Christian Soldier yeah, it happened to my truck and the bastards wouldn’t even have a recall. It cost me another $900.00 to have them replaced. Otherwise, it’s been a good truck.
Scotty Kilmer I’m looking to buy a 2010 Chevy Tahoe. It’s a retired Georgia State Patrol vehicle. It has a 5.3 with 180,000 miles. They are asking $5,900. The guy selling it has a good reputation for his vehicles. What do you think?

My dad drove a 79 Ford in the 90s was still running strong when he gave it away in the early 2000s might still be out there in the California orchard fields
codeeLS6 my dad started a landscaping business in 1994 which I grew up working in. Bought a brown 94 GMC Sierra in 1996 that he kept until around 270K miles. It was the first vehicle I drove when I turned 16. Turning radius like a school bus but solid.
I'm 35 years old and still have my 95 chevy Cheyenne stepside I drove in high school. Need to get the money to go through and fully restore it. Love these trucks
Nice truck, happy to here the story behind it. I am an original owner of a 1988 chevy silverado with 389.000 km on it now. It has been a great truck, mine is two tone as well red and gray. It is in excellent condition. I have driven this truck coast to coast in Canada and still going strong. Love my old truck.

@Jeremy Marsh Actually, RAM and GM both suck. Poor quality control. I had many Fords, and had way less problems. My 99 F250 had 398k miles when I sold it to my neighbor, and he still drives it. Only major fix was a transmission at 275k miles. My 05 Focus had 200k miles when we sold it to my wife's brother, and he's still driving it with almost 300k miles! Same engine and transmission. Had a 94 Ranger and sold it at 150k miles. Ran great. Bought a Dodge Ram after that and dumped it 6 months later, even with taking a loss. Piece of garbage. I have an 05 Focus wagon now, with 107k miles and runs like a top and a 2014 F350 diesel with 66k miles. Just saying.

Was a great little truck even if it was beat up a bit and served as a church truck for a decade or so ... I changed the mirrors (were broken) and the windshield wipers on it. Very utilitarian, simple to maintain truck.
I paid 800$ for my 1999 Ford Explorer. She ran great, got me through high school and the year after graduating. Sold it for 1,500$ :) I miss it already.
That 97 tahoe is super easy to fix even my wife can do it with some simple RUclips videos, and parta for it are supre cheap even someone who makes minimum wage can buy parts to fix it.
Oh man I miss my 91. I had a short bed just like this one. I sold it after doing a cam swap and headers. I miss it every day. That truck never left me stranded. RIP Chevy dude
It’s gorgeous I absolutely love these trucks. I have a 97 with 200000 on it and it still runs and drives like new. They were built (like a rock) and they really were the last of the real trucks.
What ever you do.Don`t get rid of that 90 Silverado. The motors on these year chevy pickupslast $300000k+ miles.G.M. quit producing the 3rd/4th generation5.7 liter cause their reliable and last 10+ yrs.
That's a fine truck. Best years for the Chevy's. No nonsense and easy to work on. Just keep the rust away and you've got a long term runner. Enjoy your gem.
I had a 1989 3/4ton when I sold it it had 387000 miles and still looked and ran great, recently picked up a 1997 for my son were rebuilding it ,itll be his 1st vehicle love these trucks
Gerardo Becerra Fuel injection goes bad, but there’s an up grade kit for around $300. Door hinges go bad after a few yrs, easy and cheap fix. Interior door handles break about every 3 yrs or so, another cheap and easy fix. Fuel pumps go bad frequently, easier to lift the bed than to drop the fuel tank, pumps run around $100. Trans is good for around 125k mi. I have 309k on the original engine, never been apart other than the fuel injection under the intake plenum.
@@kriswright1022 Transmissions in these last just as long as the motor if you keep up with the routine maintenance. 125k would be considered a very short life for these
Scotty and 90% of his viewers seem to think LS engines are trash, haha. Not to mention the 6L80/6L90 and 4L80 transmissions were bulletproof. Aside from electronics chevy offers great v8's and transmissions. Just stay away from anything that isn't a truck, Corvette, or Camaro. Their sedans are crap these days.
@Dave Smith Bud, I have a 2010 Camaro 2SS Transformers Edition with 249k trouble free miles as original owner. With regular maintenance these God damned cars are the most reliable tanks on the road today.
Not the S10. I owned 2 Oldsmobile Bravadas 92 & 94 (Its prerty much the same thing) and by the time they get 150K plus they fall apart in front of your face. Mostly electronics
I drove a 1991 Chevy Silverado from high school through college, absolutely loved it. Learned a lot about engines fixing it myself. Also, I was curious as to the inflation of $16,149.00 to 2021 and using “usinflationcalculator” it showed that amount to be $31,978.11. For anyone else who was interested.
Definitely great trucks back then. I have a 92 with the 4.3 V6 mated to the 5 speed manual transmission. 489,000 miles on it and it still runs. I've never owned anything so easy to work on too.
@@calebwhite6173 power and towing capacity is very limited. We towed a horse trailer with two mules and although it was able to do it, it definitely struggled. Its a solid engine but in a full size truck its best served as a commuter vehicle to save gas. Towing or hauling heavy loads (especially in hilly areas) i would go with the 5.7 or at least the 5.0.
In my experience every extended cab back door I've seen is 1/4 gone unless its garage kept or driven in the summertime only still one of my favorite pickups my dad had a '94 for the longest time
mgtowfish73 my dad owns a 1994 Chevy 1500 step side and it has 306,000 miles on it. My friend and I are fixing her up and getting it running this weekend. Been in storage for about 8+ years. These trucks were ACTUAL TRUCKS.
My daily driver is a 98 GMC sle. Bought new in 98 .307000 miles and just got back from a weekend trip pulling a 4300 lb travel trailer. Cant beat that 5.7 !
1993 Chevy Cheyenne, i bought it as a temporary ride to save up for a newer car. But as time went one i realized how much of a reliable truck she really is, never failing, always getting my out of floods and even thru the hurricane( here in Houston). She got the paint job she deserved cause she a keeper
Seeing that interior and those gauges took me back to driving around with my grandpa. He had an almost identical truck to this and the interior was exactly the same. Nice to see thanks for uploading!
I wish my '90 k1500 Z71 that my dad bought new looked that good. Mine 325,000 trouble free miles. Only 2 fuel pumps & had to pull the dizzy to replace the pickup with another AC Delco part. No leaks, never been in engine. Oh yeah replaced ac compressor @ 300k w/another Delco, everything else still works the same as it did in July 1990 when I was 14 years old. Damn they sure built em good back then. When new my dad got 17 city, 21 hwy with the 350, turbo 700R4, 4x4 & 3.42 gears. Not too shabby if you ask me.
Sweet truck! I've seen this on Facebook in one of the groups for this generation pickup. I've had my 1990 black stepside since new, similar condition but about 90,000 more miles on it. Real clean and still runs strong. Great trucks!
Fishermanguy44 the thing is to is that most of these are work trucks, no one thought that they’d be gems in the future, and Chevys “Anti Rust Protection” didn’t work so well so they rusted to hell. I really hope I’ll be able to find one. My GREAT grandfather got an 88” top low the roads. He loved it but took 0 care of it and it sat in the rain and snow outside and rusted out, the bed fell of, the frame split in half, But it still works and plows the roads to this day. I want it, but there’s no way it would pass emissions. If the cops saw an 88” with a mossy emblem and a wooden box as the bed, it’s over for you.
@@85fordman Yep any of these vintage trucks restored to original and immaculate condition go for 10's of thousands of dollars to buyers or collectors in the Jackson/Barret auction sales all the time !!!
73-87 is the square body. Square body guys will rip you a new one for getting them confused. Lol. These are the "GMT400" trucks if I'm not mistaken. The OBS trucks
Eaub Felangy that is incorrect Chevy truck golden age for cars was late 1950’s until about 1972/73 The best truck era for Chevy was the third generation 1973-1987 chevrolet c-10 square body , after 1984/85 they went to fuel injection. All down hill after that. Naturally aspirated carbureted engine is the most reliable , and easy to fix Fuel injection-sucks
@@youthmanrecords420 I meant it was the last years before gm started to suck, the 40s and 50s were GM's best times in general because their trucks were the best compared to rivals.
IRC 1988 Roy Orbison you got it! This truck gets me more excited than my new 2018 6.2lt 4x4 GMC Sierra SLT. Very, very nice truck! Congrats and enjoy it!
@@rowellmason2477 I don't know but my late papas 94 Chevy Country Coaches sounds awesome with that 350 ci. rumble sound of the exhaust sure lets me know of its raw horse power under the hood !!! Just gotta someday give it more TLC especially in the paint department then again I may just give it a professional camo wrap and a Rhino lining job as well !!!!
My neighbor has 3 of these trucks one with the same color one with black and red and another with green and a goldish color and the red and black a real beautiful exhaust
I'm glad you drove yours. That's why they make the damn things. I'll drive my vehicles until they fall apart at a stop light, then I'll go buy something else. Always something worthwhile coming down the road. Not everything new sucks.
I had a ‘94 extended cab 4x4 which was the same generation as this one in the video. It was the most stable, best all around truck I’ve ever owned. Mine had bucket seats with the same interior and upholstery pattern as the truck shown. Those were the best seats GM ever produced and the best seats ever put in any half ton truck. I ordered mine with a pretty strong level of options but it still stickered under $25k.
It's nice to see older Chevy trucks still running around on the road kinda takes me back to the America I remember growing up in. As for the reliability of them all I can say is I myself own an 89 C1500 and at 244,320 miles on the odometer she's still running like a champ 😁
Thats crazy im sorry to hear about your truck being stolen and your gramps passin. The same thing happened to me, my grandpa passed and im going to pick up his 98 silverado he promised me in a month.
I have the same truck but in that solid blue and a long bed. I've DD'd it for 5 years now and have only had to replace the starter. Has 226k. They really are the best that GM ever built.
I used to have this exact same truck was excellent 350 700R 4 never had no problems with it you'll see a lot of them on the road today more than any Ford of that era these are some of the best trucks ever built built ,as good as any Toyota if not better.
My father used to have a 1989 Cheyenne single cab 4x4. Living in a rural area he use it all the time for his personal chore. The truck having passed the 20 years marks, we were still going deep in the forest chopping wood, filling the bed up to the roof (with side boards obviously). Sadly the truck was put to scrap after an incident with the brake lines, nobody got hurt but the good ol' GM/Chevy was totalled.
Well most young guy make most classic trucks into kid toys and break different things on them to where you have to completely rebuild them so you can’t pass the vehicle on or they end up in junkyard because they wreck them while showing out. Also they put really dumb tires and rims like even Scotty said about big rims.
Had a brand new 1992 chevy Silverado z71 back in the day a real good truck loved it! Wish they made trucks like that again!! When trucks were truck.. you still could work on them just a v8 with basic efi system!!!!
This is actually about the same price as a 2019 Silverado WT 2 door, long bed with the 5.3 and with plenty of options. Which is the closest you can get to this truck
If you know the right people you can buy them pretty cheap. I have a buddy that orders 30 or 40 at a time and gets a fleet discount. Crew cab v8 for 25g. 29 Canadian all said and done
That's why I've hung onto my '97 GMC 4x4 ext cab stepside. Has the 5.7 with159k miles & in tip top condition. Any time I get that new truck bug I hear Scotty saying 'don't do it".
Beautiful truck! Great work keeping it original (minus the few parts you said that weren't) Also, thank you for not putting some gaudy rims on it, too!
I have a 95 Cheyenne and a 97 Silverado and I love them. This model truck will go down in history as the best work truck ever. Now this 1990 is one hell of rare specimen. Not very many at all around in that type of condition. I will keep mine as long as I possibly can. Would take this truck over a decked out 2022 Silverado any day.
@Jay Edwards it's all about fancy options and gadgets now. Reliability has taken a backseat in today's auto industry. Heated/Cooled seats and a huge touchscreen radio are useless if the truck isn't dependable.
I had a 1992 k1500 extended cab with the 4.3v6 and a 5 speed, the truck had over 300000 miles on it when I got it, the only thing it needed was a fuel pump, got it for 1000 bucks. Still runs strong today.
You're breaking my heart 💔! Had that same truck, longbed, same beautiful color scheme, bought new at the local Chevy dealer in 1989. Same interior, had the 350 auto. WOW, that's one I wish I'd kept!
Still got my dad's, same as what you mentioned. He passed in 2008 and it had 77,000 miles on it. I've been driving it for about 10 years now and it's up to 163,000 and still runs strong. Wouldn't get rid of it for nothing. Nicknamed it Ol Blue.
@@travfdy To me its almost too loud, with no real big performance gain. Would make more sense if it was actually fast. All he needed was a nice glasspack or something along those lines. Just my opinion, not trying to hate.
I own a 1990 chevy 2500 scottsdale.with no power windows or power locks 2 wheel drive only no 4wheel drive no ac right from factory and I REALLY LOVE IT!!!
I’m a proud owner of 1989 stepside k1500 manual transmission . it’s my baby best truck ever I think this model of the chevy trucks is underappreciated You beat me to the video I wanted to make one :)

It’s gorgeous I absolutely love these trucks. I have a 97 with 200000 on it and it still runs and drives like new. They were built (like a rock) and they really were the last of the real trucks.
That's why I love my 1990 Silverado.

That's a fine truck. Best years for the Chevy's. No nonsense and easy to work on. Just keep the rust away and you've got a long term runner. Enjoy your gem.

That's a sweet truck! I have a 97 Z-71 got almost 350,000 still going strong.
What are the most common problems you ran into your 97 truck ? I’m looking to getting a 97 off of a family friend
Got a 97 3500 Cheyenne myself. 178,000. Runs great.
Kris Wright 97 GMC Sierra 231k original transmission
@@kriswright1022 Transmissions in these last just as long as the motor if you keep up with the routine maintenance. 125k would be considered a very short life for these
Ah 1990 back when GM cared about making good vehicles.
So true.
Nah, they stopped caring in the 70's. The 80's is when they started making crap and they never looked back.
@blackandgold51 oh yeah that is a classic!
@Dave Smith Bud, I have a 2010 Camaro 2SS Transformers Edition with 249k trouble free miles as original owner. With regular maintenance these God damned cars are the most reliable tanks on the road today.

you see more japanese trucks from 80’s and 90’s than gm’s though
@Joe Casson I'm pretty sure they do. I see them everywhere. Still rolling.
@@brock1120 True that but Japanese trucks WILL NEVER have the comfort of a Chevy and Chevy's ride smoother. Sorry you tried, Chevy is a Kings truck 😉
Now 38,015 for 2023.
Definitely great trucks back then. I have a 92 with the 4.3 V6 mated to the 5 speed manual transmission. 489,000 miles on it and it still runs. I've never owned anything so easy to work on too.
Looking at getting one of these trucks. Does the 4.3 feel like it lacks power? Can it tow a trailer?
@@calebwhite6173 power and towing capacity is very limited. We towed a horse trailer with two mules and although it was able to do it, it definitely struggled. Its a solid engine but in a full size truck its best served as a commuter vehicle to save gas. Towing or hauling heavy loads (especially in hilly areas) i would go with the 5.7 or at least the 5.0.
Even in the rust belt, these 88/98 trucks are still on the road in daily use!
In my experience every extended cab back door I've seen is 1/4 gone unless its garage kept or driven in the summertime only still one of my favorite pickups my dad had a '94 for the longest time
I’m 16 and love my red 94 extended cab step side. The interior of the trucks were amazing and comfortable. I’ll never sell it
But the frames are trash
mgtowfish73 my dad owns a 1994 Chevy 1500 step side and it has 306,000 miles on it. My friend and I are fixing her up and getting it running this weekend. Been in storage for about 8+ years. These trucks were ACTUAL TRUCKS.
The 350s in these trucks are basically unkillable. The body will rust around it!

Wow, you know your getting old when a 1990s vehicle is considered a Classic... 😉 👍
Yep, it’s 30 years old 😳
@@85fordman Shoot me... lol...
In 1990, a 1960 anything was a classic. Funny to think 30 years in our youth was history, but in adulthood, 30 years are memories.
This truck was made 5 months before I was born.
Classic is a old latin word for better
My daily driver is a 98 GMC sle.
Bought new in 98 .307000 miles and just got back from a weekend trip pulling a 4300 lb travel trailer. Cant beat that 5.7 !
1993 Chevy Cheyenne, i bought it as a temporary ride to save up for a newer car. But as time went one i realized how much of a reliable truck she really is, never failing, always getting my out of floods and even thru the hurricane( here in Houston). She got the paint job she deserved cause she a keeper
I'm sure the original owner would be more than happy with how this guy's treats his truck, I would at least it's insanely beautiful.
Love the old C/K’s! My dream truck!
Fishermanguy44 these trucks are just very simple and nice, they work and it’s very smart to just buy older trucks
Millions of 1967-72 Chevy trucks were made too. Yet nice ones sell north of $25k. Same with squares. These will follow and are.
And? There were a lot more squarebodies made than these, and you see what nice ones sell for.

That truck is a tank, I lean a Ford person in this topic, but most GM products from 1970-2000 are really good, the 90s were GM's golden age.
Eaub Felangy that is incorrect
Chevy truck golden age for cars was late 1950’s until about 1972/73
The best truck era for Chevy was the third generation 1973-1987 chevrolet c-10 square body , after 1984/85 they went to fuel injection. All down hill after that.
Naturally aspirated carbureted engine is the most reliable , and easy to fix

This was my dad's truck for a long time and it was a good freaking truck man.
Hard to find an original Chevy that kids haven’t ragged out.
If you follow the OBS world there are tons of OG's out there dropping trucks with big wheels as well
The old guys always gotta complain about what we do no matter if it’s imports or American it don’t matter we will always get hate it’s whatever
Well most young guy make most classic trucks into kid toys and break different things on them to where you have to completely rebuild them so you can’t pass the vehicle on or they end up in junkyard because they wreck them while showing out. Also they put really dumb tires and rims like even Scotty said about big rims.
Computer Junkie big rims is part of the culture I got a 89 c1500 on 24’s with a 4/8 and I haven’t broke mine
Didn’t say all. How old are you Brandon?
Had a brand new 1992 chevy Silverado z71 back in the day a real good truck loved it! Wish they made trucks like that again!! When trucks were truck.. you still could work on them just a v8 with basic efi system!!!!
Boy I wish trucks still had MSRP stickers as affordable as this one!!
This is actually about the same price as a 2019 Silverado WT 2 door, long bed with the 5.3 and with plenty of options. Which is the closest you can get to this truck
