  • Another year, another awards season, and another chance for Better Call Saul to fall flat on its face at the Emmys! This video will take a look at the nominations the show has received this time around, and predict whether it will win any of them. Be sure to come back to this video after January 15th to laugh at how wrong I was.
    I was wrong.

    4:22 I dissagree. The show ending in black and white is the thing that impacted me the most when I first watched it. The point of the ending is that, even with Jimmy's "redemption" and kim and him sharing the last minutes together, they have to go on with their colorless lives after all they did. So I think having the credits in color would ruin that.

    Better Call Saul will be remembered as much more than a spin off, or a prequel to one of the best shows of all time (Breaking Bad) BCS will be remembered as one of the shows series of all time, 53 nominations and 0 awards, just shows how ridiculous these awards are. Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman was one of the best performances of all time, just like Al Pacino in Godfather, De Niro in Taxi Driver, Heath Ledger in Dark Knight, Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood, Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad and many others, he doesn't need any award for that be recognized

    There is a LOT of unhinged glazing for Succession in this comments section. I’d just like to say, Succession is an excellent show, very well written and acted, but not on the same level as Saul. The subtlety of the writing, the subtle and cinematic direction, the incredible acting, and the way it all culminates so perfectly in the end, genuinely one of the best things to ever be on a screen period.
    Succession is flashier, more in your face, more shocking. But the richness, all those little subliminal images and symbols, the dialogue you can pull apart forever, you won’t find that in Succession.

    • @StaleKeish
      @StaleKeish 7 месяцев назад +1

      I love both but kinda strongly disagree with what you’re saying, almost feels like you’ve switched the appeal of shows. It’s the subtlety and endless character and thematic depth that carries Succession. BCS was definitely the flashier and more shocking one, especially in the final season.

    • @Jungus1999
      @Jungus1999 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@StaleKeish I totally disagree with you that Better Call Saul is flashier, yes the long shots and measured conversations are punctuated by action sequences and dramatic scenes, but Succession is much more staccato and energized throughout. The camera is constantly moving the plot is constantly moving, it’s a show with a lot of momentum, and that’s a big part of its appeal. BOTH Better Call Saul and Succession are driven forward by their characters, I really don’t like that you implied that Better Call Saul isn’t.

  • @Jared_Wignall
    @Jared_Wignall 8 месяцев назад +18

    I hope it gets at least one Emmy. If it wins something, I’ve gotta feeling Bob Odenkirk will win. While he has 2 for writing, I could see a good number of the Academy members deciding they wouldn’t want Better Call Saul to be one of those shows with a lot of nominations and not a single win. I think Bob winning could work as Succession has 3 nominees and perhaps those three cancel each other out, allowing for one of the other nominees to win, if that happens Bob I think has a chance at winning. He’s been nominated for the role of Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman/Gene Takovic 6 times now, should be 7 but he wasn’t nominated for Season 5 for some reason which was the year GOT last season won Best Drama and other accolades, and perhaps this last nomination for his performance on BCS could also be a way of finally giving him a Best Actor Emmy similar to how they finally gave Jon Hamm the Emmy for the last time Mad Men was eligible to receive anything as in Hamm’s defense, most of the time he kept losing to Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad. Better Call Saul should have a number of Emmys by now and it’s a shame it’s got nothing so far. It’s definitely the best show since Breaking Bad.

    to whom it may concern: should BCS end its run without a single major Emmy (i.e. series, performance, writing), it will have suffered a similar fate to that of another great series, The Wire.
    why is this important, and why is this seemingly inevitable?: The Wire is a spiritual successor to a great miniseries, The Corner, which won multiple Emmys, including those for series, directing and writing. BCS is an actual successor (prequel, in this case) to a great series, Breaking Bad, which also won multiple Emmys, including two for series, one for writing and several for its performances.
    In effect, both shows suffer a bias by voters which stems from the idea that they have already rewarded these works, so there is no need to further reward them for their excellency (unless they are truly far superior than the competition - which was hard given that The Wire co-existed with the Sopranos and the West Wing, among others, and BCS co-existed with Game of Thrones, The Americans and Succession, among others).
    this is not to discredit BCS as a great show, nor is it to disregard the Emmys as the premier television award body, or compare it to The Wire. it is for those interested to understand, to some degree, why BCS is to this day without a single Emmy.

    BCS has notoriously been robbed of awards, I don’t think it should have won majority of awards as the competition was very good, however not one emmy win is still crazy to me. Loved watching this video, i just subbed, also props for using windmill isle music, that song slaps and i use it in my main channel vids too :)

      Wrong, Succession is Top 5 all time, with BB, Sopranos, The Wire. Better acting, writing, pacing, dialouge, directing. not to mention the 2 legendary characters and performances by Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong, BCS didn't have one actor that got to that level.

    I would disagree on Rhea's nomination. Elizabeth Debicki has higher odds and without any personal show bias, showed better acting skills in the Crown. I think unfortunately, Succession is going to crush BCS because upon looking at Odds for Best Drama, Succession is at 1.11 and BCS is 15+. Not looking good. As it goes for Best Actor in a Drama series, Jeremy strong and Kieran Culkin (both from Succession lol), are neck and neck at the top spots and Bob is at a firm 2nd/3rd place at this point. I think Bob winning has the higher odds overall. Undoubtedly, they are going to win some if not 1 categorical award.

I dont think another show will ever do what bcs did in terms of being a spinoff/continuation while boosting the original as a prequel but imo also being better. It was just that good, for me it was like tuning in to the late seasons of BB, it felt like you were taking part in history. The Finale episode is maybe the best series finale episode ever in terms of flawless execution, and to many that wasn't the best episode!
