    On Mike Tyson's podcast "Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson", Tyson admitted that he was more confident for this fight than any other and that he wanted to really hurt Biggs because they both came up as amateurs around the same time, but at the time Biggs got all the media attention and accolades and it made Mike jealous as a young man. As the defending champ here, Tyson was given a chance to punish Biggs for this.

      “What? You mean on this flight, not his fight. He’s not fighting at the Olympics,” Biggs said.
      Shit like that stayed with me then. I trained so hard. I was motivated to kick his ass. I don’t even like talking about this fight. It was seven rounds of heartless punishment”

    biggs, dancing around the ring like Ali, throwing jabs for 7 rounds, if it were any other fighter, it would have lasted 10 rounds and biggs would have come out as the winner . biggs had dancing skillls like ali but not stinging skills like ali. this here is tyson, and no amount of jabs will shake him. u got to land a couple of heavy punches, hooks and only then he would become a little wobbly. biggs was effective, better than many others, tall, had a longer reach, faster but tyson nullified all that .

    And if anyone has doubts after that, let’s also remember a few more facts and arguments:
    Ali’s chin was of steel, and resisted the pounchers of George Foreman and Earnie Shavers, who are the hardest pounchers in all boxing history, and also of a lot of HARD HITTERS like Ron Lyle, Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, Cleveland Williams etc, so if anyone is arguing that Tyson just needed one good pounch, that’s literally bullshit, he was an animal in all senses, he was the fastest heavyweight in history, the dude jabs moved his opponent heads a lot, had an AMAZING footwork and reflexes. There’s no way Tyson would have beaten prime Ali

    don't know why anyone would say ali would beat tyson. Even if ali's chin is good, getting knocked down a dozen times in a match would not allow ali to win. Foreman just punched himself out after some rounds. No boxer in tyson's era would just poop out from hitting the wall. The sport evolved so far beyond that and he already demonstrated he was capable of going the full distance against a good chin (ribalta).

    • @Zlatirano
      @Zlatirano Год назад +1

      How low can you go. Ali couldve easily beat tyson. Tyrell used the same style as ali but didnt have his stamina. It was only when tyrell got tired where he got knocked out. Ali could go 15 rounds with anyone and bounce for that duration plus he would tire tyson out and then engage. The dude also faced joe frazier, someone who also has a sort of peak a boo style. And he won 2 of the 3 fights. Conclusion: ali wins mid diff.

      You're right, he also largely abandoned the peekaboo style (high guard, rocking left and right) in the latter part of his career. Without Cus and Kevin Rooney in his corner, Tyson abandoned a lot of the fundamentals that got him to that point.

      @JJ_SDWR 5 лет назад +2

      @@byrongammonbyrongammon9937 I didn't mean this fight, I meant later in his career (post-prison). Tyson was still very much in his prime during this time period (1987) and possibly hadn't even entered his prime yet. Kevin Rooney is in his corner for this fight, you can see him at the end after the ref stops it. Tyson was a headhunter but his obliterating hooks to the body set up a large number of his devastating knockouts. One of the few heavyweights to throw a left hook to the body followed by an immediate left hook to the head and not only did it land but almost took the guys head off.

    •  3 года назад

      Tyson's style changed with the Bruno fight. What changed? He'd sacked Kevin Rooney. He went from mobile peek-a-boo, getting under jabs & ducking hooks to set up his powerful uppercut and/or left hook to just a scrappy slugger.

      kaval 2003 ....Tyson was better than Frazier. You forget how key Eddie Futch was in Frazier’s corner. Tyson was a much better fighter than Frazier.

      @@byrongammonbyrongammon9937 frazier had better stamina, bob and weave, chin and durability
      tyson was just a bette puncher
      frazier would cut the distance more
      plus frazier used one greatest asset to give ali that much trouble and it's because eddie fitch tought him to hit ali in the hips when ali clinches him
      its the only thing that mad frazier stand up to ali, tyson is known for stopping his actionng held.
      and again mate ali fought frazier past his prime and after his lay off. do u know what happened to mike tyson after his lay off ? he stopped his head movement, lost more stamina and became lasy. im talking prime for prime yet u still mention ali's fight when he was not at his best but keep comparing him to a prime tyson.
      if u wanna talk about the ali that fought frazier then u have to talk talk about the tyson that fought holyfield. they were both 28 by then.

      kaval 2003 ....you should do more research and/or read more carefully. Muhammad Ali’s fight versus Cleveland ‘Cat’ Williams is often held up as Ali’s standard performance...that which all other matches are compared against because he was flawless in the ring that night.
      You just said that Joe Frazier was a better fighter than Mike Tyson? You must be high AF on pharmaceutical-grade narcotics. Frazier didn’t possess the hand speed nor the power IN EACH HAND that Tyson possessed. Mike Tyson was a 19-year old teenager while he beating down grown men. Sure Tyson had major rust after being out of boxing for 3 years....any fighter would. Frazier did not have a better bob and weave than Tyson....Frazier took way more blows that Tyson ever did. Frazier’s chin pales in comparison to Tyson’s. Just because he ate tons of head blows from Ali doesn’t mean Frazier had a chin....Ali didn’t possess one-punch knock out power. Frazier got the shit kicked out of him by George Foreman. Tyson took blows flush on the chin from Razor Ruddock, Frank Bruno, and Tony Tucker and STILL kept moving forward. Frazier used to cross his arms in front of him as a defense.....it negates the use of your arms....Tyson used to slip past his opponents punches to do damage on the inside. Tyson was ALWAYS the smaller man....his reach was 71 inches and Tyson stood at nearly 5’-11” tall. Floyd Mayweather stood at 5’-8” tall and had a reach of 72 inches. Razor Ruddock stood at 6’-3” tall and had a reach of 82 inches. Tyson broke his jaw in their second match. Tyson cuts distance better than any fighter his size has ever done...and he evaded punches while he did it too.

    "If I don't kill him...It don't count" - Tyson said that on the way to the ring.......Mike was pretty pissed...it shows in this fight...Biggs was a fine fighter but beating an angry Mike Tyson in his prime is a hard piece of work.

      Wasn't possible. Prime Mike with Cus at his side, could not be beaten in the ring. Cus built such an efficient brutalizing machine and Cus's presence made Mike feel untouchable. Losing wasn't even conceivable with Cus and prime Iron Mike.
