Alli, I just want to let you know that I found your channel after watching ctfxc for a couple of months & found this video when I 1st started seriously considering studying abroad. I'm in my 1st year of college and I'm planning on busting my ass to come up with money. My program is only for 1 month in spain for $5300 but thanks to your video I'm pushing myself to do this. So from the bottom of my heart thank you.
Excellent video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you tried - Chiveard Winning Spanish Framework (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good one of a kind guide for learning how to speak spanish fast without the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got great results with it.
NO WAY! I've just discovered your channel and I was thinking how cool you were but knowing you've been living in my city... DAMN!! it makes you even cooler!
I am very close with my family and I was afraid to leave Charles, as well - but once you get there you realize that they support you no matter how far away you are and you can Skype every day and it feels like you're right there with them :)
I LOVE this!!! Study abroad is such an amazing experience! I spent 6 months in Helsinki, Finland last year and it really was the best months of my life! I learned so much about the world and made some of the most amazing friends from all over. There is just so much you can gain from experiencing a new culture. Everyone should do it, and don't be afraid to go to places that are less typical or aren't your first choices. They can really end up to be much more amazing that you would have thought!
I'm so so so glad you made this! I'm studying abroad this summer in London and as its getting closer, i am getting pretty nervous. I was literally just watching your old spain vlogs last week to make me feel better! This helped a ton, too. You're so positive about it all. So thanks again, Alli!! :)
I had the chance to travel to Spain in high school and I had always been interested in foreign language. I started to learn Spanish when I moved to Florida and I fell in love with it. Once I set foot in Spain, I fell in love the country as well :)
I remember watching Alli's vlogs in Spain while I was in high school and then taking the initiative and when I got to my university decided that i would study abroad at beautiful city that is Valencia and I actually did at the FSU Study Center and now advocate Studying abroad at my university here in Illinois. If your considering Studying abroad i promise you wont regret it.
As someone who is currently studying abroad, thank you for this! This would've been totally helpful when I got here - but I've gotten pretty used to it! I'm in the Netherlands, and I've been here since August and it's INCREDIBLE! If anyone else has a chance to do an exchange/study abroad do it! This is probably the best year ever!
DO NOT give up. It's even harder to do without support from your family, but if it's something you dream of doing and you know you will be unhappy if you don't try, then TRY! YOU CAN DO IT!
I totally agree with Alli. I am from Mexico and I lived/studied in USA for 1 year and in Italy for 4 months. I would also add that it is AWESOME to get out of your country for some time and learn about different cultures, history, places, traditions, food, etc, from other countries.
I went to Valencia this past summer to visit a new part of my family I just connected with and spent time with them in their home instead of them coming to the US. I gained some "new" cousins, a beautiful niece and nephew and a new set of grandparents that I already love like they've been in my life the whole time. Valencia will always have a special place in my heart and is now a new home in another part of the world.
I studied abroad in Italy this past Fall and you do such a great job of explaining what an incredible experience studying abroad is in this video! Grazie!
OMG Alli I love that you shared not only the experience on your daily vlogs, but then you encourage kids to broaden their options with practical advice! Good on ya lady! :-)
Alli I love that you did this! I absolutely LOVED studying abroad! I went Fall of 2010 to Italy for 3 months! I loved learning everything about Florence and all the side trips I got to go to! Mine luckily was just regular school tuition plus 1500 that I had been saving up for and paid by my self. It honestly was the best experience and I am always telling people to go no matter what!
I've been watching the CTFxC channel for over a year and I had no idea you were an international student! I'm from Canada and I'm in Sweden on an exchange for a year, and I agree - it is one of the coolest and enriched experiences ever!
I'm studying a year abroad in America right now, best choice I've made! I'm taking a high school year over seas, and being only 16 when I left, these seven months has forced me to mature so much and I'm so thankful for this entire experience. Unfortunately my mom was diagnosed with cancer, and that's been pretty hard to deal with, but my amazing new friends get me trough the hard days. Only two months until I leave now, bitter sweet! If you're thinking about studying abroad you really should :)
I'm really glad you became good friends with local people. I went to the University of Stirling which has an amazing exchange programme, and while I wasn't lucky enough to be able to afford study abroad, I met some great study abroads who are some of my best friends now, but also so many who didn't put any effort at all in to getting to know local people. Getting to know people in the country you're in is the best way to learn about that place.
Great video Alli, I'm a junior in HS (currently home schooled online) but in 9th grade I went to the Galapagos, and Ecuador with my school for 2 weeks, I honestly learned more spanish in those 2 weeks and have retained it then I did my 7th grade year. It wasnt a study abroad trip but I still learned so much, i cant imagine how much more you learn when you go to acutely learn
Hey Alli! I just wanted to say that even though I have watched almost all of the vlogs with you and Charles, this video right here has really inspired me to study abroad!! When I saw you studying in Spain in the vlogs, it was so exciting to see everything that you were doing! Spain was a huuuge part of your life... Charles even proposed to you in Spain!!! I just wanted to say thank you and I hope that my experiences with studying abroad can get anywhere close to how amazing yours was! :)
I'm from Ecuador and I studied abroad in 2010! I went to Orlando, Florida for 6 months and it was an AMAAAAZING experience!! One of the things I'll never forget and I wish I could do it all over again!
You know, I have been going back and forth for so long now about moving to England in order to pursue my dream of studying abroad (I'm a Norwegian), and you just really helped me make up my mind! What has stopped me so far was the money but what you said really made sense to me and I will not let that get in my way! Thank you SO MUCH!
I started watching the vlogs only about a year ago, but about 2 months ago I decided to go back to day 1 and watch all the vlogs that I missed. Right now I'm on day 217 and you're still studying abroad, but you're going to come home in about 9 days ;) It's really interesting to see your adventures in Spain!
Alli, you have completely changed my life. When I found you and Charles on the interwebs, and when I found out that you studied abroad on one of your YouNow broad casts, I new that I needed to change my grades and lifestyle to be able to do that one day. Today I got my report card back for my 4th quarter of my freshman year in high school, and I made the honor roll! I changed my 2.7 GPA to a 3.5 in a matter of a semester. Thank you so much. (:
the spain vlogs are some of my favourite ones! When I watched them I decided I wanted to study abroad and I've been saving since so I can go in my final year of my undergrad. The program for my major is only a month which I think might be easier for me then 3 months anyways. I'm almost there so thanks for inspiring me over the last two years Alli in so many ways :)
Hey Ali , am a Kuwaiti girl living in the UK!! I've been studying abroad for almost 4 years and a half!! It's a great experience and I love it!! English is not my first language but living helped me a lot with picking up the language .. Thanks for ur vidz .. Love you
I am French and spending my 3rd year as an exchange student in St Pete, Florida. When I applied I did not know where the college was exactly in Florida and when I found out, I thought about you guys right away ;) But anyway! A year as an exchange student forced me to get myself out there and meet people from all around the world and with whom I have so many common points. I am leaving in a month and a half and I can already say that this was the best year of my life so far. Do it if you can!
I go to an International School in a foreign country. This is possibly the best opportunity my parents have created for me, as you said, it gets your brain working. Very inspirational video.
I was a foreigner to England and within a month a four year old learned English ran into some great friends and amazing you tubers and role models. I was unsure about study abroad but you've really opened up my eyes. It's true not everything about another country is in a textbook!
I'm starting an exchange this August. I'm coming from New Zealand to America, and staying for 10 months :) I can't wait! My trip starts on August 1st, and I'm coming to Vidcon before I start school so that is going to be an awesome start to what will be the best year ever.
Alli this was literally the best video ever. I am starting my freshman years of college at FSU this summer was so interested in the study abroad program. You helped me make up my mind!!!!
I am so happy you posted this video! I am studying abroad this fall in London and I love hearing your advice (and weird because I watched you studying abroad when I was in high school) Love you!
I studied abroad in new zealand doing farm work and now studying farming here in denmark, i would do it all over again it was amazing, just the feeli g of getting better at english meeting people from all over the world i loved it!
I was planning on studying abroad in my second year of university for a year. The school I'm going you can do three semesters abroad and still get credit towards your degree. Thanks for the info Alli, I'm so excited!!
This is so encouraging, im looking at going to USF in a year once I graduate and this is such wonderful advice for someone with no college funds, taking into account I'd like to study abroad in England!
I lived in America for a year from my 17th till about my 18th birthday. It was literally the best thing that's ever happened to me, and if I could I would do it a thousand times over. Can't wait to get this opportunity in college!
I'm glad you chose my home town for your study abroad experience and had a great time ^^ I have also studied abroad for 4 months and u are totally right! The best decision I have ever taken!!
I'm actually doing the same study abroad program with FSU in Valencia... so funny that I came across this video!! I leave in January for the spring semester and I'm so stoked. Thanks for the tips :)
Hello Alli, I just wanted to tell you that I think of you as an inspiration. Im currently a senior at Arizona State, and I look up to you. I think you are a very intelligent woman, and I watched the vlogs while you were attending FSU. Watching you on those vlogs while going to school, motivated me to be the best student I can be. I hope to be like you, but in my own way. Thank you for being an awesome gal to look up to :).
Alli, I am so happy you made a video about this. I'm actually going to Italy for 3 weeks for a specialized program on the Mediterranean diet. I waited longer than I wanted to,considering I'm going right after I actually get my Bachelors. But I'm being brave and going with a school(University of Arizona) that is not my current school(University of Cincinnati)
That "not be an idiot" part made a lot of sense to me. I never studied abroad but I've traveled to many cities in Europe and tried to immerse myself in the culture and interact with new people. I found out that I can be really resourceful out of my environment (even more than in my hometown at times!) and you learn so so much! It's amazing! So, I reiterate what you said and my advise to anyone who reads this is: if you have the chance and want to do it, GO FOR IT! :D Good luck and have fun!
It's so strange that you posted this video today, I'm actually leaving to study abroad in Japan tomorrow. I'll be there for almost five months, and I really hope I'll have as much fun as you did on your trip!
I am from Germany and I went to America to go to High School for one year. That was 4 years ago and I still think it was the best year I've ever had. And I just went back to visit last week too. If you get the chance to study abroad, do it. You will not regret it.
There are programs that are sort of an inter-collegiate network for study abroad - you can talk to someone in the study abroad office about attending a program from another school :)
I couldn't agree more, the best way to learn a language is to be in the country for a while. I'm originally from Germany and decided to come here as an Au-Pair for one year. Best decision ever!!! Not only, because I met my now husband here. But in general it's an experience nobody can take away from you. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Of course it was difficult at first, but it became easier over time. Also, because everyone is going through the same familial withdrawal, you always have someone to talk to who can relate to you :)
I'm going to study abroad in Greece this summer!! I just applied! So excited! I'm nervous about the living situations and stuff like that but mostly stoked! :)
Im a sophomore in high school and so I only know almost 2 years of Spanish but I already love it and I pick it up so easily! I'm going to be in honors Spanish next year and I can't wait, I hope I get the chance to study abroad in college!
I'm graduating high school this year and I've been wanting to study abroad in USA for a long time. After watching this video it doesn't feel so impossible anymore. I looove English and I want to be fluent sooo badly. :) thanks Alli, love you
I am currently teaching myself Swedish because of my boyfriend who is Swedish and lives there, and I have visited Sweden multiple times over the past year and I love listening to them speak and doing my best to pick up phrases and words. I have textbooks but I found it better to learn when I was there because I am constantly surrounded by the language. I am definitively planning to move there and possibly study/work, but I do 100% agree that being in the country is the best way to learn.
Each scholarship application is different - they will always list the required steps to apply for the scholarship and you have to follow them exactly and make the deadlines. That's about it!
yay for Spain! :D I live in Barcelona and I've always loved English. As for now, I've studied a month in Seattle, 2 weeks in LA and did a 1 week exchange program in Denmark (we spoke to each other in English for one week in Denmark and in Spanish for one week when the danes came to Spain). And I agree, you meet lots of interesting people and make great friends when you study abroad :)
The College Program at Disney World in Florida is amazing. It's great experience and you get to meet so many people! You get roommates, meet new people, and get to explore Florida! It's great. While I don't do it, I do work at Disney and know many CP students (College Program) and they absolutely LOVE it!
Alli ur study abroad vlogs are what actually inspired me to study abroad at FSU Valencia in the fall of 2012. I kept mentioning u to the teachers and they all remembered u!! Especially Ignacio. Thanks for putting up this video and i was wondering if i could use it for my study abroad office here at NIU to encourge others to study abroad.
I have gone to Norway for family ancestor research with my mom and other relatives. Plus we had gone on a tour through out the cities. It was an amazing few weeks.
I am a 16 year old junior in high school and i have always been interested in other languages and film, television, and radio and i just signed up to study abroad right now. i always though of programs like this but i never thought about it because it is a little pricey but thanks to you, i did it and hopefully all goes well and i will vlog my stay in Brazil, because that is where i might be headed. Thank you so much, and wish me luck.
I'm studying abroad in England next fall (Bristol)! I fell in love with England and the city of Bristol in particular. But I am studying French there, and everyone tells me I'm stupid for not going to France. It's mostly because I need my credits to transfer, and in France they don't, but I hope to visit France every few weekends. So excited! PS: Thanks Alli, seeing your videos in Spain helped me decide that I wanted to study in Europe.
I had a similar issue to that when I studied abroad. I mostly found myself doing what I wanted to do alone and it was actually really rewarding. I was able to venture off onto little adventures and find parts of the city I wouldn't have if I had stayed back or gone out and done something I did not want to do. I learned a lot about myself doing that as well.
I loved seeing Alli study abroad. When i went to college that was never even on my radar. I wish someone had told me there were opportunities to learn in other countries.
I'm living in Bermeo, Spain teaching English. I've been here for six months, with two to go, then I'm coming back but to Madrid to do it all again. Alli's Vlogs from Spain were how I found CTFxC.
I came back from an internship abroad (went from Sweden, originally from the Netherlands) a month ago and as you said Alli, do ANYTHING to get it done! I started asking students for tips, started stalking the study abroad pages at my uni and eventually I just randomly asked my professor. He actually got me an internship due to my enthusiasm! :) What you also forgot to mention: just ask the people where you will be staying where to get things. They helped me get housing and a bike..
I'm German and I'm currently living in the United States. It's always been my dream to attend an American High School. Coming here was the best decision of my life! Going abroad made me realize how big the world is, improved my english a lot and I discovered my passion for traveling. I have to leave soon and thinking about it breaks my heart. This year changed me and my life in so many positive ways and here's one tip: USE YOUR TIME WISELY. It goes by fast, guys. Enjoy every single second.
Alli, I appreciate you so dearly. You are basically my role model. Thank you for the video. Definitely encouraged me even more to go for a study abroad program. :)
I took a break between my Sophomore & Junior years at university in America for a full year abroad. I was able to get a position teaching conversational English at a private language school in Seoul, S Korea. I taught high school students as well as business and military personnel (government regulations are a bit more strict now). Best year of my life!! Became much more aware of the world. Got to know and love the Korean people (and the food). Even learned a little local language. Have visited
Currently studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain and I'm vlogging it, inspired by ctfxc. :) Great vid alli. I agree with you so much about gaining language skills, people skills, travel skills, etc. etc. And just having a blast!
Thank you Alli! I was unable to go to argentina this term because of money and timing, but you have inspired me to try again and try for more scholarships. Hopefully it'll work out this time!!
Can you tell us more about the Keratin treatment you had done on your hair? Your hair has looked so smooth ever since, especially considering the humid environment you live in. 1) What was the treatment called? 2) What was the before/after of your hair? 3) Did it damage/dry out your hair? 4) How does it wear off or grow out? 5) Would you do it again? Thanks Alli!
studying abroad has been the best choice i've ever made. It changed my life and I made the best of friends. If you're even thinking about it, you HAVE to do it! apply for scholarships, talk to people who have experience with it and go on this adventure! It ill open your eyes, stretch your horizons and I promise you, you won't regret one tiny second of it.
I've been both in Cambridge and in Hamburg and it was great, I went to Cambridge to get the CAE (Centrificate in Advanced English) and to Hamburg for 6 months to learn German. If you want to try it you really should, Cambridge has the best partylife EVER! Go during the spring and autumn though when the normal uni students are there.
I recently accepted a university course which includes a study abroad! I'm from the UK and have visited the US twice (once when I was very little so I can't remember) but I'm obsessed with the US culture and cannot wait, fingers crossed, to do my study abroad in America! I'm so nervous yet so excited at the same time! :D
I just got home from spending 3 months living and working in Switzerland and in August I go to India to spend 3 months working and living there! :) Travelling abroad and diving straight into a new culture is definitely the BEST way to learn about other cultures and languages :)
I definitely agree that studying abroad will enrich your life! I'm from England and I've been studying abroad in Canada over the past year, I can't believe it's almost at an end! I would recommend it to anyone.
I loved studying in Spain in the summer. I went through my uni's study abroad program with 39 other students from my uni and another uni and we all stayed in homestays in Madrid. I have to say it was an amazing experience immersing in the Madrileños' environment. ¡Viva la Furia Roja!

I'm going to spend about 5 months in Boston, i'm very excited

I lived in America for a year from my 17th till about my 18th birthday. It was literally the best thing that's ever happened to me, and if I could I would do it a thousand times over. Can't wait to get this opportunity in college!
I'm glad you chose my home town for your study abroad experience and had a great time ^^
I have also studied abroad for 4 months and u are totally right!
I am studying abroad for two months this summer in Paris for my French minor and now I am even more excited about it!!
I'm Studying abroad in Nice, France in September for a year! So excited!
I am studying abroad in Germany for the first time this summer and I am so excited! This video was awesome :)
I'm going to study abroad in Greece this summer!! I just applied! So excited! I'm nervous about the living situations and stuff like that but mostly stoked! :)
I love your videos, especially the challenges
Im a sophomore in high school and so I only know almost 2 years of Spanish but I already love it and I pick it up so easily! I'm going to be in honors Spanish next year and I can't wait, I hope I get the chance to study abroad in college!
I'm graduating high school this year and I've been wanting to study abroad in USA for a long time. After watching this video it doesn't feel so impossible anymore. I looove English and I want to be fluent sooo badly. :) thanks Alli, love you
I don't have an older woman in my life to look up to and I have to say that I admire you greatly. Thank you for all that you do
I am currently teaching myself Swedish because of my boyfriend who is Swedish and lives there, and I have visited Sweden multiple times over the past year and I love listening to them speak and doing my best to pick up phrases and words.
Increíble Alli, eres un gran ejemplo!! Espero verte pronto por Madrid!!
I have gone to Norway for family ancestor research with my mom and other relatives. Plus we had gone on a tour through out the cities. It was an amazing few weeks.
I studied abroad in Scotland and that's why I can perfectly understand you now !!! So don't hesitate guys !!
I'm going to live in England for 6 months in januari, to work as an au pair, can't wait!!
AWESOME! I'm so happy for you!
I love episodes of Ask Alli! Thanks for always being awesome and making videos :) Love you!
I would love to see a more detailed and in-depth video about your experience! It's something I'm very interested in and I'm sure many others are too.
This really helped! I was thinking about studying abroad later in high school or in college and this really clarified my answer! Thanks Alli!!
your the reason i want to go europe!!!! when u guys went it looked beautiful and it made me want to go there one day, thanks alli!!!!!
This made me even more excited to go to Italy in May! It's going to be my last semester in college!
What you also forgot to mention: just ask the people where you will be staying where to get things.
Thanks for this video! Studying abroad is definitely something I feel I have to do in college.
I agree with you so much about gaining language skills, people skills, travel skills, etc. etc. And just having a blast!
thanks alli, this video really speaks to me. I was thinking about this earlier, hesitating actually but you solidified my urge to go. Thanks
Im going to spain for 9-10 days with my schools spanish club in june and this just made me so much more excited!
Thank you Alli! I was unable to go to argentina this term because of money and timing, but you have inspired me to try again and try for more scholarships. Hopefully it'll work out this time!!
I love the fact that you reply to comments its awesome to see unlike other RUclipsrs. (:
Me alegro que te gustase Valencia! Yo vivo allí, al lado de las Torres de Serrano :)
I'm studying abroad in Greece this summer for the second time. Loved it so much I had to go back :-)
I've been both in Cambridge and in Hamburg and it was great, I went to Cambridge to get the CAE (Centrificate in Advanced English) and to Hamburg for 6 months to learn German. If you want to try it you really should, Cambridge has the best partylife EVER! Go during the spring and autumn though when the normal uni students are there.
i like how your nail polish matches almost perfectly to your lipstick!
Thank you for putting this up! I've been trying to do some study abroad in Norway. This has put me at some ease :) Thank you!! :D
I loved studying in Spain in the summer. I went through my uni's study abroad program with 39 other students from my uni and another uni and we all stayed in homestays in Madrid. I have to say it was an amazing experience immersing in the Madrileños' environment. ¡Viva la Furia Roja!
