THIS CHEEVCANARY
When I first finished Breaking Bad I thought Better Call Saul was just a cash grab, but after I started watching it I realized how wrong I was
Even calling it a spinoff feels like an insult. Yess it technically was spun off of Breaking Bad, but it's a full on ancillary work on equal footing to it. Calling BCS a spinoff of Breaking Bad feels like calling The Two Towers a a spinoff of The Fellowship of The Ring.
Better call saul feels like the main storyline and bb is the spin off
I was very worried about it, and thought it'd be a light episodic comedy where Saul took on a new client every week.
@@tjenadonn6158 well said
@Mart Awesome no
I'm impressed with how they had a cast of mostly unknown actors and actresses and everyone of them gave performances that would rival any major star in Hollywood I hope to see them in new ventures and have the success they had in the breaking bad universe
I wouldn't say unknown, but not known for this - that's the thing.
Mostly they cast underground comedians. This includes both Jimmy AND Chuck, who appeared together on Mr. Show a bunch.
@@BlazingOwnager Bob Odenkirk and Michael Mckean we’re not underground comedians. Both were famous and had long professional careers in comedy and acting. Literally the two best known actors on the show.
@@destructocid Underground is probably the wrong word. They're famous in that way some other amazing comedians are famous, but were far from household names.
I just hope they dont take this new celebrity status opportunity to start pontificating like so many others in show biz do now...Once I hear the absolute BS that spews from so many of their mouths it just takes away much of the pleasure of watching their performance
@@jdevine42 like Bryan Cranston and Dean Norris. They are intolerable douche bags now.
Love how the character that resonates with the audience the most is Kim.
The final shot of the show from Kim’s eyes seeing Jimmy faded away feels like us seeing Saul Goodman that we knew since 2009 and the whole Breaking Bad universe faded away, leaving with the only good memories😢.
Kim is basically the BCS equivalent of BB's Jesse
Kim in my opinion is how you do a strong female character that MCU fails miserably at.
@@nickelion1760 Kim is a masterclass in how to write a strong female character that has tons of agency without having to ONCE go into a "JUST BECAUSE I AM A WOMAN" rant. Everytime anyone is critical of that sort of thing people cry sexist when all people really want are good characters.
@@BlazingOwnager fr like if anyone would criticise Kim to be a Mary Sue, you 100% know they're sexist at that point. She's the exact opposite of a Mary Sue.
Thanks for the spoiler haven’t watched BB yet 😅😂
Its going to be hard to find a new show as good as Better call Saul and Breaking Bad.

Yeah...same here...if by chance you never saw the Sopranos, youre lucky cause you have at least one show to see that belongs to the same level...
What's with Better Fuck Chuck, Better Shank Hank, Better Rim Kim, Better Fuel Huel, Better diale Lyle and so on?

Nacho's character development is one of the best ones I have ever seen, it completely turned his character around without ruining the context of his core character.
And meanwhile I was over here going, "Thank God no more Nacho."
Better Call Saul is one of those rare prequel that actually gives more depth to the original story and changes how you watch it. Every time Saul is in Breaking Bad now you just can't ignore the added context.
Every scene in the super lab will never feel the same either, you can’t not think about Howard and Lalo under that floor.
I think it's the writing team's strength of retroactive continuity. They've always been amazing at it.
From interviews I gather their writing process is "Whenever we encounter a new problem or situation, look at everything we established for a solution before introducing new elements."
That’s where the fly Walt obsesses over came from...
@@DarkeningSkies1 Holy shit that made the least favorite episode better, thanks for howard & Lalo

Yeah. Because they actually cared about the story more than special effects.
This series is seriously perfect. It will definitely hold a place in my heart for a while. I loved BB as well but the character development and the writing in BCS just tool the cake. Bob odenkirk is like my hero now. All the other actors and actresses were stellar as well
The one thing I like about breaking bad and Better Call Saul is that you actually have to pay attention and they don't hold your hand on the callbacks.
Yesss...i even catch things rewatching episodes that i had not noticed before
3:12 we don't talk about the animated series Slippin' Jimmy
*Sees the title*
"You're goddamn right"
Not a single wasted scene over 6 years. Can't do much better than this. I'll be thinking about Jimmy McGill for years.
Walt - dead
Jesse - escaped
Saul - prison
I must agree about the Nacho character. His death scene had snatches of what made the Far Cry video game so outstanding. He has a capacity for malevolent rage that is truly chilling, but contrasting that with his compassion for his father and the heart breaking grief of saying goodbye to him, without saying goodbye . . . In a world where the entitled can slap their host at the ceremony in which they won an Oscar, something has gone truly wrong with the world if he doesn’t win a best supporting actor Emmy.
In game terms, BCS is the Vice City to BB's GTA3
This writing, cinematography, sound, music, etc etc etc are absolutely amazing!
Compared to pop-culture things we love like Star Wars and Marvel, this give me true hope for visual arts.
I am so with you about this show. This entire franchise was exquisitely crafted and I fear nothing will ever measure up.
Since the finale of this show, I have not been o k. Lalo is one of the greatest villains put to screen, and what happened to Howard is somehow more tragic than chucks death. That isn’t even scratching the surface of this show. It takes scenes that feel almost pointless and turns them into character work that just makes you think, and the cinematography is so inspired I smile just thinking about the cold open of ants eating jimmys ice cream.
Howard's death is sadder because he couldn't prevent his death. Chuck had a choice.
Wait, there are people who actually like Lalo?
@@KaNoMikoProductions Yes? He's a great character
@@epicfan1598 Could've fooled me
@@KaNoMikoProductions Not really. You can acknowledge someones a villain yet admire them as a character and how awesome they're written/acted
5:34 Gus and Lalo are the show's best villains IMO.
The character development, the acting, the cinematography is unmatched.
Better call Saul is unforgettable
Chuck: You passed the bar?
Better Call Saul is a Masterpiece!!!
Did u know that you have the rights to watch a show better than breaking bad?
Sheev talks says you do
Hear, hear. I loved Breaking Bad, but I'd put this series a little above it. There wasn't a single miss in the BCS major characters; they were all fascinating, even when they did things we hated. Also, high standards are good. When you're not easy to please, and then you really love something, it means more. It's a great feeling, like spotting gold among all the worthless nuggets.
The third program in the BB universe.
"The life and times of Jeff the Cab Driver " 😂
You never know, it might actually be very good 😉👍😎
haha you don't count Slippin' Jimmy?

Or what about, "Better tractor with Hector"? Hector Salamanca films a documentary when he was younger which is all about tractors, which he was passionate about when he was a boy.

People who would take a pill to forget everything to watch Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad again
I agree - in this day and age it was such a relief to finally watch a modernshow that wasn't spoiled by poor writing.
Dude community is an absolute fking masterpiece. Easily the greatest sitcom of that era, and that says alot especially while contending with shows like the office or parks and rec. Might just be my numbet 1 all time favorite sitcom, the writing is just so creative and imaginable, those writers rooms mustve been on so much acid ahahaha
Better call Sheev

The name is Jimmy. Slippin' Jimmy
Imagine that they stuck the landing not once not twice but three fucking times in a row
Damn I don’t have a subscription to Netflix, I might have to get one.
The great storytelling is a perfect example of the point made by the South Park creators…(paraphrased)…if, when summarizing a story, the main thing connecting the scenes and plot beats is “And then…” the story is episodic and weak. If, instead, you say, “So” or “But”…cause and effect and character motives are driving things, making it a much better story.
This plays out down to the tiniest detail in every episode. Soooo good!
And yet, you haven't watched the greatest sci/fi series of all time.......DARK.
I'm rewatching it and much as i HATE to admit it, it's right up there with BB. Detailed, well acted, well written, looks great. VERY few weaknesses with this show, if at all
Better Call Saul did something so masterfully that Star Wars will never ever ever do: End.
2:52 you're forgetting the masterpiece that is Slippin Jimmy my man

Breaking Bad is great but Better Call Saul Is just perfect.
You should check out Barry on HBO it’s a fabulous dark comedy drama about a hit man trying to get out of the hit man life style so he becomes an actor. It’s so good.
It's like Alien vs Aliens and T1 vs T2.. the second series / film has to be better than the original to be perceived as being as good. If BB had followed BCS would BB have been perceived as better? I don't know. I loved both BB and BCS. Maybe BB was better or maybe it wasn't. They are both some of the best TV ever filmed and I will rewatch them both for many years.
And Nacho's death speech with "you twisted Fuck!" at the end was sublime.. I can watch that time after time after time and it never gets old.
BCS is a masterpiece.. But I am in a process of re-watching BB and I think maybe BB is a bit better. however it's really too close to call. I think both series are brilliant and equally worthy.
I agree that Better Call Saul was better than Breaking Bad.
Spoilers if you read further (you have been warned)
From every character being amazing to just how its written. While watching Better Call Saul in the early seasons it had moments in the show that made me think it was was better than Breaking Bad I overall thought Breaking Bad was better. But this final season blew me away, Nacho's delivery in his last scene was something else. I was truly shocked when they killed him off because I wasn't expecting it. And I couldn't get mad at them for killing of my favorite character because that was truly one of if not the best send off for a character ever.
Then in episode 7 when Lalo comes out of the shadows and reveals himself to Kim and Saul then just kills Howard. I've never gasped and jumped out of my seat while watching a show before. I was so shocked I couldn't get out of my seat to even begin to process what I just watched for at least another 5 minuets after the credits rolled. That episode might truly be one of the best episode in history just for how shocking it was.
Then in episode 8 with the aftermath of it all was just heart-stopping to say the least. I've never been more stressed out in my life watching a show before. This show was just an experience unlike any other.
And the final episode was just amazing. From once again being stressed out and on the edge of your seat because you don't know what's going to happen next at the beginning of the episode, to seeing what Sauls big plan was with how he was going to get out of trouble and only serve a short amount of prison time insead of spending the rest of his life in there. Only for him to confess to the court of what his true intentions were when he met Walter White and change the one thing he regrets in his life and becomes Jimmy again. Everything about this show is just amazing and was unlike anything I had ever watched before. Absolutely amazing.
agreed bro bcs at least to me is much better since it perfects the whole universe and fills the plot holes of breaking bad for example domingo being an informant
Give me a story about a young Gus in the Chilean army during the atrocities commited down there and how that shaped him into who we get to know decades later. Like Narcos meets Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. I'd watch the hell out of that.
I thought a story about Gus would be interesting....his move from South America to NM....chicken man to drugs/cartel
@@jryan9547 That would be great! My only worry about that is that particular Gus would be closer in age to the Gus we know. But Giancarlo Esposito has aged out of playing Gus at that age. I went with a much younger Gus, because then it wouldn't be so jarring to get another actor.
Nacho's death speech got me fired up. Takes over Ragnar's death speech in Vikings.
When you said cameos, they literally put GTA, Far Cry & BB character into this show
I love your videos and all the work you put into them! Keep it goin *finger guns*
Kid named finger
I love this show, too. I also think that it's better than "Breaking Bad", even though I loved that show and I wasn't in a hurry to watch "Better Call Saul" when it came out. I've rewatched "Better Call Saul" more than I've watched "Breaking Bad". The best compliment that I can give this show is that it's like a page-turner novel.
Kid named great analysis
Kid named finger caught me off guard haha great vid
Cant agree more...i liked it even more than BrBA...Odenkirk and the cast did such an amazing job
I remember watching that scene with Saul naming Lalo & wondering what kind of stuff was Saul into because he was sacred and telling 😂I loved how they tied everything together.
You know, after the Kenobi video, you've gotta watch one of the cuts of it into a movie and compare it to the show
No one will ever be able to conVince me that Jesse deserved freedom more than Nacho.
To me Breaking Bad is my favorite. Saul second favorite show ever.

Acting and Story = BB

Some people have complained about BBS not having the “slam bang” ending of BB…
I think of “Breaking Bad” as “Hamlet” while “Better Call Saul” is “Crime and Punishment”
Imagine topping breaking bad
Edit:please make that longer video sheev im starving for some BCS content
I loved that the only main character in the bb universe that got a “good ending” was jesse
Yeh man - agreed!! Nice one
I wanted more in the confession scene from Jimmy, it was incredible I just wanted it to be dragged out a bit longer and see Howard's name given retribution.
Perfect ending and I think breaking bad is better consistently throughout but better call Saul last 1 and a half seasons tops it .
so you spent the first 2 and a half minutes talking about obi wan Kenobi, then gave the blandest, most boring opinion on better call saul in 5 minutes and spent the rest of the video talking about random completely unrelated stuff. this video is a masterpiece.

OK 1 year ago I had not seen breaking bad or better call saul. I'm done. Both shows are amazing. I think I prefer breaking bad as a whole, but I prefer Jimmy over walter. Thank you for recommending the show.
Loved BCS not better than BB though. 95 and 99 percent in my eyes. The one criticism I have for BCS is how, because it in its nature as prequel we know what ultimately happens to some if not all the characters which takes some of the thrill out of it. That's not to say it wasn't a fantastic show, I just do not think that it was a better show than Breaking Bad. I was disappointed to find myself liking Lalo's character, to the point where I would consider him on par with Gus in BB, only to find him my time watching him was extremely limited and his fate was sealed.
Knowing how it ends is not a problem. In fact, it can provide a totally different and good experience while watching the show, if well handled. For example, we know Kim and Howard are not in Breaking Bad, so at the same time we see their characters grow, we can't help but think "what will happen to them?? Why they're not in BB???" Because of this, you could've expected Kim was going to die at "any moment" in this last season; you could've thought Lalo was going to kill Kim, and this builds so much tension. I think Vince and Peter handled these facts perfectly.
@@rodrigolerner698 don't get me wrong I think, Vince and Peter are geniuses. You are right that the experience is different and I just prefer the breaking bad experience. Again not sayin I disliked saul in the slightest I just prefer WW as a main character to Jimmy. Like I said 95 and 99.
9 minute video with 3 minutes of preamble.
What did Sheev mean by this?
I haven't seen this channel. But if you love shows like BCS and BB, and really seem to dislike all the superhero/starwars/extended universe stuff that has been coming out, then why is the latter the "main type of media you consume"? I promise you, there are a lot of great shows out there. But if your main time is spent watching obvious cashgrabs, you're not going to find them. Have you seen The Sopranos? The Wire? Deadwood? Six Feet Under? The Shield? All fantastic, and leagues better than the dumb extended universe stuff that's flooding the TV now.
I'm of the opinion that it is better than Breaking Bad as well
Kid named Finger
waltuh
I can think of several things wrong with the show from the point that Howard dies onward
But can you think of any points that are actually accurate, or are you gonna reach to find issues?
Could you please elaborate?
@@SheevTalks It's my favorite show too, and I'm thrilled to find somebody that thinks it's better than breaking bad. However: Season 2 is boring. It's got some good moments, but overall, nothing happens except for in the last 2 episodes. Season 1 is pretty good honestly, but it is SO difficult to get through the first time around. All Jimmy does in season 3 after "Chicanery" and season 4 before "Wiedersehen" is sell cell phones, and it's pretty boring. This is why Mike is basically all I think of when I think of season 4. Season 5 is a solid season, I can't lie, but it's not perfect (nothing is obviously). This isn't the show's fault, but bad choice road is overrated, and the finale is underwhelming. Season 6 is the best season in my opinion, and season 6B is the best the breaking bad universe ever gets. I genuinely think this universe peaks in "Plan and Execution." Unfortunately, in between Nacho's death, and "Plan and Execution", the show gets a little boring for me (I can't wait for people to tell me I have a short attention span, although that whole attention span thing has been proven false). After episode 9... Fucking "Nippy" happens... Nippy is the worst episode in season 6 in my opinion, by far. "Breaking Bad" was disappointing, and the cameos were poorly done. Jesse has a good cameo in "Waterworks", but it could be better. Finally, "Saul Gone". It's a good finale, unfortunately, I think Breaking Bad has a better finale. The cameos in "Saul Gone" are actually perfect imo. I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe Chuck's could've been better, but it was still good. Still my favorite show.
My point in all this is that Better Call Saul isn't perfect. It's slow, sometimes the pay offs aren't good enough, and great episodes are few and far between sometimes. There's plenty of issues, BUT I LOVE THE SHOW STILL!
I think most can agree the last 4 episodes are the weakest of the series
It should've ended with "Fun and Games". Then it would've been perfect.
