This show became my favorite isekai, the season 2 just solidified 💯 i have too much fun watching
Majority of light novels don't get a proper adaptation, only 86,mushoku tensei, that time I got reincarnated as a slime, re zero, no game no life and now officially eminence in shadow are the best light novel anime adaptations yet

I speak for all the staff that worked on eminence in shadow season 1, season 2 and the upcoming movie, this is legit one of the greatest light novel anime adaptations ever
Isn’t the Eminence in Shadow anime adaptation really constrained by both budget and time limitations? Like sure, it’s super faithful and that’s something to appreciate. The voice acting is on point, obviously. Plus, the OST goes hard as hell for no reason.
But damn, the animation is REALLY choppy. It has it’s decent moments here and there, but you can really tell that the staff was really trying to just manage with what they had available. The directing is also good, which just sucks because they don’t get the time or the amount of talent to make it really pop.
As far as isekai light novel anime adaptations go SPECIFICALLY (not even light novels in general), I’d place it a little above Overlord honestly. Just because, while the production’s quite a bit worse, it’s just more on point as an adaptation. It’s not quite as good as Re:Zero (second season struggled a bit more but they still managed to get something really good going, 24 episodes without openings or endings for most of them is crazy) and not even close to something like Jobless Reincarnation.
@@kytsunee6324 nah your tripping, as a light novel reader, that has read alot of other light novels, most of them do not even get done satisfyingly or justice, let alone surpass my expectations, eminence in shadow is in my opinion in the rare category like 86, mushoku, re zero and that time i got reincarnated as a slime, but i respect your opinion nonetheless

Oh sure, I’m not saying it’s even remotely bad. I just personally don’t really think it’s deserving of a title like “one of the best”. Eminence in Shadow just has some pretty obvious issues that make it kinda hard for me to agree.
But at the end of the day, if it’s someone’s favorite that’s perfectly fine.

might actually be my top anime of 2023, i didn't realise what peak was before watching this episode.
She's "in her 20's", not the same age as from the start. So I don't think it's another realm. I think it's his original. Here's why I'm guessing that:
Remember that they mentioned that when the Oriana kingdom opened up a gateway to another realm, not only were the opposing soldiers killed, but monsters of that realm were transported over?
Now, we know Cid was transported over to the main realm of the series. So it would've happened during one of those "rare occurrences where two realms collide" hence no black rose portal. However, this still means that maybe monsters were transported to "our" realm at the same time
The realm he is in at the end, I think, is the same realm as ep 1. But just a few years in the future, where the monsters have now laid waste to most of humanity
It also means that time passes 4x slower in the universe Cid got isekai'd to since Nishino was probably around 16 or so at the beginning of the series and 20 now, and Cid's spent around 16 years in the new universe

In the novel, he just stood still and got caught up in it, as Cid thought it wouldn't look cool if he 'retreated' from the portal.
There is another rewrite in this ending, but I won't mention it, because I think they will change it back retroactively in the movie. So talking about that would spoil things.
I think they changed it to give the season a more satisfying end (which they succeeded in, imo).
fun fact: victoria or 559 was actually a saintess fallen from grace because of possession. Which explains her zeal for cid after the betrayal of her religion. This is not a spoiler, this is her character profile that should have been introduced in this volume but the anime cant be bothered to do that.

Jokes aside, Eminence in Shadow is good fun, the super tongue-in-cheek kind. And that’s fine, but Mushoku’s second season was a completely different beast. It’s like comparing a five star chef’s cooking to fresh, right out of the kitchen McDonald’s.
You get a craving for some McDonald’s sometimes and when you get it, it just hits the spot. But that shit’s not a gourmet meal by a long shot.

Im hyped for the movie and S3. ngl i read a little bit of the light novels after s1 and wasn't feeling it. idk if its the format since light novels are written like bad fan fiction vs like a retail book (hard to explain but you know like the flow of the words and sentence structure kinda stuff) but the anime adaptation of the story was so good it changed my opinion on the series.
I find it interesting they seem to be doing this arc differently than the manga and LN, in terms of being back on Earth.

If you really think that none of the characters got good character development, go back to the first season of the show and compare how the characters acted compared to now. Also, there was some pretty heavy lore stuff in there as well as a metric ton of setup for the second cour (because, if you forgot, Mushoku Tensei’s Season 2 up to now was just one of two parts). Plus, Sylphie and Rudy are literally getting MARRIED, in the middle of the show.
Also, generic slice of life stuff is just weird to me. What other shows recently wrote plot developments and interactions similarly to Mushoku’s S2? No sarcasm, actually just curious. Cause I don’t think I’ve ever seen an “Erectile dysfunction caused by depression and lack of trust in other people” arc before in any show ever, let alone anime 💀
