@@TheGirlOnABike My C-Tek died after just a few years. Designed in Sweden, made in China. I prefer using (Japanese) Shorai lithium batteries, and the dedicated Shorai charger. The batteries last 6+ years with a bit of care, and hold enough charge to start after 6 x weeks or so, without charging. I find some of our battery issues relate to having multiple bikes, and not riding all of them regularly enough, and the lithiums make that easier. Much lighter weight too of course.
I'been using a CTEK as well for ages. Batteries can be tricky, even when cared for and not old at all. Best thing you can do for your bike's health is riding regularly. Difficult with winter salt on the roads, though. Happy days, Günter/Nürnberg
I remove the batteries from all six of my motorcycles. Bring the batteries inside my house and charge them in the basement. Cold temperatures can do a lot of harm to batteries.
The charger you displayed is a 7AH unit with no motorcycle mode. It is not ideally designed for use on a motorcycle. The current is a bit high. CTEK have a range of lower current chargers or chargers with lower output or with motorcycle mode designed for motorcycle batteries. These are great products (and I have one on every bike) but probably important for people to understand that batteries have a maximum ideal current delivery rate too high and battery life will again reduce. CTEK have a great range of these so we need to make sure we use the 7AH on your car for example and use an MXS 5.0 with motorcycle mode or a smaller XS 0.8 for the bikes for best results. Hope this helps.

My video is designed to show people the range of options hence why I mention my 15 year old one and the cars, boats etc. I very purposely didn't mention a specific model in the video as I think it is important people do the research themselves for what is best for their bike / vehicle and not just presume that the brand and model I have is best. It's more to educate on the need ❤️

Here in the US, they're Battery Tenders and they are for cars and bikes. My Royal Enfield came with the plug already installed on the battery; the dealer most likely installed it. It is a must have for every home to have, at least one. I've always had one, thanks for the info, a lot of people will benefit.
Good info Vanessa. I grew up around equipment and working with this kind of thing all my life. But what you are telling people is 100% correct. My bikes are generally parked for about 6 months during our winters here and I always put a battery maintainer on them several times over that period to make sure they stay fully charged. I don’t think it gets cold enough where you are over winter, however if a battery here looses to much charge then it will freeze the battery in a lead acid type battery, if that happens the chance of your battery being ruined is high because the expansion from freezing can break connections between the plates. A fully charged battery will not freeze at -40° though.

I did a whole tour on a Fazer 600 with a dead battery. Bump started it after every stop. Got very good at parking on inclines. Optimate One Duo does Lithium, Lead Acid and GEL batteries, is only £42 on Amazon. Uses SAE connector or croc clips. Same ability to smart charge or resurrect a battery as the NOCO and the CTEK but AFAIK most affordable.
Great video, well put. Since where i live we have reasons to use similar battery boosteres because of our winter climate. When it gets -20 C the battery don´s stay charged so long on my quad.

And like Vanessa mentioned. When to battery is ok and if you have a "smart" battery booster and it has a port so you can connect it to scooter overall ocr jacket. so you stay warm. But again. If you forget to take in the battery when its cold you only have to blame yourself if you qoud, bike wont start

Hi Vanessa, I have been a biker 50 years and counting and never driven a car, I'm not saying those aren't good but I have never had one and unless you not using your bike for months at a time I haven't found the need for one, I only have one bike and its my only form of transport, I have found if I disconnect the battery it holds charge much longer, but even if I don't disconnect it and haven't used it for a month it starts first time every time, and the battery is about 4 years old, it's a varta German battery which I think is the best out there. I've used a battery conditioner for nearly 20 years. If I recall correctly mine is an Optimate (not sure if they are still available), This had a weatherproof connector (pre USB days) to keep the battery in a decent state. This not only charges the battery but conditions it as well. I've not ridden for a while though even though my bike is still plugged in but if my health ultimately allows me to get back onto two wheels (unlikely) the battery should be in a half decent state even though I may not be. I use the optimate lithium smart charger for my crf1100L. It's great! I have denali lights and denali had an upgrade to software.....the lights won't come on until the engine is running! That really helps with amp draw!
I’ve got three ctek chargers, two for my bikes and one for my car, they are the first generation ones from about 7 years ago maybe longer. Now this is just my experience with this product. I’ve found if left on for a prolonged length of time it kills the battery. Only last week went out to my Harley which had been on the unite for three months and although the lights indicated a full charge the battery would not turn over the bike. I’ve had similar issues with my cars unit too. What I think is the issue is My Harley and my Jag 5ltr need max power to crank the engine over and the charger ain’t fully topping them up, ( just a theory) I have a pile off old battery’s in my garage of all makes and fit which I’ve tried to recondition using these units , 50% will show the battery full conditioned and 50% can’t be reconditioned, the 50% that say the unit is ok still don’t work. I was told by a mechanic to only leave them on for a short period say once a week for a day. I have a old optimate charger on my BMW RT and that I can leave on for months without issue. This is just my experience.
Wow that's really unusual. I'd probably actually recommend calling ctek and getting their thoughts as I've never heard this. My vehicles live on them and are happy as Larry as they say. With the old batteries, once their insides get to a certain point of crystallisation etc they will get beyond repair even if the machine thinks it's helped so that surprises me less. I'd be very interested to hear what ctek think on the other point though 🤔 thanks for sharing
My GSXR 1000 K7 was manufactured 2007 stays on optimate all the time I dont ride it for winter never replaced it still working that makes it 17 years old
Smart chargers are all well and good if you have electricity in your garage/shed, I live in a 1st floor flat with a garage in a block behind the flats, the only way i can have electric in my garage is by using an extension cable hanging out of a window and trailing it across the car park and that's no good for long term. Solar power is a possibility but is that ok on an AGM battery ?
yeah that does make it tricker. It is possible to get solar for these but the risk will be the system being stolen. With the AGM, yeah they need to be maintained in a slightly different way, but all of them can be charged and maintained with a CTEK, you'd just need to check the model.
On another note Vanessa since 2012 and the first efi ktm exc I have been running a capacitor unlined permanently on all my race bikes and rally 450 so that if the battery dies u can still bump start your bike as the capacitor will hold enough power to run efi pump , and ifs happened in the middle of a desert ,and it works a treat.
Ah nice. That's a good shout. You have to be careful with the damage a total flat gives lover term but amazing to be able to get it going in the desert. 💪
@TheGirlOnABike you can even take the battery out completely if it fails and capacitor will run bike fine obviously you need to bum start them , been running them for years racing aswell 😉 bike hack lol.
Wish I could do this. But unfortunately my bike is parked outside my house on public road. As dont have access to driveway or garage. Luckily, I use my bike all few winter, so I don’t necessarily leave my battery low.

Does not bother me too much, as I ride all year round and dont tend to let battery go below recommended Voltage.

Bike batteries are tiny compared to a car battery. So after you run it down it's cut down to half of it's already meager charge. A soft battery is really hard on your charging system too. After 3 to 5 years of service, replace them with a care in the world.
At some point a battery will fail, it only has so many "cycles". Use quality battery, only start your bike when "needed", maintain the battery indeed with a quality charger, there are a few, even relatively simple not too expensive ones (I am not mentioning brand names ! ). My batteries last between five and ten years on the motorbikes (AGM type nowadays), 15 years on my car (cheaper batteries). Yes, I do ride, not every day, but including hot summer holidays, and not in winter when salted. Especially on modern vehicles with parasitic loads like alarm, radio, etc. you need a charger constantly connected in the garage. Despite my warnings as well, a lot of riders I know do not do this, and need a battery every two years, and they keep buying cheap batteries, which also maybe are not quite up to the motorbike vibrations etc. I still amazes me that not every biker knows this.....
Solar options also available. they work well in cloud cover in the winter. "Pig Tail" is the best option. 10Watt trickle panel pushes out up to 15 volts. Thin and can be mounted on suction pads indoors on your window. though most are ip64/65 rating. Good tip.

i think - too much gadjets, plus it have lion battery - its not very safety on the drilling road or on crash the bike. How to burning electric bikes and cars - i saw on youtube ^) i dont want to see this in real. for example - warming sun light. temperature more 60 c lion battery will explode. dangerous. i use handmade terminal to 12 wire and usual electric pump any. p.s.why you didnot show your belly button as usual ?
Oh gosh. The risk with a tiny lithium battery on a motorcycle is tiny tiny. Please remove thst worry. Many of my bikes have them. Even my rally bike and I've raced in 52 degrees heat in the desert with no problems. Very different to the huge car batteries ❤️

I avoid that by riding my bikes 5-7 days a week. Going on year 3 with stock battery and still going strong. 🏍👍

I bought like 5 of those SAE cables on EB.. The wire comes out the side of the bike .. I can plug into the tender in a few seconds.
It's ace how many brands are installing them as oem now. Perfect for heated jackets too

You can use a small solar powered battery charger. They are small enough and discreet to prevent pilferage

Oh gosh. The risk with a tiny lithium battery on a motorcycle is tiny tiny. Please remove thst worry. Many of my bikes have them. Even my rally bike and I've raced in 52 degrees heat in the desert with no problems. Very different to the huge car batteries ❤️
