You're the Hugh Grant of chair weaving! Thanks for the video, I'm having so much fun recaning the seat of an old Thonet armchair that someone had tossed in the trash!
Hi there. I have a Bentwood round seat chair. I like to restore it with rattan seating. I do need to drill the holes in the rebate. Could you tell me how far apart I should drill the holes? Where can I buy the 2.5mm Rattan ?
Hi Wickerguru, Enjoying your instructional videos. I am making an Indian daybed, charpai, very similar to the daybed repair job you did. The entire bed consists of about 180 feet of rope. As you can imagine it is quite unwieldy to weave the bundle of rope through every weave. Is there another solution? I cannot figure out how the ancients accomplished weaving these things with one strand of rope in an efficient manner. Perhaps the knots/splices are under the charpai's I have seen. Many thanks.
I'm trying to create a toddler bed frame. I can't find any tutorials online or any material suggestions for that matter. I'm thinking of using willow or bamboo. I want to use rounded material, and all I can find is flat rattan online to purchase. There is a rattan daybed at anthropologie that is similar to what I am trying to accomplish. Any suggestions?
Ciao Claudia, Yep...Un tano a foro???? Basically the number of holes x $$. Variations of size of cane and size of area to weave. Blind caning more $$$.
I've got a question, I just bought a chair very similar to this one that needs repairing. It has small holes all around like this one rather than a groove going around. Is it possible to repair this kind of chair without having to hand weave the cane? Like the way you fixed that chair in the 10min video using ready made rattan sheets?
Sara Albertsson yes but you will need to router a groove by marrying up all the holes around the seat frame. Then fit the Rattan Webbing into the groove with a Cane spline.
Thank you for your reply! That is great to hear, hand weaving looks significantly harder and time consuming. What tool would you recommend to make the groove and how deep would you recommend making the groove?
Sara Albertsson, you need to use a router. Router bit should be the same size as the holes in the frame and maximum depth 6 mm. There’s videos on my channel.
Porque vcs, diviculta o aprrendisado , não é assim. Ta dudo. Errado!!.
Beautifully explained thank you!
Thank you, and my pleasure.
So nice to see the art of handweaving wickerwork kept alive and handed down through to the next generation. Top marks!
Why thank you , your comment is much appreciated.

Hi, not aware of any cane suppliers in NZ. However I can post to you from OZ, no worries.
Go to my web site /diy, you can order there.
