Dan Aykroyd is a national treasure!!! Talented and a thinker. Might think some wild stuff but....at least he's thinking. He's asking questions and seeking truth and knowledge! He's been a gifts to generations!!!
Years ago was at the Luxor in Vegas with my kids. They were like 10 and 12 years old so it was in the late 90's. We were going back to our room and when the elevator door there was Dan all by himself. He was dressed in his ghostbuster getup . He never said a word to us personally but went immediately into his character with the walkie talkie, etc. He got off a few floors before us. It was the coolest thing I have ever experienced . Will never forget it
Aykroyd's being humble about the discovery of John Candy. Danny entered John's name in for Second City tryouts without his knowledge. He came along to support his friends Danny & Valri Bromfield & was shocked when they called him on-stage. They hired him that very day. He is so missed.
As a big Aykroyd fan, it is great to see him in an extended interview. Adam does a great job asking pertinent questions, and Dan does what he does best. The man has amazing recall, and he is honest to a fault. Thanks for such an interesting and very human show!
Loved Akroyd in Dragnet, Great Outdoors, Tommy Boy, and Ghostbusters growing up. His straight-faced way of delivering his lines comedic gold. John Candy and Steve Martin, also a great Thanksgiving comedy in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
There are just a handful of elder statesmen comedians and comedic actors. Mr. Aykroyd is one of them. He's a good guy and the chemistry in this interview with Adam has a lot to do with two decent dudes chopping it up. Never thought of using the word 'important' in connection with The Blues Brothers, but Adam is right. The combination of elements is genius. Always said that, if limited to one movie (the stuck on an island scenario) it would be The Blues Brothers. Comedy, music, chase scenes, redemption.
Adam - ask Dan next time you see him about if John Belushi ever told him about meeting another musician in the hallway of a band audition for Second City in Chicago needing a band for their new show "Saturday Night Live" back in the early seventies I think, and having a long chat with him. It was my cousin and I heard this from his own mouth! His name was Jake Viscum and he was from Joliet Illinois (where I grew up). He said that John asked him about Stateville prison and my cousin Jake responded, "ya but we are not worried because Illinois District 5 State Police Headquarters is right across the street!" He said that he told John all about his band episodes in the Joliet area! Also in Joliet off Rt 80 (going to the now, Chicagoland Speedway as well as Route 66 dragway (where I used to race), you have to go through am very little town called "Elwood" Sounds familiar Hmmmmmmmmm!!! I miss Dan's Blues hour radio show so much. I would gladly pay a subscription fee or buy a box set on a hard drive just to hear the reruns today or even better pay to hear a new show in podcast format sharing tunes. Saw it at the theater - age 7. Inspired!!! I blame and thank him for getting in film unions for 20 years.
Dan's part of the tapestry and soundtrack of our lives. His solo work and collaborations with others added happiness to hundreds of millions of people around the world. Who knows? it's possible that off world beings also find this primitive human entertaining as they research what makes him a unique specimen. Seeing Dan, especially as I approach my 60's, is like seeing an honored family friend that has only ever brought joy.

This was a long episode to get trough. 5 minutes in I stopped it because I had to watch the diner scene from The Blues Brothers. Then I watched the music store scene. Then I watched the car chase, but the clip on RUclips ended too early, but I have the whole movie in my iTunes library, so I went and watched the entire car chase, ending, and credits. Now I'm back. Great episode so far!
One of the best episodes of Joe Rogan is his interview with Dan Aykroyd. Dan believes it all. And can talk about it! The Blues Brothers is one of the greatest movies ever.
LOVE Crystal Head Vodka❕ 💀 Had no idea Dan Ackroyd was associated with/created Crystal Head. Speaking of Ackroyds.... Not sure if you'll read this Dan. I met/partied with your brother Peter years ago (late 90's). He was here in Sequim, Washington for an outdoor concert at the Airport. He was the announcer for Delbert McClinton. (Bonnie Raitt backed out last minute due to family emergency.) Anyhoo.... Got some good "taken from a real camera before cellphones" pictures. Your brother Peter is quite a character & Party Animal. I'm glad you have Dan on. The Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters, and, to my mind, Neighbors were three of perhaps four iconic comedies of the period, the fourth being Stripes.
I haven't seen Dan Aykroyd in years, and I usually wouldn't go out of my way to leave a comment on You Tube about it, but as he's gotten older his resemblence to my father and his brothers is absolutely amazing.
I so love Dan Aykroyd and I think so highly of him I remember hearing about what he did immediately after hearing about John's death he immediately ran a long distance to where is he knows that Belushi's wife would hear about John death from him
Aykroyd on SNL and the "BB's" movie was obviously legendary and Ustinov quote-worthy. But I wish more people(including Adam), would cover Dan's further work into the 80's like "Dr. Detroit" and other post-70's gems. Even with all of the UFO speculative rants and Sammy Hagaresque liquor salesmanship, Mr. Aykroyd is one of the most articulately gifted comedic minds since Newhart.
I think I was 10 when I would lay in bed listening to radio and love line would come on at maybe midnight. I really enjoyed it and Adam’s voice feels so familiar to me. It’s so obvious that Howard and Adam were what primed me to be a lover of podcasts!
Easily THE BEST interview I have ever seen of dear Mr. Aykroyd!! AC & I are the same age & I have thought way too many of the same thoughts ie: his Loveline waxings. Again when he said he recalls where he was when Lennon was killed, & Belushi dying were maybe only a couple that I recall. Uncanny. Great talk guys👍🏻👍🏻
Saw Dan and John and the band in Dallas back in the day. My girlfriend and me and my drinking buddy went; I think the tickets were $25.... it was an absolute hoot..... it was the best concert any of us ever saw and the entire crowd was enthusiastic laughing all the way out of the auditorium after the show! The buzz was amazing - the band was tight and polished, Belushi has his schtick going and Dan stayed cool with his harmonica. We were totally goofed by the show without the aid of any street medications. A natural high - and memories that still make me smile. 😎
wtf, I just looked up Dan because a documentary came on about "Nothing but trouble". So after watching it, I find out this was recorded yesterday, when I heard about the documentary. This prob happened as I learned of the movie. Dan is genius and master story teller.
This man is a true legend ! All the people talk today about Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, etc....... but in the end of the seventies with disco, all these artists were "has been" ! Before the SNL, Dan Aykroyd had a pub playing blues music in Canada and always known bluesmen. When he created The Blues Brothers, he wanted the best band : the Mg's Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn, Wille Hall from Stax, Matt "guitar" Murphy, etc..... With John Belluci and his more rock inspiration, they became more than actors, they became the saviors of the original american rythm and blues : with their Blues Brothers Band, they dynamited classic song"s and in the movie, they found all those forgotten people to show what are Blues and Ryth'm and blues in America's history !! (as he said in Green Onions !!). And more than a legend, Dan Aykroyd is a very good person too !!
Notice how Ackroyd constantly spreads credit to other people he's collaborated with? GREAT interview!

Saw it at the theater - age 7. Inspired!!! I blame and thank him for getting in film unions for 20 years.
❤ Huey Lewis ❤
He used to come to our small town a lot (Sequim, Washington). His parents lived here.
Thank you for Everything that you do Mr Ackroyd. Always a pro first. No hidden agenda with this great man. Super talented is right Mr Carolla.
Everyone alive is part of the tapestry
I don’t think a lot of people understand how important Dan is he is one of the all time legends never has he acted like a fool such a humble gracious man I respect this man immensely a true legend
Only if you had an idiot box in your house, now called a flat screen overlord. You must have watched a LOT of TV to make such a comment. Sorry, but I don't put up any TV celebrities / sports people up on a pedestal.
@@quantumpotential7639dont know how I have lasted this long in life without your opinions thank you so much for your outstanding insight and experience
@@quantumpotential7639 well said, dick. 😊
Thank you Adam! I love Danny! I never get enough of him. He's a genuine good guy. 💞 Aw, I just watched Uncle Buck again too. John Candy was one of the best, ever. 💔 Adam, you're a great interviewer. You ask a question and allow the person to speak, no interrupting. Good stuff!
I live in Newport Rhode Island.
And for some reason Bill Murray will show up
at a bar randomly and guest bar tend for the night.
Dan Aykroyd one of my favorite actors of all time but also stand-up guy!😊
Dan Ackroyd... just when you didn't think you could love him more.
The world will truly suffer when he is gone.
LOVE Crystal Head Vodka❕ 💀
Had no idea Dan Ackroyd was associated with/created Crystal Head.
Speaking of Ackroyds....
Not sure if you'll read this Dan.
I met/partied with your brother Peter years ago (late 90's).
He was here in Sequim, Washington for an outdoor concert at the Airport.
He was the announcer for Delbert McClinton.
(Bonnie Raitt backed out last minute due to family emergency.)
Anyhoo....
Got some good "taken from a real camera before cellphones" pictures.
Your brother Peter is quite a character & Party Animal. Hahahahaa
DELBERT MCCLINTON ❤

I know, right??? He's so underrated!
GREAT GUY in person too! He's really nice
We all partied into the wee hours after his concert. He even signed my CD & concert program.
Lee Oskar played harmonica for Delbert at that concert too.
(If you're not familiar with Lee Oskar - he's famous for playing harmonica in the song: Lowrider. 🎵🎶 Low 🎵 Ri 🎵 der🎶🎵)
Lee not only gave me his harmonica (spit & all) he actually carried an etcher and signed the harmonica for me!
Hot summer night. Partying with Delbert McClinton, Lee Oskar, Peter Belushi...
That was a great night❕❕❕

Another stellar show Ace. This podcast just keeps getting better.😊
Dan Akroyd interviews are the best. Thanks so much for having him on.
Who?

Blues Brothers is the single greatest comedy of the 80s which puts in high in the running for greatest comedy movie of all time.
My cousin Jake said that after the movie came out, he wanted to get a hold of John to ask him about it but he never got the chance because Belushi OD'ed!
Why wasn’t the orphanage tax exempt?
@@N2YTA If you're looking for plot holes or laughs in 80s comedies, we're going to be here for hours. Funnier the movie, the bigger the plot holes.
Dan Aykroyd was under utilized. He didn't always take the lead role, but he is right there, standing shoulder to shoulder, with the all time greatest.
Was a fun listen. Can't wait for him to come back to talk about cars!
Ackroyd is a part of my life, like Steve Martin and John Belushi
Super talent and genius
Ackroyd is a comedic genius in so many ways. Eish he made some new films, so versatile
I'm glad you have Dan on. The Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters, and, to my mind, Neighbors were three of perhaps four iconic comedies of the period, the fourth being Stripes.
Little things: Notice how Dan says "search engine" instead of using the brand that has become synonymous with it.
It's a window into how he thinks.
Dan Akroyd is no doubt one of the best entertainers of our time. A living legend. Sometimes I wonder if he’s even human. He’s a Phenomenon.👍🏻😎🙏🏻
Blues Brothers is a movie that when you’re flipping channels and you see it, you watch it from there on out.
Dan, I sure miss you and John together. The best comedy team every!
Great interview! The Blues Brothers is probably my favorite movie.
I haven't seen Dan Aykroyd in years, and I usually wouldn't go out of my way to leave a comment on You Tube about it, but as he's gotten older his resemblence to my father and his brothers is absolutely amazing.
I so love Dan Aykroyd and I think so highly of him I remember hearing about what he did immediately after hearing about John's death he immediately ran a long distance to where is he knows that Belushi's wife would hear about John death from him
What a pro Dan is, always loved his work!
Only difference between Dan and Newhart is Aykroyds funny.
True, he’s very well read and has a lot to say. They could’ve covered any subject and made it interesting.
I think I was 10 when I would lay in bed listening to radio and love line would come on at maybe midnight. I really enjoyed it and Adam’s voice feels so familiar to me. It’s so obvious that Howard and Adam were what primed me to be a lover of podcasts!
He’s a very sweet and kind man and that’s his nature.
Dragnet was an underrated movie
Underated performance for sure
Read em their rights. Read em their rights.
South Park did a great show on John Edwards.... Well worth the re-visit.
Dan Aykroyd is the most likeable man in Hollywood. I didn't know he was THIS humble. I love him even more now.
Nothing but trouble is a masterpiece of a movie
Such a darn class act!!!
It happened again that I thought "wow, Adam has some interviewing chops" - great insights.
Mr Ackroyd is a gentleman and a scholar !
