Great addition to the story, some of you guys are just being babies about Charmander. Its an AU, accept the alternatives and enjoy rather than nitpicking what YOU would do instead. Thats the most major reason most complaining can't make their own story worth watching because you'd be too beholden to canon and cliché. Enjoy the algorithim fuel⛽️

Aye, I'm enjoying this alt story, even though Ash doesn't get his iconic scene with Charmander in the rain. I started out my Pokemon experience on Pokemon Yellow (not Blue/Red/Green :P ). Alt Ash doesn't need Charmander or his teenage middle stage and third stage angst issues. Also, I am loving the post-gen 1 moves: Venusaur's Frenzy plant, Blastoise has Hydro Cannon, and Charizard Blast Burn are still my favorites in Go (Swampert is better for Hydro Cannon though).
I’m just going to give my thoughts on this, sure i’m sad that Ash isn’t getting his Charmander, but I personally think out of all the starters for Ash to get in this timeline, Squirtle would make the most sense and who knows maybe Squirtle could step up to the plate and become Ash’s ace. As for his Fire Type i’d say maybe Arcanine could work
I think this timeline is better Red coaches him instead of coaching and not being strict. Also Gary isn't a bully and basically just saying Ash won't amount to anything instead of trying to have practice battles which in regular timeline he never battles Ash til the Johto league. I think in this timeline Ash would make it further in the indigo league at least up to if not beat the elite four he might still lose to Red and in this timeline I think he would at least be on par with Gary instead of far behind and slowed down every episode like with Brock, Misty and team rocket but, mainly Brock and Misty. This timeline he is slowed down by Red in a good way that being to train. I also think instead of goofing off before the league which he would have way more time to train unlike in regular timeline having a few months to train I believe 4 months he would have at least have a little bit more time but, still run an errands to run for Prof. Oak while he would have intense training and he would whine less and be less cocky with his battling style losing Charmander and I assume Bulbasaur he would have time to train and not deal with Charizard disobeying all though Red helps Pikachu obey Ash faster so I think if Ash got Charizard Red will help Ash out and him being better maybe Charizard would listen instead of disobeying. Ash's Charizard only disobeyed cuz he was immature and for a whole list of reasons like Charizard fears of being abandoned, Ash telling Charmeleon to go easy on a Parris and the list goes on cuz he wasn't a good trainer and never had a connection with Charizard til much later. Also this timeline is much darker than the original timeline cuz Ash gets burned or anyone gets electrocuted or burned they are stunned and its cartoony how they act this one they scream in pain and it nearly kills them. Wow I actually like this I don't think Ash will catch Squirtle though it could be a chance that he does like a 1% chance cuz Ash heads straight to Saffron instead of straight to Vermillion.
Disappointed about Charmander (since I wanted Ash to keep his powerhouse of a Charizard. But being a more competent trainer with it in this). But all in all, a good episode. Good work on it!
The writing and ingenuity of this concept is remarkable! Honestly, this wouldve been a better anime series than the one we got. It wouldve connected the game to kids who played the game before the anime came out. And it wouldve made for a great show! Excellent job. Excited to keep watching the rest of the series

Why did Charmander go to AJ instead of Ash? You could have had Ash run off and save Charmander first, before AJ. Wouldn't mind if you rewrote the Charmander-part of the story, if not: which Fire-type is Ash going to get? Perhaps Ash gets an egg, either early-on, or the one from the Grampa Canyon, hatches it, and it contains a Magby, instead of a Togepi, and it becomes a Magmortar by the mid-to-end of Johto (since you mentioned Unova early)

I honestly think that AJ shouldn't have even joined Ash in the first place, Misty would have been a better pick honestly (though Red's presence makes her mellow out more); perhaps they meet her at the on the way to Viridian, and she's Ash's first battle, then she joins them whilst heading to Viridian, and they part-ways after that, then they reunite in Cerulean, and "chaos" ensues with her sisters, with Misty deciding to begin travelling, and joins Ash and Red; and Ash still gets Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle/Krabby (and Squirtle goes to Misty, and Krabby now gets the proper spotlight).

Quick Attacks. Electric moves could possibly be useful as a distraction if anything but it wasn't needed here? Iron Tail Foreshadowing? Or just a basic Tail Slap? Gosh the amount of things I can say in this world without it being interpreted as another attack is getting smaller and smaller. A "basic tail whack." ~~~ Charmander. The Tail risk. RED EYES! HOLY...
