Well done PRS and Doug Sewell in making this refreshed version that stays true to the simplicity and feel. I'm super jealous, and will definitely try one of these out if/when they show up at my local music shop in Pittsburgh.
Jimi Used the VOX V845 Classic Wah wah (though it wasn’t called classic when he used it lol). Sounds exactly like Jimi’s wah wah sound (because it is!) It’s a lot more funky sounding than the wah Tyler has here
I dunno... It sounded very muddy to me. I mean, Jimi's sound was kinda muddy, but not quite like this. Might just be me, I'm sure it sounds better in person.
Most likely got put into storage cos of internal issues with the Hendrix Estate. It's a long story of internal affairs but I think most of his stuff has been locked away so no one can hear or see it.
PRS were going to put a Fender headstock on it but Fender pointed out that the shape is one of their trademarks, and they'd prefer it if PRS' Strat clone didn't infringe on it. There's a video of John Mayer throwing a hissy fit about it. It's hilarious. How dare they stop him ripping them off!
Fantastic! I would love to see Tyler make a video demonstrating how Hendrix used the wah-wah in a more sophisticated way than any other player. The quintessential example in my opinion is the beginning of Still Raining Still Dreaming and then all of the rest of the song. As the saying goes, he knows how to make it talk.
I used a dunlop crybaby for over a decade for everything. I took mine apart and adjusted the wheel that controlled the depth so it naturally scooped a little lower when I wasn't satisfied with it. I got a Vox wah about 3 years ago and yeah, if you're wanting to sound like hendrix (especially Voodoo Chile) the Vox gets closer than the Crybaby (in my opinion). But it doesn't really matter, put your own spin on it.
For talking about Hendrix so much you’d think he’d play a strat through a Hendrix amp but you know... Tyler. PRS silver sky’s don’t sound like strats and Jimi definitely used vox wahs there are fing photos
@@thenoobassassin no offense but that's ignorant as hell. Go find one video of someone playing the National Anthem and it sounding almost exactly like Hendrix's Woodstock performance. Thanks once again for a great demo and hat's off to PRS !
"It's been a long time since a piece of gear got me excited" , Sure Ty, sure.
Exactly! Didn’t he get PRS’s version of a custom shop not long ago?
@@Icantdrive55 he’s also played one of Clapton’s strats
NOW YOUR HAVING TO MUCH FUN!! I'M JEALOUS: GOOD TONE. You got it!
I thought I was going to see an actual Jimi Hendrix amp.
Beautifully done by you and PRS!
It sounds great but Jim Marshall Hendrix without an amp from Jim Marshall is strange.
Jimi used 59 Fender Bassman in the studio mostly
Sounds so spot on! Legendary.
Dude how are you recording the amp? Is it just a room mic? Sounds epic.
interface i assume
Probably the OX box setup behind him
Breath-taking tone. I can't even find more words, it is other-worldly and quite inspiring to listen to even on the YT. Well done PRS and Doug Sewell in making this refreshed version that stays true to the simplicity and feel. I'm super jealous, and will definitely try one of these out if/when they show up at my local music shop in Pittsburgh.
So PRS copied a Strat and now they've basically copied a Marshall Plexi 😂
Thanks Tyler. This was awesome.
I was playing Stone Free 20 minutes before this.
That’s was amazing!! I could hear Jimi’s guitar - spot on! Loved the video!!
Jimi Used the VOX V845 Classic Wah wah (though it wasn’t called classic when he used it lol). Sounds exactly like Jimi’s wah wah sound (because it is!)
It’s a lot more funky sounding than the wah Tyler has here
we are talking about 6000$ amp & hp 4x12 + 600$ univibe + 200$ smiley .... but you and prs nailed it so much i'm impressed !
I dunno... It sounded very muddy to me. I mean, Jimi's sound was kinda muddy, but not quite like this. Might just be me, I'm sure it sounds better in person.
Holy Moly, that was great! Such great playing! I love Jimi, and I could feel the vibe the whole way thru. Immense!
What ever happened to all of Jimi Hendrix's Marshall Amps ? I understand they were hot rodded )
Most likely got put into storage cos of internal issues with the Hendrix Estate. It's a long story of internal affairs but I think most of his stuff has been locked away so no one can hear or see it.
@@gabrielmumbray4287 For what purpose . Put them in a museum , reproduce them .
@@trevorgwelch7412 I don't know why.... Ask the Hendrix estate
Awesome Tyler as always ....always honor your opinion and talent.....now send that amp to Johnny Mayer....
i looked at the price and cried a little inside
Wow!!🤯🤯
The star spangled banner was out of this world, gave me chills.
Sorry for being a purist, but jesus christ i hate that headstock
Agreed... tone wise, the guitar is pretty solid, but PRS head stocks have always been so unattractive
same...it's an abomination lol
i like it tbh
I like them more than fender or Gibson but I honestly have never seen a headstock I love haha
PRS crushed it. Saw Hendrix in '68. Sound is spot on!!!!!!
Imagine how good it would sound with a real Strat 😎
For talking about Hendrix so much you’d think he’d play a strat through a Hendrix amp but you know... Tyler. PRS silver sky’s don’t sound like strats and Jimi definitely used vox wahs there are fing photos
@@thenoobassassin that's because this is just a PRS ad disguised as a yt vid
You are correct sir, sadly. But I get it, the shilling is just hardcore.
@@thenoobassassin no offense but that's ignorant as hell. Go find one video of someone playing the National Anthem and it sounding almost exactly like Hendrix's Woodstock performance. I don't play PRS but they damn sure sound very close to a Strat. That's why John Mayer plays one now. Strat guys love them for a reason.
It's very easy to forget you're a really good guitar player with your humor and three fingers technique...You're the best three fingers technique guitar player i have ever seen...After Gary Moore...I hope you realized that is a very high compliment...
isnt that just a marshall plexi tho? or did jimi mod it?
awesome playing and channeling Hendrix!
That doesn't look like a Marshall Plexi
I "added" the Drum Intro to Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) by slapping my thighs and playing "Air High-Hat". The sounds you were able to get were absolutely eerie 🎸
I'm sure Paul had to sell his soul to the Hendrix estate to be able to do this.
Unreal!! The castles made of sand backwards solo video blew my mind
I was all excited for a moment, I thought you had actually got to play Jimi's amp. But, no, just another PRS Advert.
That’s what RUclips personalities are man.
We get to watch a constant stream of videos promoting products
These videos are modern day infomercials
It’s so pervasive younger kids don’t even realize they are just watching product commercials all day lol
@@lomoholga yeah. I get that. But I feel like this was a misleading title. Especially considering that Tyler has actually played a variety of iconic guitars it meant it was believable for him to be playing Jimi's amp. 😥
@@CARBr6 I hear you. RUclips is now in a no-win situation for the viewers.
In order for people like him to churn out videos, they have to get paid. There’s no two way about it. It takes way too much time and effort for guys like him to do this for free man.
Problem is that you can see the ‘content’ quickly changes from totally independent guitar themed clips into what we have here- constant stream of commercials that are no different in function from watching the old fashioned shopping channel on cable TV.
It just feeds the constant consumer behaviour and general GAS
They don’t get enough views doing generic unsponsored videos to make it worthwhile
@@lomoholga I'm not complaining about the advertising nature of the video, it's the misleading title.
Especially with Tyler, who has actually been invited to play some real-life guitars owned by legendary guitarists. So I genuinely believed that he was going to play a strat through Jimi's amp (based on the thumbnail) instead he played a PRS strat copy through a PRS copy amp.
You sound great, bro! Love your passion for Jimi!
Wow,some of you actually think that was his actual amp lmfao
Holy cow, tone for DAYS. Nice one PRS
How can he have such good luck???
bc music is win
Hard work
P.R.S. nailed it. Also your playing helped a lot. You really understand Jimi"s playing style. Best I've ever heard and Im Sixty!!!!!!!!!!
Marshall missed an opportunity to do this themselves.
This is when you know you've made it. Congratulations Tyler.
And hotdamn, that sounds goooood.
