    Is it just me or the sound mixing could have been better, I was barely hearing the guitar. The other traditional instruments sounded great tho, loud and clear

      The guitar is mixed low so as not to drown out the traditional instruments

    About Wagakki Band's musical instruments
    "WA" means Japan. "GAKKI" is a musical instrument.
    (1) "KOTO" (a large, flat instrument of about 6 feet)
    The ancestors of "KOTO" came to Japan from China about 1300 years ago.
    "KOTO" has been used without changing its shape.
    The body is made of fine paulownia wood. A wave-shaped groove is carved on the back of the body. This is to make the sound sound like the inside of a violin. The strings are made of silk thread.
    Put "Kotozume" on your fingertips and play the strings.
    (2) "Shamisen" (instrument like a banjo)
    Generally, the "shamisen" is used as an accompaniment instrument for quiet and light songs. (Current ballads, songs like light pop)
    However, performer Beni plays a special shamisen called "Tsugaru shamisen".
    "Shamisen" is evolving in various styles all over the country. Among them, "Tsugaru Shamisen" has a fast and powerful sound and a unique playing style.
    It seems that the reason why this style was created is that TSUGARU-SHAMISEN was born in the extremely cold region of northern Japan (Tsugaru: place name).
    People with handicaps (mainly visually impaired) who lived in harsh natural environments lived. They earned money by letting people listen to songs and performances. They created a unique musical style to save their lives. It can be said to be an instrument with a sad history.
    (3) "Wadaiko"
    "WA (Japan)" + "TAIKO (drums)" = "WATAIKO". And the pronunciation changes from "WATAIKO" to "WADAIKO".
    Like Shamisen, "Wadaiko" has evolved uniquely in various parts of Japan, and there are various playing methods.
    There is a band called "Kodo" which is famous as a Japanese drum performance group. They are doing performance tours of Japanese drums all over the world.
    If you are interested in WADAIKO, we recommend listening to the performance of "Kodo".
    (4) "SHAKUHACHI" (bamboo instrument like a flute)
    Until about 60 to 70 years ago, units of length such as "Shaku" and "Sun" were used in Japan. (The pronunciation of "sun" is like a shortened version of "soon")
    1-shaku = 30.3cm (It's a coincidence that it's almost the same as 1 foot)
    1-sun = 3.03cm
    "Hachi" is the number "8".
    And the average length of "SHAKUHACHI" is "1-shaku and 8-sun (about 56cm)". The "shaku and 8" part became the name of the instrument.
    The shakuhachi is made from bamboo grown in nature. In other words, it is not an instrument created by humans. It is a tool that allows humans to use the shapes created by nature as musical instruments. Therefore, the shakuhachi is a different musical instrument one by one, and it is a simple musical instrument with a hole in the bamboo. It is said that it is a very difficult instrument to use because it is simple. (Beginners struggle for a long time just to make a simple sound)
    For that reason, I feel that the skill that Daisuke controls the shakuhachi without feeling any stress is amazing.
    "From Japan" (This is a sentence using a translation app. I hope the intention is conveyed correctly).

    Wagakki Band is AMAZING. They have been around awhile, and they have been cranking out the hits.
    They put on the best shows. They are world-class superstars, but sadly, they are not that well known in the west.
    Check out more of their songs, you will be amazed at what they can do. I have a huge crush on Yuko san. She is a goddess.

    They have it all - more metal songs, more folk, calm, cheerful like this one, jazz ect.
    When professionals with passion for music, come together and make a mix of folk and modern, it can only be amazing.
    First quick suggestions that come to my mind: Howling, Sasameyuki, Tengaku, Atena no nai tegami, Bou getsu, Ikusa, Tono monogatari yon yon/-kyuu yon/-go go, Tomodachi ninaruyo, Homura, Izana, Watashi shijou shugi, Tsuioku, Iroha uta, Tori no youni, Sun wheel, ..you know what, just pick anything. 😉😊

    You have now discovered the world's gratest band 🤣
    This song is about the westernization of Japan, which happened during the Meiji Restoration. Despite having an upbeat, oriental track, the song contains rather dark themes, mentioning guillotines and ICBMs. In addition, the lyrics state things such as "Songs of lament go unheard" and "This is a banquet inside a steel jail cell".
    WGB constantly puts together big shows, One of Japan's most popular bands at the moment. Everyone is professional on their instruments, All songs are good, no one is equal, Metal, rock, jazz, ballads, funny songs, sad songs, etc.
    WGB is an 8 piece band:
    Yuko Suzuhana - Shigin, vocals (Founder of WGB)
    Machiya - guitar, vocals (Arrangement)
    Beni Ninagawa - tsugaru shamisen (Three strings (guitar looks like))
    Kiyoshi Ibukuro - koto (Japanese National Instrument)
    Asa - bass
    Daisuke Kaminaga - Shakuhachi (Bamboo Flute)
    Wasabi - drums
    Kurona - wadaiko, Taiko (Traditional Drums)
    Can highly recommend:
    Hangeki no yaiba 2018 Dai Shinnenkai) (lyric provided)

    "Iroha Utha" Manatsu no Daishinnenkai 2020
    Great reaction by the way 👍

    Koto = the large zither
    Tsugaru Shaimsen = Beni's axe
    Shakuhachi = 8-hole flute
    Waidako = Japanese traditional drum.

    Thank you for your reaction to Wagakki band. All of them are master class musicians. And amazingly their live is better and richer than studio version! They are very good at different music genres, metal, punk, jazz, pops, western-Japanese fusion and pure traditional. So too many recommendable songs. I would say for your next one, Bring me to life (featuring original singer Emmy Lee and Yuko, but very very different and amazing one), Chieno Kajitsu + Somosan Seppa (Fruit of wisdom + Monk’s call to the pupil, ‘hey solve this problem’), or Hakushu Kassai ( Big applause and shout).
    Definitely, the live version should be chosen in my idea. Love is always better and richer than. You know this rarely happens in music business, but in Wagakki as their norm. Other people’s recommendations look great!

    After watching mashiro no uta about a boy playing shimasen, I'm now amaze by hearing shamisen when played, it stands out for me.

    "Wagakki" means Traditional so they are a traditional band mixing traditional with modern music. They are a sound all to their own. It's hard trying to look at them with a western perspective and understand it all...just let it flow , since you are into anime you are more than 1/2 way there!
