    I was not a regular reader. Then I started to read kindle on my daily commute and “low vision” feature of kindle helped a lot in rough conditions and, now I am reading up to 15-20 books per year. Thanks, Kindle

    Saves hell lot of paper. I use kindle to first-read books and if they turn out to be impressive then buy its paperback version! Saves me from selling paperbacks that were good but not keeper material.

      I agree. I plan to do the same too, but preferring hardcover, albeit with whichever books I've been thinking too much about*.
      I primarily use an e-reader because I have no space at home for print books, to the point where I have trouble handling those, and use a full-on paper tablet, a Likebook Mimas, so I save even more paper because I also can save other documents, and can read DRM protected e-books from multiple services (in my case, Kindle, Kobo, Play Books, and OverDrive), albeit at a cost of battery life.
      *For up to a few months at a time, there would be a specific book I would think too much about. Examples for me include volume 1 of "The Fuzzy Princess", the first "Mr Wolf's Class", and "Wolfie Monster and the Big Bad Pizza Battle".

    I remember the days from old Mrinal Saha videos, I love the evolution videos have gone through. Especially the intro was really good, looked extremely professional. Speaking about Kindles they aren't just a thing for me, the whole experience of going to a bookstore to get new books or going around the secret nooks and crannies of Mumbai for book scavenging is just a completely different experience as well it's a different kind of pride to uphold when you have your read book collection in your bookshelf and then maybe share it with someone interested. The physical books aren't anything that are gonna be replaced for me anytime soon!!

    With physical books...
    You have to buy a shelf, clean it regularly, look for possible fungal growth, plus the book's binding will let go after a certain amount of time. Books are heavy, immobile, environmentally bad and they require time to manage.
    I read 60-70 books per year, I absolutely adore paperbacks and I have a beautiful shelf because I like to show off.
    Books are also MUCH cheaper on kindle, especially books from foreign authors.
    All in all, if you read a lot and don't want the hassle of physical books then just buy a kindle, its much better.
    NOTHING BEATS PHYSICAL BOOKS IN AESTHETICS AND APPEAL, NOTHING EVER HAS, NOTHING EVER WILL.

    Being as avid reader I have read both physical books and e books. I love physical books in general.
    The things I personally dislike in kindle is
    1. The screen size. The 6 inch screen size is way small for me. I read very fast. So in order to fit much content in one page in kindle I have to make the font size smaller but then reading becomes harder.
    2. The flip page. I don't know the feature was made to replicate the feeling of physical book. But I have come to dislike it very much. In place of this I would like the continuous scroll.

    • @sangramjitchakraborty7845
      @sangramjitchakraborty7845 5 лет назад +2

      E ink displays in general can't have continuous scroll due to ghosting. The flashing is not emulating physical books. It's simply refreshing the display to show the next page. That is unfortunately a limitation of e ink displays.

      I used to feel the exact same way until so many odd years ago when I received the First Gen Kindle Fire as a Christmas present from my little sister. Now my feeling is they are equally important to me. Physical books don't need batteries! Kindles don't need Night Lights. When I have a particular book I absolutely cannot put down, but am too sleepy to continue physical reading, I switch on text to speech and continue listening until I drift off to sleep. I can listen to my books while walking around the house doing house work, while walking the dog, while driving the car. If I come across a book in the store that I like, but not sure about committing to the purchase, I find it on my kindle and download a sample of the book first. If i'm interested in a show/movie and find out it was based on a book or article, I find that book or article on my kindle and have instant access. My fav authors/book series have future releases coming up, I can pre-purchase or immediate purchase and have instant access too. Physical books give me bragging rights, I can look on the shelf and think I read all those, I can be bored and pick one up and revisit it. Same bragging rights in my Kindle Fire though. Thumb through my library with a sense of accomplishment. Instant access to ALL my books. Bored in the grocery line/doctor's office, instant access through my Kindle App on my phone to ANY book I want. Borrow free books, purchase books, download free books to own, have books recommended that I might be interested in. I love my Kindle Fires, I love my physical books, and I love my Kindle Apps on my phone my and android tablet. Comic Books and graphic Novels are on a whole 'nutha level on my kindle fire. My nursing books allow me to take interactive tests through my kindle app on my android tablet. Pastor rattles off scriptures in church, I don't have to thumb through my physical Bible, -I go straight to the scripture in seconds via the Bible on my Kindle Fire. Forget my kindle fire in the care, instant access to the scriptures via the Kindle App on my phone. The only thing for me is, I don't understand why people settle for JUST the Kindle E-Reader, when there exists the options of all the extra stuff included with the Kindle Fire/Fire Tablets/Kindle App.

    The experimental browser isn´t completely worthless. There are some websites that you can visit to read blogs or to actually download books from directly, as long as they are MOBI, PDF or some of the other formats Kindle can handle. The reason that it isn´t a full browser is that the kindle is not made for browsing. It doesn´t have the speed to process the data nor the memory to handle it all. It is a reading device, after all. I have the Kindle Basic 10th gen and I really like it a lot. It has made reading a lot easier to do. I live in Mexico and it is challenging to get books in English. I´m able to get books instantly and read anywhere. The new Kindle basic has 8 GB, same as the paperwhite, so as long as I don´t get it wet, it works great. I do recommend getting a cover as it helps to protect it and it makes it easier to hold. I don´t understand your last point of not being able to listen to audiobooks. It has Audible built in. It also has VoiceView built in. No, you can´t get audible books outside of the Amazon system like you can books, but they do have a membership program that allows you access to audible books. Unless you need waterproofing, the Kindle Basic a s great choice.

    I disagree with Mrinal on this one, unless you are already hooked up on ebooks there is no way they can surpass the feel of a physical book. Talking about Kindle I can mimic almost everything on my normal Android phone through apps with little to no difference. And moreover with no support of audible and screen refresh rate of 2010 era, Kindle seems like a half-baked product so unless it is being very heavily discounted I see no reason why anyone should buy it.

      Yes you can. That’s what I do with mine (10th generation paper white) you can go to this website called ‘pdfdrive’ and send the books in PDF format directly to your kindle.

    What about the basic Kindle version? 8k now shows on Amazon?

  • @speakingfreely6770
    @speakingfreely6770 3 года назад

    Your calculations are down right wrong. First of all why is the cost of kindle 12k? Simply because you bought a paperwhite? The basic Kindle now has back light and perfectly good for reading. It costs 6800 in sale. With Amazon card I get another 5 percent off which comes to around 6500. Any selective book you read is easily 500 bucks these days. Go into slightly advanced books and prices sky rocket. Then there are other legal sites which provide ebooks for one time dirt cheap subscription. Long story short, you inflated the price of a Kindle because you wanted a fancy paper white with internet when most people can make a hotspot from their phone and use that. The price of Kindle is 6.5k when bought on sale. Price of 12 books is 6000 and most people who call themselves readers read more than one book a month. In short the Kindle starts to pay for itself in the very first year. Usually after 5 to 6 months of usage. Your math on this is down right wrong because you couldn't resist the fancy paper white edition. You could have bought oasis and said Kindle is not worth it. Bottom like is oasis and paperwhite is for folks like you who get tempted. But the basic Kindle as a device is fully worth the price you pay for it.

      You will get a kindle id when you register your kindle with amazon. Convert any ebook to kindle friendly format like .mobi and then open your mail. Attach the .mobi file to an empty mail and send it to your kindle id.
      Open your kindle.
      Turn on wifi or hotspot. The book will show itself there. Download and read.
      P.s -- Turn off the wifi or hotspot or turn on the flight mode. It helps in saving battery :)

    When you Audible is not available for Kindle in India Does it mean that it is technically not available on the Kindle models in India or is it because the Service is not available

    • @techwiser
      @techwiser  5 лет назад

      In the U.S, Amazon sells a version of Kindle that can play audiobook from audible. That's not the case in india.
      Although this could change in future, as audible is now officially available in India.
