Kevin McBride great to hear that Kevin, also, can I ask, would you be interested to see videos related to WordPress How to's? Or would #SEO related videos be more interesting?
you are amazing.....i havent been able to do this because hostgator updated their website and i was having problems....you made it easy. My friend thank you. steven
Hi, thanks for the help. The video was awesome. I have a question relative to your changes for security reasons due to hacking. Should one go through the same security changes for their regular wordpress installation (e.g. not the subdomain component)?
***** absolutely, because your WP installation (whether in root/ or / subdomain) has the same files which an attacker may penetrate. And always try to utilize web hosting One Click Apps (I'm sure your web hosting also provides this in 2015) and do regular automatic backups because #WordPress is very popular so thus many hacking scripts are written for WordPress (and sent to the cyberspace to automatically find loopholes in WP). Now you are here leaving a constructive comments and liking the videos. Here's what I currently have on *wp-config.php* file: //Disable File Editing, and when you want to make changes, then perhaps you can comment it out and then undo the comment once the edits are performed define('DISALLOW_FILE_MODS', true); // Let WP update itself TRUE OR FALSE OR MINOR. It is always a good idea to let WP update itself because there may be a security issue and WP team patches this, but, you may be doing other things and may not be aware of the new security issues define('WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', true); //This will also disable auto update plugins and themes define('AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED', true); You can also use all of the above in your wp-config.php file, or just pick which of these may be of appropriate for your installation (I commented them for you) however *Important* = make sure you first backup your WP installation and DB at minimum whenever you are modifying anything on WordPress. If you are on apache and can create .htaccess file for it, then, you can insert this: order allow,deny deny from all # Make sure it is above the default directives WordPress automatically creates. I hope this answers your question. And thank you for sharing these videos
Excellent video. Thank you. I got to the stage where I put the sub domain in the search bar but Google can not find it ... How do I know where I went wrong? I did everything according to video. Thanks
n you don't need to see this as something wrong, meaning, Google will take its time to index your new subdomain. The only thing you can do to speed this up is two things. 1 submit your website to Google Webmaster Tools, 2 use social media profiles to share the URI of the subdomain (which #Google will also follow) thus index. The only thing I can think of is, if you have somehow disallowed Google to crawl the subdomain (this would be very unlikely). But if you can further clarify as to what the issue you are facing with Google, then I am more than confident that I can answer it?
Hi RankYa, Thank you for the awesome videos you make. I have one question: When I was installing WP in my domain as well as subdomain, I noticed you had the file cgi-bin already there in your domain/subdomain folder in the cPanel. However, I had no files there by default. What is this file for actually and is it okay that file was missing from the cPanel for me? Thank you!
Hello Martina, The "cgi-bin" directory is the location you will use to store your Perl or compiled script files. Any files you place in it will be treated as programs (instead of HTMLpages or images), and will be "run" by the server instead of displayed normally. Easiest way to explain this is 'Think of this folder as a place where you would place scripts (think of it as programs like Windows .exe Programs) which the server will run when you call upon it' Basically, don't worry about this folder (whether in root/or/subdomain) as long as your site is accessible when you request your domain (and pages) then all is good. Here are sample script codes: ittc.ku.edu/~jhuan/EECS647_F13/cgicode/ I hardly used or worked for clients who used scripts through cgi-bin folder. Basically, don't worry if your server setup has (or has not) any files within this folder
+Jennifer Alnithami I'd like to do that Jennifer, show things never seen on internet before, like #Google Analytics insights that we all can understand and use www.rankya.com/google-analytics-tips-2016/ and content sharing with a flare of backlink formula to follow www.rankya.com/how-to-get-backlinks-to-your-website/ and *How to* Create the Perfect Blog Post www.rankya.com/how-to-write-a-perfect-blog-post/ And the best thing #RankYa fans can do is, simply share my RUclips videos and blog posts so that I can continue creating useful #WordPress and *search engine optimization techniques that are easy to use* thank you for learning with me
Thanks for the comment Anthony, please do tell us what type of videos you would like to see on #RankYa #RUclips channel. For example: #Google #SEO #AdWords #Facebook #Analytics #RUclips Optimization #WordPress #WooCommerce #Adobe Illustrator ? your feedback is much appreciated
Hi, very nice and detailed tutorial, could use louder voice tho. A question here, I've tried all the steps and when I put the subdomain.domain.com/wp-admin on the browser to install it for the first time, it doesn't load anything, just white blankie, what could be the mistake?
Bonar Tirtananda hard to tell what the mistake could be, you should however sift through codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress it is the best way to learn more about WordPress and how to work with it for your own needs. Let us know how you go;
rankyaseoservices I think it was due to some error when uploading wordpress into my subdomain folder (there was some timeouts), can I reverse it by deleting all the uploaded files and just re-upload everything again?
Bonar Tirtananda yes, absolutely you can and should (because from what you describe I can confidently tell you that WordPress installation will cause problems. So basically, create your database with user and password first, then upload a clean install to your subdomain, then change the settings in wp-config-sample.php and rename that file to wp-config.php . for extra security, make sure you choose strong password, and utilize the salt encryption (you can see the URI for that in wp-config.php) also, change the default database table prefix to something that is not default wp_ could be xyzisbetter then you should be good to go, if not come back here and we'll try to assist you to get your WordPress site up and running;
rankyaseoservices Hey, was on vacation. So after I got back on it again, I noticed that not only the subdomain shows blank page, now my main domain got wordpress re-installed. So I had to put new ID and password, and every single thing is gone, like a fresh install. Any idea on that?
Great to hear that Stanley; I am also working on new videos which should be uploaded within couple of weeks showing easy to implement tips and tricks for making #Google rank your website. Also, your choice of using #WordPress is very smart because I believe it is the best CMS online. Thank you for your visit and comment Stanley;
rankyaseoservices Hi..just wondering if you have any tutorials on how to configure feedburner for email subscription, and also tables and rows.. any info will help very much.. and how do i access other video tutorials via tube or ur site online.. best regards.. stan
Hi Stanley, I do not have specific tutorial on this but I dig around for you and found this URL for you to check out if you haven't already support.google.com/feedburner/answer/78982?hl=en I then logged in to my feedburner and selected > Publicize (on the left hand side you have "email subscriptions" press on that) and then you have to activate it. Simply read through the information as it seems it is straight forward. As for the tables and rows (can you explain what you mean please?) let me know if this information works it out for you, talk soon;
Do you have a video showing how to install WordPress on a SubDomain (staging.mysite.com) and also at the same time have it installed on the main domain (www.mysite.com)?
thanks a lot...it helped a lot tho the audio isn't loud, i have got a problem with my filezilla, never used it , just downloaded it but is not connecting to the server...could anyone please help?
This is usually caused by host details, try adding your site without www or even check the IP of your domain www.yougetsignal.com/tools/web-sites-on-web-server/ just add your domain name in that box it will show you its IP and use that IP for host name to see what happens
thanks Rankya, i resolved it... i have got another problem...im done installing wordpress on my cpanel...but i tried redirecting the main website to the subdomain website but its not redirecting, what could be the problem
I am using a subdomain to convert my HTML site to WordPress but then once the new version is complete in the WoprdPress subdomain do you have any advice or what to do to switch it to the main url in place of the old html page? Also will the one click add for WordPress work for subdomains or is this the only way?
Before you make the switch, you need to understand how #WordPress permalinks work codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks because you can setup custom permalinks to be similar to your old URL structure. You can also achieve this through .htaccess file for subdirectory # BEGIN WordPress RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /subdirectory/ RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /subdirectory/index.php [L] # END WordPress If your site is small, you can simply use 301 redirection (for example.com/mypage.html 301 to example.com/mypage/ if your new URL structure is without .html etc. (or you can even avoid this (IF your site has no backlinks)) if no backlinks, then simply update your site to be wordpress, install XML sitemap plugin, and re-submit XML sitemap to Google search console and Google will update things accordingly
I went through the steps up to wp-config, adding the custom text in and when I checked my subdomain, all it said was "Error establishing a database connection". Anyone know a way to resolve this?
It could actually be to do with your web server, if you checked wp-config.php and everything matches with the database you created, then, it is more than likely that your server is down
Dear Team, Thanks for nice tutorial but I think all the creation of database and changing the filenames have been done now a days automaticall by wordpress(m not sure asking you) as I have seen it may be. My question and problem is I have created a subdomain subdomain.mydomain.com but when I installed wordpress ( as I am a newbee) I don't know what happend it created a site network and the url is like "subdomain.mydomain.com/wp" I want to make it like "subdomain.mydomain.com" and I want to make it seperate from the my sites network admin thing. Your help is appreciated. Thanks sir.
This sounds like an option while installing the WordPress (it should give you an option to install in a particular directory (or name it to anything you want (sound like you named it *wp* thus its installed there)) simply delete that installation and re-try, while keeping in mind that, it is rather better to create *category* and thus place content as part of your site. For example: exampledomain.com/mycategory instead of mycategory.exampledomain.com
I have the same problem as mentioned below. My subdomain redirects me to the main domain. I tried the solutions with editing wp-config and htacces- I don't know how go back to the subdomain installation though. Interestingly enough, it worked fine for an hour or so, and suddenly this error started to occur.
+RankYa I set the redirection to the subfolder mydomain/blog/ on my server. As I mentioned, it seemed to work ok at the beginning and something changed without basically any reason.
+Paweł Kubis hello Pawel, this sounds like a strange issue, and it could just as well be nothing wrong with the setup. Let me explain: if your browser cache and or DNS settings on your local computer are mixed up, then this actually could show you as to there is that redirection problem. However, if you were to use another computer, then you may be able to access everything without any issues. I recently had a similar problem, and when I access the website using a (smartphone which used a different connection to internet) I saw that all was okay, so then all I did was to reset my router at home, and everything went back to original state. Try this above because it actually sounds similar to what I experienced. *Once again, try the above method first* then if that didn't resolve your ability to view the subdomain, then, this is what needs to be in your root .htaccess file as it will redirect all requests to subdomain (let me know the outcome) RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?example\.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ subdomain.example.com/ [L,R=301]
my boss has a website but it is zoomla , we want to switch it over to WP, i created a staging subdomain for this and want to upload wordpress....will that work? we don't want to change hosting
I have two subfolders in a domain. I want to move each folder to a new separate domain. I had someone set each up for me. I want to make some changes, but I can't see them in my wordpress main root. Do I need to add wordpress so I can work on the changes or move them to separate WP Domains.
+dcwhiting1 this depends on what you previously had in those 2 folders? Also, think of WP install as a separate entity, so even if you just moved those 2 folders in a typical WP installation, you can't access them in the normal sense like static sites, however, if those 2 folders are in public_html then you can link to them and use them like that. Perhaps more clarification on your part will result on more useful insights from my end, till then
+dcwhiting1 great to hear, now I am working on a Full Detailed WordPress Essentials Course for RankYa's #RUclips channel (should be completed within 3 weeks) I would love your feedback on the new course when uploaded, till then take care (also be in the know knowing your choice to go for WordPress is just smart because WP is _The_ _Best_ Content Management System (and its just getting better with each update)
Mr Enigma Database connection error from WP installation usually occurs due to wp-config.php (so the default file must be renamed *From* w-config-sample.php *To* wp-config.php) user name and password mismatch, meaning, that file must have the correct *DB* name, user associated with that database and that users password to login to that *DB* double check and you should be good to go. Let me know how you go please
Mr Enigma I had the same problem and it turned out to be that I forgot the prefix on my user name when I added it to the wp-config.php file. The username in the database is "xxprefix_youruname"
rankyaseoservices That was the issue - I'm not entirely used to the username being case sensitive. I'm aware of the passwords sensitivity but I wasn't being character specific with the username. Issue resolved; thank you very much
i have also done all steps properly but the "subdmain.rootdomain.com' shows 'index of' and this line "Apache Server at subdmain.rootdomain.com Port 80' what do i do now
Help. I am very new to Wordpress..I folloewd the instructions however after I save the wp_config.php file and go to access the sub domain URL I get a message that the page is in a loop...in chrome. In IE I am getting 500 page can not be displayed and Safari can't open it. I triied deleting the wp files and uploaded them again and it didn't work. Any suggestions please? Thank you
romaniahome hi there, you know what? I think I should just create a brand new course showcasing how to install WordPress step by step as well as many other things you can do with WordPress. Anyhow, this sounds like 500 internal server error (nothing to worry about, but hard to workout exactly what the issue is) I would encourage you to first, triple check the wp-config.php especially the DB name, user and password and make sure that there aren't any empty spaces (very easy to overlook this, because it happens to me as well) let me know how you go please
hi, thank you for relying, I checked for spaces, i entered them again.. there are no extra spaces still getting the same message:"This webpage has a redirect loop" in details it says: "Error code: ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS"
hi there the domain host support team helped me out, they said it was due to incorrect .htaccess in public_html, not sure what they changed, thank you again.
+Priscilla Smith this could be due to many reasons, but I will share with you few solutions. If you can login to the dashboard of that subdomain installation, then go to: *Settings* > *General* > WordPress Address (URL) *Settings* > *General* > Site Address (URL) Make sure both match the subdomain name you are using. If that didn't work: then: in your subdomain installation, there is file called wp-config.php add these in there define('WP_HOME','subdomain.example.com'); define('WP_SITEURL','subdomain.example.com'); Try both above first, as it may just fix it. If not, you can place this in the .htaccesss file that is in the _root_ folder (usually called public_html RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / RedirectMatch 301 ^/subdomain/(.*)$ subdomain.example.com/$1Let me know how you go, will get it going don't worry, till then;
+RankYa Thank you!! The first idea worked like a charm. Question, do you have a tutorial on how to explain your other suggestions? Eventually, I will need to point my subdomain (public_html/new/) to point to my root domain(public_html). NEW.mydomain.com >> WWW.mydomain.com Not a clue on how to do that and cannot find any good tutorials. Any info you have will greatly help me out. I've watched so many tutorials and your is by far the best I've come across. Thank you for making this!!!
+Priscilla Smith This could be accomplished through .htaccess file, but I would strongly encourage you to consider many implications of this (particularly for #Google rankings) I am now working on finalizing the new courses introduction videos, but if you can tell me the logic behind this, I will create .htaccess file directive so that this redirection happens. I am finding it rather confusing, because if you are planning to redirect subdomain to main domain, why not just use the main domain now (but I guess you have a good reason for this) let me know, then I will create a htaccess directive for this (also while here, I have video about 301 redirection, that may be of interest to you)
I created my site on a localhost and was advised to migrate that onto a subdomain. Then point the root public_html to the subdomain (public_html/new) Totally willing to hear your suggestion if you advise to not do it that way!
+Priscilla Smith Hello Priscilla, that logic I wouldn't follow because there is absolutely no need for it and you will only waste time doing that (although you are learning great insights about managing websites which is great). So it seems you are creating a new website and want to make sure that everything is perfect before you launch it? If so, just install it on public_html then open your header.php file (wp-content > themes > yourcurrentthemename > header.php) And place this code in between Then just continue working on your site, knowing that Google won't index it (I keep saying Google because other search engines don't really matter for the success of your new website, as they follow different algorithms and catering for other search engines assures you cater not for Google (if that makes sense). Anyhow, this insight I shared with you is what I would do as it will save time and energy and also you can see exactly how you site looks like while you are creating it and optimizing it, so you can forget about all these silly subdomain redirection etc. What do you think?
Your Tutorial really helped. i will be indebted if i dont subscribe. please do you have a video like this on how to migrate a wp site from wamp server local host to a live server and vice versa Thanks so much
Esan Oladimeji Hi Esan, I don't have a video as such, but I can tell you that the question you ask most probably will require installation through "Database" backups. But remember that you can create private sections on your own hosting (perhaps a subdomain) and then run tests there. That's what I do and now I hardly use Xampp wamp etc.
Very helpful video this. What are your thoughts in regards to using a sub domain rather than a new URL? For example, domain name www.seoservices.com and subdomain www.seoservices/for small businesses.com or for ranking purposes would it be smarter to purchase www.seoservicesforsmallbusinesses.com? Have you made a video where a landing page is made with a URL and then other pages created and internally linked to each other? This may seem an easy question task, but maybe very helpful to some of us followers. Thx in advance : )
David Gathercole I would always choose the domain seoservicesforsmallbusiness.com and not use subdomains for this task. Due to the fact domain registration and hosting is very affordable, and also, simplicity of ranking keywords in the domain. I am actually considering creating a short course which shows step by step of setting up an profitable online business in less than 48 hours which also details choosing domain name for quick ranking. So always choose the main domain with keywords and on page SEO for quick rankings (keep in mind that the site can also be used for backlinking, means that your investment will be worth it, because of targeted web traffic and quick rankings, as well as backlinking to your other sites from your new site);
+David Gathercole Hello David, always choose domain whenever you can instead of subdomain. As you know, finding the most profitable keywords can be done through "exploring the Google search results" to see who is advertising for particular term (and how many advertisers are there) then researching bit more. Anyhow I will create a short course, its in the pipeline I promise, just have to tidy up few things first but shouldn't be long. Talk soon
Hi Rankya, I followed all the steps, only to get http error 500 when i load my subdomain url, i have deleted htaccess and installed new one from the link you described in your other video, didnt work. pls assist.
Tricky to know why this would happen, because the default .htaccess file should have fixed the 500 internal error message. I need more information to remedy this. How did you install the WordPress installation (as in One Click App or manually) Which web hosting you are using (GoDaddy, Hostgator or others) Where on the server is the subdomain located (in public_html or above) What language is the site built upon? You could double check character encoding in wp-config.php file (which is within the subdomain installation) or even modify it there and re-save the wp-config.php file I would encourage you to uninstall the installation, delete the folder through file manager, and try again, if not good, then, comment back (in either case don't worry too much about 500 server errors as they are easy fix
Hi, I have followed your tutorials, everything went well until i got an ERROE 403 when i put my subdomain. please help. i counter checked my details "MSQ" user name and password like 5 times. i renamed the "wp-config.php" but i still get the error "you dont have permission to access/ on this server" what could be the problem?
+zamzam AH this sounds like a permission issue, here's what I can think of. Login to your web hosting and browse into file manager and then locate the folder in which your new WP resides in (even when you create subdomain, you should see a folder with the same name) right click on the folder and make sure the permissions is set to 755 try this. Also, you shouldn't rename the wp-config.php (you should rename the wp sample config) so basically, your folder must have a file called wp-config.php
+zamzam AH hi ZamZam, I believe this will fix your issues: Login to Cpanel and browse into File Manager and find public_html > SubdomainFolder > .htaccess (open that and remove any lines that says "Order Deny Allow, Deny from all") and also, make sure that your main .htaccess file does not disallow directory browsing specific to that folder. Do this and if you can't get it going (contact me and I will take a look at it for you)
Hi, I've just had a bad experience - hired an IT help from fiverr with the order to install a WP theme as a subdomains (my brother use to do these IT stuff for me but he is away on 'no internet' area - so cannot help me). Long story short - this "IT" have no idea what I meant by: please install a WP theme as a subdomain, he ended up removed installation of WP of two fine and running websites. So I'm crying now. Is there anyway to recover from this disaster??? Thanks
Let's act on this asap (because if you do have a backup we can salvage your site) if you do not have back up, then perhaps Google cache servers may, in either case, contact me through www.rankya.com.au/ as soon as possible
Hey Finaly someone using Other than Godaddy, Crazy Domains are in New Zealand I also use Godaddy but Needed .co.nz, to Target NZ ppl [KIWIS!] so Easy to follow when using same cpanel although Principle is same Crazy cpanel is faster & Cleaner to work in [for-my liking] Thanks!
You use filezilla but never show how to set it up to the website , so lnone of it worked for me. I lthink it sucks. How about a RUclips how to for filezilla now.
I think you should try the techniques in this video and just upload /wordpress/whateverishere in to a folder within public_html/yoursubdomain/ ruclips.net/video/TUnECAIpXAg/видео.html because once you already created your database, and then upload the entire WordPress folder structure to your subdomain AND visit yoursubdomain.example.com you should see installation steps which will ask you to populate the details. Try this, if no go, comment back and I'll help you install it
+The Photo Booth Chick yes installing #WordPress on a subdomain can be tricky if you have another WordPress installed on the same root folder. However, you should use this type of setup only in very rare circumstances anyhow. So simply continue blogging from the public_html root folder knowing that you can use categories to group related content anyway.
I was really having a hard time getting my Wordpress website up. Your step-by-step video helped me set it up.
This was the MOST helpful tutorial I've ever come across, thank you so much!
Awesome tut! Very easy to follow!!!! I'm a beginner and I had no problems following your very precise instructions... Thank you!!!!!
Thank you for this tutorial. Very thorough and easy to follow!

Either would be fine.
This was great! I have been trying to do this for DAYS and none of the tutorials made sense. Thank you so much!
Worked like a charm, I like the extra security tips at the end too thanks!
+David Hillard Lovely to hear David, will be updating RUclips videos very soon as I am back in action now
Thank you very much for your tutorial. Your explanation is clear and easy to follow.
you are amazing.....i havent been able to do this because hostgator updated their website and i was having problems....you made it easy. My friend thank you. steven
Great to hear Steven
Thank you. This saved me so much time figuring how to do this.
Worked perfectly, tutorial was very easy to follow.
Thanks!
//Disable File Editing, and when you want to make changes, then perhaps you can comment it out and then undo the comment once the edits are performed
define('DISALLOW_FILE_MODS', true);
// Let WP update itself TRUE OR FALSE OR MINOR. It is always a good idea to let WP update itself because there may be a security issue and WP team patches this, but, you may be doing other things and may not be aware of the new security issues
define('WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', true);
//This will also disable auto update plugins and themes
define('AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED', true);
You can also use all of the above in your wp-config.php file, or just pick which of these may be of appropriate for your installation (I commented them for you) however *Important* = make sure you first backup your WP installation and DB at minimum whenever you are modifying anything on WordPress.
If you are on apache and can create .htaccess file for it, then, you can insert this:
order allow,deny
deny from all
# Make sure it is above the default directives WordPress automatically creates. I hope this answers your question. And thank you for sharing these videos
Love your tutorial. Thanks you very much.

Thank you for spreading the word about #RankYa #SEO Nawazish 👍🏽
Thanks very much. This video helped me a lot.
Thanku so so very much,explained in detailed ,helped me to follow easily and i succeeded in installing.
Hi RankYa,
Thank you for the awesome videos you make. I have one question: When I was installing WP in my domain as well as subdomain, I noticed you had the file cgi-bin already there in your domain/subdomain folder in the cPanel. However, I had no files there by default. What is this file for actually and is it okay that file was missing from the cPanel for me? Thank you!
Hello Martina,
The "cgi-bin" directory is the location you will use to store your Perl or compiled script files. Any files you place in it will be treated as programs (instead of HTMLpages or images), and will be "run" by the server instead of displayed normally.
Easiest way to explain this is 'Think of this folder as a place where you would place scripts (think of it as programs like Windows .exe Programs) which the server will run when you call upon it'
Basically, don't worry about this folder (whether in root/or/subdomain) as long as your site is accessible when you request your domain (and pages) then all is good. Here are sample script codes:
ittc.ku.edu/~jhuan/EECS647_F13/cgicode/
I hardly used or worked for clients who used scripts through cgi-bin folder. Basically, don't worry if your server setup has (or has not) any files within this folder
thank you sir !! Greetings from Greece
THANKS!! You really help me a lot! just wish that the audio could be louder :)
Very very helpful. Thank you.
Very helpful video. Thanks!
Voila!!!!, Great!!! Excellent lesson thank you very much!
Great to hear it Janis, I like to use the term "Voila" alot within my videos as well :-)
You showed me some things I had never seen before!
+Jennifer Alnithami I'd like to do that Jennifer, show things never seen on internet before, like #Google Analytics insights that we all can understand and use www.rankya.com/google-analytics-tips-2016/ and content sharing with a flare of backlink formula to follow www.rankya.com/how-to-get-backlinks-to-your-website/ and *How to* Create the Perfect Blog Post www.rankya.com/how-to-write-a-perfect-blog-post/
And the best thing #RankYa fans can do is, simply share my RUclips videos and blog posts so that I can continue creating useful #WordPress and *search engine optimization techniques that are easy to use* thank you for learning with me
Love this tutorial! Thanks a lot! :)
Works like a charm.Thanks alot.

Bonar Tirtananda hard to tell what the mistake could be, you should however sift through codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress it is the best way to learn more about WordPress and how to work with it for your own needs. Let us know how you go;
rankyaseoservices Ok I'll look into it, thanks!
rankyaseoservices I think it was due to some error when uploading wordpress into my subdomain folder (there was some timeouts), can I reverse it by deleting all the uploaded files and just re-upload everything again?
Bonar Tirtananda yes, absolutely you can and should (because from what you describe I can confidently tell you that WordPress installation will cause problems. So basically, create your database with user and password first, then upload a clean install to your subdomain, then change the settings in wp-config-sample.php and rename that file to wp-config.php . for extra security, make sure you choose strong password, and utilize the salt encryption (you can see the URI for that in wp-config.php) also, change the default database table prefix to something that is not default wp_ could be xyzisbetter then you should be good to go, if not come back here and we'll try to assist you to get your WordPress site up and running;
rankyaseoservices Hey, was on vacation. So after I got back on it again, I noticed that not only the subdomain shows blank page, now my main domain got wordpress re-installed. So I had to put new ID and password, and every single thing is gone, like a fresh install. Any idea on that?
Great video tutorial.. Got it going...
Great to hear that Stanley; I am also working on new videos which should be uploaded within couple of weeks showing easy to implement tips and tricks for making #Google rank your website. Also, your choice of using #WordPress is very smart because I believe it is the best CMS online. Thank you for your visit and comment Stanley;
rankyaseoservices Hi..just wondering if you have any tutorials on how to configure feedburner for email subscription, and also tables and rows.. any info will help very much.. and how do i access other video tutorials via tube or ur site online.. best regards.. stan
Hi Stanley, I do not have specific tutorial on this but I dig around for you and found this URL for you to check out if you haven't already support.google.com/feedburner/answer/78982?hl=en I then logged in to my feedburner and selected > Publicize (on the left hand side you have "email subscriptions" press on that) and then you have to activate it. Simply read through the information as it seems it is straight forward. As for the tables and rows (can you explain what you mean please?) let me know if this information works it out for you, talk soon;
Do you have a video showing how to install WordPress on a SubDomain (staging.mysite.com) and also at the same time have it installed on the main domain (www.mysite.com)?
Thank a ton. Awesome tutorial
Thank you also, can I ask, what made you decide to install WordPress on subdomain?
Thank You!. For developing & testing before going live. Not sure if that's the right way to do it.
Well that's a good practice indeed, thanks for the feedback
Fantastic, thank you
Thanks!
Great video,thank you very much :)
Thank you
Thx Bro, you helped me out.
Thank you so much!!!
thanks a lot...it helped a lot tho the audio isn't loud, i have got a problem with my filezilla, never used it , just downloaded it but is not connecting to the server...could anyone please help?
You can also achieve this through .htaccess file for subdirectory
# BEGIN WordPress
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /subdirectory/
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /subdirectory/index.php [L]
# END WordPress
If your site is small, you can simply use 301 redirection (for example.com/mypage.html 301 to example.com/mypage/ if your new URL structure is without .html etc. (or you can even avoid this (IF your site has no backlinks)) if no backlinks, then simply update your site to be wordpress, install XML sitemap plugin, and re-submit XML sitemap to Google search console and Google will update things accordingly
Thank you!
thank you very much for this wonderful tutorial ...subscribe
Thanks a lot!
thank you. worth every krugerrand ;)
I cant seem to install wordpress after have done all the code changes. I keep running into an error 403. Any help?
I went through the steps up to wp-config, adding the custom text in and when I checked my subdomain, all it said was "Error establishing a database connection". Anyone know a way to resolve this?
It could actually be to do with your web server, if you checked wp-config.php and everything matches with the database you created, then, it is more than likely that your server is down
I had the same problem.
I found a space in one of the copied text I pasted. I deleted the space and voila it worked.
I just had exactly the same problem caused by a copied space. Removed and fixed. :)
For example: exampledomain.com/mycategory instead of mycategory.exampledomain.com
thank you!
I have the same problem as mentioned below. My subdomain redirects me to the main domain. I tried the solutions with editing wp-config and htacces- I don't know how go back to the subdomain installation though. Interestingly enough, it worked fine for an hour or so, and suddenly this error started to occur.
+Paweł Kubis you could check the *Web Hosting Manager > Domains > Redirects* to see if there are any redirection going on there?
+RankYa
I set the redirection to the subfolder mydomain/blog/ on my server.
*Once again, try the above method first* then if that didn't resolve your ability to view the subdomain, then, this is what needs to be in your root .htaccess file as it will redirect all requests to subdomain (let me know the outcome)
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?example\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ subdomain.example.com/ [L,R=301]
my boss has a website but it is zoomla , we want to switch it over to WP, i created a staging subdomain for this and want to upload wordpress....will that work? we don't want to change hosting
Yes, this is perfectly suited for this case
Thanks A Lot Man
I have two subfolders in a domain.
Perhaps more clarification on your part will result on more useful insights from my end, till then
Just those few words has given me the answers I need. You have resolved my issues.
Thank for getting back to me so quickly.
+dcwhiting1 great to hear, now I am working on a Full Detailed WordPress Essentials Course for RankYa's #RUclips channel (should be completed within 3 weeks) I would love your feedback on the new course when uploaded, till then take care (also be in the know knowing your choice to go for WordPress is just smart because WP is _The_ _Best_ Content Management System (and its just getting better with each update)
woah, thanks
Somehow, I followed the instruction to the finest letter; but I received an Error establishing a database connection.
Issue resolved; thank you very much
i have also done all steps properly but the "subdmain.rootdomain.com' shows 'index of' and this line "Apache Server at subdmain.rootdomain.com Port 80'
what do i do now
That means that WordPress is not installed properly, so when you visit public_html/subdmain/ what do you see in here?
Followed everything exactly. However my subdomain seems to redirect to my main domain. (except images are missing... )
+Priscilla Smith this could be due to many reasons, but I will share with you few solutions.
If you can login to the dashboard of that subdomain installation, then go to:
*Settings* > *General* > WordPress Address (URL)
*Settings* > *General* > Site Address (URL)
Make sure both match the subdomain name you are using.
If that didn't work: then:
in your subdomain installation, there is file called wp-config.php add these in there
define('WP_HOME','subdomain.example.com');
define('WP_SITEURL','subdomain.example.com');
Try both above first, as it may just fix it. If not, you can place this in the .htaccesss file that is in the _root_ folder (usually called public_html
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RedirectMatch 301 ^/subdomain/(.*)$ subdomain.example.com/$1Let me know how you go, will get it going don't worry, till then;
+RankYa Thank you!! The first idea worked like a charm.
Question, do you have a tutorial on how to explain your other suggestions? Eventually, I will need to point my subdomain (public_html/new/) to point to my root domain(public_html).
NEW.mydomain.com >> WWW.mydomain.com
Not a clue on how to do that and cannot find any good tutorials.
Then point the root public_html to the subdomain (public_html/new)
Totally willing to hear your suggestion if you advise to not do it that way!
If so, just install it on public_html then open your header.php file (wp-content > themes > yourcurrentthemename > header.php)
And place this code in between
Then just continue working on your site, knowing that Google won't index it (I keep saying Google because other search engines don't really matter for the success of your new website, as they follow different algorithms and catering for other search engines assures you cater not for Google (if that makes sense).
David Gathercole I would always choose the domain seoservicesforsmallbusiness.com and not use subdomains for this task. Due to the fact domain registration and hosting is very affordable, and also, simplicity of ranking keywords in the domain. I am actually considering creating a short course which shows step by step of setting up an profitable online business in less than 48 hours which also details choosing domain name for quick ranking. So always choose the main domain with keywords and on page SEO for quick rankings (keep in mind that the site can also be used for backlinking, means that your investment will be worth it, because of targeted web traffic and quick rankings, as well as backlinking to your other sites from your new site);
Thanks Tolga. Hope you have time to make a video as mentioned in your reply.
Talk soon
Thx Tolga...u r the best mate
I LOVE YOU!
+Daia Handabaka I love you too
You are the best, thank you so much for the help ;) and your accent is pretty cool !
How did you install the WordPress installation (as in One Click App or manually)
Which web hosting you are using (GoDaddy, Hostgator or others)
Where on the server is the subdomain located (in public_html or above)
What language is the site built upon?
You could double check character encoding in wp-config.php file (which is within the subdomain installation) or even modify it there and re-save the wp-config.php file
I would encourage you to uninstall the installation, delete the folder through file manager, and try again, if not good, then, comment back (in either case don't worry too much about 500 server errors as they are easy fix
Hi, I have followed your tutorials, everything went well until i got an ERROE 403 when i put my subdomain. please help. i counter checked my details "MSQ" user name and password like 5 times. i renamed the "wp-config.php"
but i still get the error "you dont have permission to access/ on this server"
what could be the problem?
+zamzam AH this sounds like a permission issue, here's what I can think of. Login to your web hosting and browse into file manager and then locate the folder in which your new WP resides in (even when you create subdomain, you should see a folder with the same name) right click on the folder and make sure the permissions is set to 755 try this. Also, you shouldn't rename the wp-config.php (you should rename the wp sample config) so basically, your folder must have a file called wp-config.php
+zamzam AH i changed permission to 755 but still giving me the same error,
+zamzam AH please can i give you my Cpanel login details and see what the problem could be?
Thank you #RankYa :)
Thanks Jijo :-)

Try this, if no go, comment back and I'll help you install it
No way... I can't do this.
Absolutely! Thanks for responding!
Awesome tutorial, thanks so much!
Thank You so much !
