  • When changing a verb to the past tense you normally add the suffix -ed to the end of the root word to make it past tense. However, the suffix -ed actually makes 3 sounds. Which sound does the -ed at the end of the verb make? In this video playlist you will learn the 3 sounds, see examples of how they are used and how to pronounce them correctly.
In this video the first -ed sound is the -ed in wanted. The "e" in the suffix is a short "e" sound and the "d" makes the normal "d" sound. There is a rule for using this special sound: If the root word ENDS with a "t" or "d" it usually makes the -ed in wanted sound.
    Ex.
lanD----- landed (👂🏻 sounds like short e & d sound)
painT---- painted (👂🏻 sounds like short e & d sound)
