a few shakes and that’s it!

At first as I unrolled it, it didn't seem to be working because mine has a button system instead of zip, but the I went to the other side, grabbed the corners that were tied with the string on the inside, and gave the whole thing a good shake, and voila!

@@youdbettertubeso you roll it up, and then when you get to the end, you flip the two ends of the cover over the rolled up thing.
You have the opening of the cover, right? Thats basically 2 pieces of fabric, one of them goes OVER the roll you made, and the other one you pull up UNDER it so they meet at the top. Then you unroll it.
Try to play with it a little, once you get the hang of it, its really easy!

How I would approach this: I would lay this duvet cover flat with the zipper side down (so that you cannot see the zipper side), roll it up like the video shows, but then you are turn it right side out starting at the zipper, rather than like it shows in the video, & tuck the end of the comforter to the corners before unrolling it.

It worked thank you! I remember seeing this years and years ago and once I actually got a duvet I wanted to try it but didn't really remember how and this was very easy to follow!

I got my duvet with comforter for Christmas...of 2022. Tried to put it on, got frustrated and threw it in the spare room. Decided a year later to try again and saw this video. Took me 10 minutes 😂. Thank you!

I've never had a duvet cover before. Trying to put it on was a nightmare. I almost tossed it in the backyard fire pit.
I'm so glad I found this video without all the superfluous chitchat. I followed the instructions (pausing at each step) and it worked!
I have no idea how, but it worked easily. Now I want to buy more duvet covers. . . .

Thank you!!!! You saved my hurting shoulders. Washed the cover today and was like..huh? It would have taken an act of God to get that King sizer into it. Lol, flipped the corner the wrong way, flipped it the other way, didn't think it would roll cuz it looked like a big white caccoon! But it did. Many thanks to you 🙋❤✝💕

Used this method, had never put a duvet cover on, but I bought a $20 white comforter and there was no way I wasnt covering it. This method worked beautifully even though my duvet was a row of buttons and not a zipper, thank you 😇😇
