Trains at the Station Street, Officer Level Crossing; Last Day Before Closure - Melbourne Transport

In this video we visit the Station Street level crossing, situated adjacent to Officer Station on the Pakenham Line in Melbourne's outer south east. Here we see some Metro High Capacity Metro Trains passing the level crossing on its last day of operation.
In a bid to make the Pakenham Line level crossing free the Station Street level crossing was closed permanently on the 17th May 2024 with no replacement. The date coinciding with a shutdown of the Pakenham Line to remove three level crossings in Pakenham and extend the line 2km to a new terminus at East Pakenham.
Pedestrians will now have to utilise the existing pedestrian crossing at Officer station, while motorists will have the option of using the nearby Siding Road underpass which opened in 2014.
Of note Station Street Officer was one of the last level crossings in Melbourne to feature a set of Westinghouse mechanical Hybrid Bells. These along with the low vehiclar and pedestrian traffic made this level crossing one of my favourites in Melbourne. However in January 2023 the hybrid bells were swapped out for General Signals E-Bells.

i've used officer station quite a few times and i'd argue that even before the crossings closure, siding avenue was still more congested than station street! especially now with all the new development going on around siding avenue...

You say it was closed without replacement but LXRP says its closure coincided with the opening of the Brunt Road overpass and removal of that level crossing about 1km west of Station Street.

Brunt Road is not a direct replacement for Station Street, Officer. The new Brunt Road overpass only replaced the former Brunt Road level crossing.

@@ThebusofdoomFSX They should have built a replacement overpass for Station Street on a road that linked the old highway to the intersection where Bridge and Rix Roads are.

Sounds like political spin. Makes it sound like they've planned it all out properly, when in reality they haven't.
I'd say it's only been closed so that they can tell us how they've made the line safer by removing all level crossings. Leaving just one doesn't look so good. :)

instead of rremoving and replacing the level crossing, they are simply just closing the road and redirecting you to another road further down that is now grade seperated. closing is an interesting method of the level crossing removal project, although not a new concept, it is does raise the question if it is the right method.
