Loved it man, learn so much about mixing and what actually the effects really do when you apply them. Would love to see a video only about programming drumming in Ableton, struggle when I have to fix midi stuff :(
I can be of assistance. A few basic Ableton Live steps will go a long way. *I make punk, post punk, synthpop, EBM, dark ambient, neo-folk, neo-classical, even harsh noise elements and death industrial, a lot of crap Making drum tracks is my go-to formula that sets the tone of the project... as it actually morphs into a song itself [even if there's no drums in the song] Every new project starts with a drum rack. - every drum hit/sample in said drum rack is treated like an instrument; every hit will have a few things depending on the style... DBX, SSL, sometimes an L2 (limiter), or transient shaper - every drum hit(in simpler window) is cropped to JUST have the drum hit audio... [there will always be a bleed if you dont, muddling up your track] When you go to use this drum pattern you made with this rack, create a resampling audio track and bounce the beat to wav format, then disable drum rack or collect and save then delete it, to save RAM, bit depth, latency bullsh!t. You can't hear it yet til you play this track in a good sound system, you'll shit your pants, I swear. My car started shaking yet I have no subwoofey... O_o
def sounds way better than the last vid. only thing i would have done diff (and i know you didnt ask) would be to pan the effects on the lead vocal in that effects rack.
Wow! This is a really helpful video, because I'm already using Ableton for a while to create punkrock, but it's frustrating when i don't get the ideal sound. I'm wondering though why you don't use effect rack for the guitars? because you are using it for the other instruments. Is there a reason for that? By the way, if you want, you can also move your duplicated guitar track just a very tiny bit (milliseconds) in order to have nice stereo effect on your guitars (it's something i learned from another youtube video) :)
Sometimes I use FX racks for guitars. It really depends on what’s happening on the track really. Yeah delaying guitars works! But nothing is wider than two different guitar takes! Thanks for watching!
Hi man, thanks for Part 1 and 2 of the tutorial. In terms of panning, what do you pan (if at all)? I believe the kick, snare, bass and vocal would all be centred and mono, right? Thanks.
this is everything I was searching for! thanks so much for this.
Thank you!
Loved this song
Again, I love this series !
Nice one!
why the fuck do you only have 19 comments? Great stuff man!
Thank you Alex!

[the kick and bass need to be adjusted accordingly, to stop them from fighting over frequencies]

Hey! Thanks for watching. Yeah usually bass, snare and kick are center. The main vocals can be center too. But for the rest you can be creative
Pervy but helpful
That’s what I do!
