Majestic Elephant Project is an ethical elephant project situated by a beautiful stretch of the Mae Taeng River, north of Chiang Mai that provides a caring home for two female elephants, now enjoying their retirement from a hard life of working in logging and later elephant riding. During the day, the elephants wander the jungle hillside trails, foraging on native vegetation. They also enjoy covering themselves with mud and scratching their bodies against large rocks by the river where they love to swim, float, and submerge their bodies while using their trunks as snorkels.
Following the Saddle Off program, Majestic Elephant Project embraced the opportunity to adopt a more compassionate model where the elephants can live with dignity, roam, forage, and be admired by guests in an atmosphere of respect.
Spend an exciting day with elephants in nature at Majestic Elephant Project - walking with them along mountain jungle paths, feeding them fruit, watching them foraging in the forest, covering themselves with mud and swimming in the river. The day ends with a whitewater rafting adventure down the Mae Taeng River.

Asian Elephant Projects is an organization dedicated to supporting small, independent elephant tourism operators in the transition to ethical and sustainable programs, which provide a more natural life for the elephants. Under the Saddle Off model, owners agree to follow a set of guidelines designed to ensure the welfare of the elephants under their care, and in turn, we provide the knowledge and resources to support these ethical elephant projects. We help the Saddle Off projects by providing them with tour guides, transportation, booking management, and marketing. We also provide veterinary care and elephant food deliveries. Asian Elephant Projects is run by the experienced team at Save Elephant Foundation and Elephant Nature Park, founded by Saengduean Lek Chailert. For over two decades, Lek has been rescuing injured, neglected, and elderly elephants, while leading the movement towards the ethical treatment of elephants in Asia.
