    For the ppl saying collagen is a waste of money & doesn’t work... I totally disagree... I’ve been using collagens (powdered) for 3 years now shortly after my infected gallbladder was removed & I’m telling you the stuff works!!! It’s the only supplement I’m on so I know IT’S what has my gut issues 98% better along with my hair & nails are the best they have been in years... & my skin is great!!! I’m 60 & since taking my collagen every day has made my quality of life WAYYYYY better... So I say if it works for you keep doing it👍🏽😊 Ohhhh & an added bonus I’ve noticed is minimal joint pain due to arthritis😁

    I've been using this brand for 6 months and I have seen great results. After being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism I lost so much hair. I started using the peptides and my hair has grown! Also, something that I noticed is that nails are longer/stronger. I also was surprised to see that it is now sold at Target pharmacy.

    There was a period of time where I used VP collagen regularly and saw a major difference in my skin, nails, and hair. I now have a bit of knee pain and want to see if I start it again after a few months if it’ll work towards reducing joint pain. I love their products!

    I also see the biggest improvement in my toenails! My toenails were getting very flaky and almost separating from the nailbed (and no it was not a fungus nail, I did check it with my podiatrist). After about a week taking collagen, I saw a huge improvement in the toenails, cuticles and the skin on my feet overall. My feet just look happy and healthy now. The second change I noticed was in my hair, it seems to have more body and thickness to it. And thirdly, yes I do feel that collagen helped me with gut regularity. Discovered this product from your insta stories - thanks mucho, Ingrid!! Also, so sad you've ended LWL. Please consider starting your own podcast. Are you talking about noticing a difference in the new growth of your hair? I just don't understand how something taken internally can affect was already there, meaning the hair shaft. You would have to put something topical on it to accomplish that I would think but with the new growth, yes assuming there's enough beer to be able to make those determinations. One month might not be long enough as one other RUclipsr mentioned.

    The short answer is no. Not only is there no scientific research that supports this, but even in theory, collagen (like any other protein you consume) is immediately broken down into amino acids when it reaches your stomach. The collagen you ingest will not remain intact, and will never reach your skin/bones/etc. Maybe if you have disposable income, you can try expensive snake oil stuff like this, but for everyone else, eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly; it will do WAY more good for your skin, bones, and everything else.

Thanks

    • @richardmalone3172
      @richardmalone3172 5 лет назад +3

      You say that the collagen will not remain intact. Correct. But the building blocks for collagen are now in your body. You skin, hair, nails, connective tissues are being replaced all the time. It stands to reason that if you supply the building blocks required, then your body will do the rest as scientific studies have shown time and again. Your body is quite smart.

    I have been adding collagen peptides (not this brand) in my decaf coffee for over a year. I have noticed a difference in my skin. I have less fine lines and it appears my face has more life in it than it did before People have actually asked me what I am doing and wondered if I had any facial treatments because they said I looked younger I have not done anything except use this almost every day. I don't use a bunch of masks or get facials or anything. I also, haven't changed anything else in my life. Therefore, I can only attribute it to the collagen peptides. While there may not be any "scientific facts" that say it has benefits. I am an example that it has been beneficial to me.

  • @Stopmotionlove1
    @Stopmotionlove1 6 лет назад +73

    there is no empirical evidence to support the effectiveness of collagen supplements in improving your skin, joints, or digestion. hair skin and nail cells develop via keratin production so consuming collagen means it will go through your digestive system; in order for collagen to be effective, it would need to be produced in your skin cells. if you’re worried about your joints consume more calcium- calcium can be absorbed by red blood cells and circulated throughout the body. also i have a lot of questions about the probiotic benefits of collagen powder if there are no live cultures. in order for a probiotic to be effective, it must contain live probiotic bacteria that settle in your gut and fight off bad bacteria in order to create a balanced environment in your bowels. very confused how if you’re drinking something that has no live bacteria in it, you are seeing significant benefits changes in your digestion.

    • @Stopmotionlove1
      @Stopmotionlove1 6 лет назад +5

      i understand collagen has the potential to boost amino acid production but would that actually significantly improve your appearance and couldn’t you just find aminos in a normal omnivorous diet??

    • @roseanna1652

      I was definitely scratching my head when she said probiotic. But I have heard (I need to revisit the source) that taking collagen can help repair leaky gut syndrome, which would help digestion. @AmandeanNaturalProducts 3 года назад +1

      @@saradeanpereira We agree completely! Being that collagen is one of the main components of the skin and its natural production starts decreasing after the age of 25, the best thing we can do for our skin (and not just skin, but also bones, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, blood vessels, etc.) is start taking a quality collagen supplement as soon as possible. Collagen is the main structural protein in the body, and we need to optimize its levels for a strong, healthy body.

  • @piafleig
    @piafleig 6 лет назад +8

    This is a summary of the more scientific comments on here and hopefully will bring you some clarity what collagen is and how it is absorbed.
    Collagen is the most common protein in our body. There are 21 subtypes found in different parts, like our skin, joints and bones. To be exact, collagen builds a net outside of the cells (thus lies in the extracellular matrix) and can give form and structure to the organ it is part of.
    The different collagen subtypes are needed in different parts of your body, so in theory, swallowing one of them couldn't help different parts (bones have type 1, blood vessels and skin type 3, joints type 2 and so on).
    As collagen is a protein, it consists of amino acids. When digested, in order to be absorbed by our bowels, every protein will be broken down into its aminoacids. Collagen would be too big to be taken in whole. With the individual amino acids, the cells now have a variety of options. They can use them for energy or build new proteins - whichever are currently needed. It is important to say that thus, our body does need amino acids, but not entire proteins. Just like with lego, it builds its own proteins, collagen being one of them.
    Something that out body cannot produce is almost all of the vitamins. They are vital to be taken in through food. If you want to boost collagen synthesis, take vitamin C for example, as it is an enzyme vital for it. And that as well might be what is mixed in the collagen products sold at drugstores and online. They are what show the effects people notice later.
    I hope this helped some of you!

    Hi Ingrid. I love Vital Proteins. Yep I notice the froth too...I actually like that. Interesting you detect a taste in the marine collagen, I actually smell it initially but it quickly dissipates to me. It goes very well though if you are making a fish dish and creating a sauce. I agree the chicken definitely has a taste (but it is a broth so to be expected). I like it in sauces that I use for poultry. I did try the bovine and have to agree not even a detectable smell. The arrogance and greed of corrupt research groups including the government don't get to tell me what works for me or what to believe. These are the same "experts" that researchmany substances and approve them for use and then decades late, guess what? Lawsuits! These same experts tell us that vaccines have no effect on autism rates. Same researches tell us that mercury in dental fillings have no impact on autoimmune disease, that breast implants are safe, that flouride in toothpaste is safe, that coconut oil is bad for the body, etc. Don't rely on these corrupt money hungry researchers telling you what works. I don't rely on a bunch of white coats or dieticians telling me what works in my body. My own senses work fine and the photos are plenty proof for me. The nerve.

    Now, I guess some people do believe that if you take collagen it goes directly to your skin/joints/nails but I've never believed that. What I do believe (and know for a fact to be true) is that while muscles, skin and connective tissue are all made up of proteins, the ratio of the amino acids in those proteins are different. So it does make sense to me that you need a diverse range of amino acids in order to have the building blocks required. It's why I think people should eat the whole animal if they choose to consume animal products and not just the muscle meat. It doesn't mean if you have an autoimmune disease that's attacking your joints taking collagen is going to magically re-build them and even if that could happen they'd still be under attack constantly as the underlying autoimmune response is still there. But perhaps if someone who's generally healthy but their amino acid ratio is off and they're low on something like glycine then collagen in supplement form or eating connective tissue rich cuts of meat like shanks could correct the balance and have a modest benefit. Hardly a magic bullet though.

      If you liked this video, you may be interested in differences between the different forms of collagen supplements! Capsules are more convenient for traveling, but powder works too and you can't really taste it. There's not going to be a difference in absorption between the powder and the liquid. And finally, collagen does not get absorbed through the skin, so don't count on that when using a cream. On the other hand, you might experience benefits from collagen cream from the other ingredients that tend to be in those creams, like vitamin A!

    Your specific collagen does work, but most “collagen” products of any kind do not work. You need the peptides for it to work. The collagen can only work if it’s hydrolyzed.

      RUclips User I understand where you’re coming from but just because it hasn’t been studied yet, doesn’t mean it doesn’t work/exist. It just means it hasn’t been studied yet. You don’t know. It could or could not work, but from my research through consumer reports, it does work (:

      RUclips User hey, I know you are right (studying biochemistry, too). But if you want people to believe you, stop calling them idiots and other names. It makes them less inclined to believe the truth, and that would be bad, wouldn't it?

    • @AllysonWonderlandd
      @AllysonWonderlandd 6 лет назад +4

      RUclips User Just because people may not know everything about it, doesn’t make a person an idiot. You don’t everything about literature, does that make you an idiot? No. It’s just a topic you don’t know much about. Calling people idiots isn’t kind. Just be kind to people. You can give them information without being rude. Calm down. Also, if that’s destroyed in the digestive tract, then all nutrients that you take in also gets “destroyed” in the digestive tract, preventing your body from absorbing. What makes collagen different from any other nutrients in food? There is collagen that your joints needs that older patients take to help their joints repair and get better.

      I’m a scientist myself (biologist) but you’re the EXACT reason people get turned off by science and don’t listen, because of this elitist attitude. YOU’RE part of the problem and ruining it for the rest of us trying to educate. You should be ashamed.

    I know there is certainly a debate going on in the comments in regards to the scientific legitimacy of this specific product, and supplements generally - However, that aside. I'm curious as to why one would chose to take the powdered formula as opposed to one in a capsule? Especially considering the residual stickiness and travel issues she's stated.

    Absolutely love the video Ingrid Nilsen! There seems to be a battle in the comments on the research over the product and hope this can help others make an opinion for themselves aside from your personal experience with collagen peptides!
    From the studies I have read this was the general consensus:
    "Studies have shown that the oral ingestion of collagen hydrolysate leads to elevated levels of collagen-derived peptides in the blood, but whether these peptides reach the skin remains unclear"
    Their conclusion essentially is that they believe it is possible for "functional peptides to be transferred to the skin by dietary supplements of collagen"
    I've also seen other studies conducted on mice, claiming improvements in tendons and other benefits as well. So it has been studied just maybe not widely enough to truly determine how effective the product is, so it may not be a miracle product, but it can help when added to a healthy diet.
    That being said, our brand "yourganics" have already received dozens of testimonials claiming how our product has changed thire lives and have seen great results from hair health, improving the elasticity and hydration of their skin, as well as improved mobility of joints, and even digestive health. If you're interested in our product simply search "yourganics collagen" on amazon, We are currently only available in a large tub, but hope to add size variations soon.
    Hope that helped, we will be checking back to answer any questions, but by no means are we physician and always encourage you to discuss taking any dietary supplement with your doctor!

      I'd look into this more and see if other people have experienced the same thing. Ultimately, a headache might be a sign that your body isn't into it. Hello Meechie! When it comes to the best dosage for you, it is always best to consult with your healthcare provider. However, the general recommendation for the daily collagen dose ranges from 2.5 to 10 grams. We'd say that 1 to 2 scoops a day is just enough! Keep in mind that it is more about bioavailability (the amount of the collagen protein your body absorbs and utilizes) than the dosage itself. If you want a high bioavailability level, go with collagen hydrolysate, as it offers readily absorbed collagen peptides.
