@@mrenigma1564 War cannot disappear though. That's the point of the ending. Paradis would have broken into civil war anyway or the Paradis people that would have colonised the empty world would one day have fought one another
0:21 I cannot get over this part, seeing the Attack Titan's face before Eren transforms. It's so genius and parallels what we saw this happen to Reiner and Bertholdt when they first transformed in Season 2

@@s888r So in Season 2 Episode 6, Reiner and Bertholdt reveal themselves before Eren and everyone else that they are the Armored Titan and Colossal Titan, respectively. Right before each of them transformed into their Titan form, there's a small flash overlapping where their face is, showing their Titan form. The animator here did the same thing for Eren's transformation and it's just the perfect choice considering the song playing here, YouSeeBigGirl, was played when Reiner and Bertholdt transformed in that episode

Dont get me wrong Mappa is extremely talented. All of the stuff they put out is impeccable but damn imagine if they werent working on such a small deadline

A big problem with this scene I have in the anime is they don't give enough time to set for certain moments, like when Willy is giving his speech and basically says Eren's mantra, "I do not wish to die, and that is because I was born into this world", in the manga you see Eren's eyes flare up because he's thinking about how him and Willy could maybe understand each other and come to some kinda agreement, maybe there's a way but then Willy goes onto say, join me and together we'll destroy those island devil's, then Eren shuts his eyes and understands that it can't happen, there is no understanding, in the anime you just see his eyes go up for a second, if you blink you'd probably miss it
As a manga reader, I completely agree with you. When Eren heard the sentence, "I want you to help me kill the devils on Paradise," his expression changed to bittersweet, and he slowly closed his eyes, realizing that the hope and peace they seek are nowhere to be found. When Eren opens his eyes again, his mind is already made up: kill or be killed.
Small details truly matter and it is sad that mappa had to rush everything because of the time frame they were given. It's not their fault but they did what they had to. But Part 2 and Part 3 were quite outstanding compared to part 1.
I actually have to disagree, I feel like his eyes shooting upward is pretty easy to see, it’s actually hard to miss tbh. I also believe he shuts his eyes, grins, and puts his head down in understanding in the anime as well, please do correct me if I’m wrong though

@@arjaydeleon5996 too be quite honest I'm more so upset with the directors and higher ups rather than the animators themselves, they were doing their job, in the anime Eren smiles after he shuts his eyes, whereas in the manga you get a different interpretation that Eren is more so saddened by what he must do but knows he has to do it because there truly is no other way, keep in mind this is after he asks Mikasa what she is too him so Eren at this point in Marley was really hoping for any other outcome, any other answer, any other solution that could change the future he saw
Not to mention Eren's giant forehead 😂
0:29 the detail of the declaration of war tying with the death of innocents is fantastic honestly. 0:44 how he smiles knowing he’s getting what he wanted, plus the perfect timing with the score… 10/10 chills af wish this was how we got it. AND THE SCREAMING AT THE END

Holy shit, hearing the blood-curling screams without any other audio for the end credits was such a huge missed opportunity to drive home the idea that what Eren is doing is horrific.

yes the theme YouSeeBigGirl would have been amazing there, but honestly, stop just thinking about goosebumps, this OST would fit everything.
The real fact is that, it would make NO SENSE to put this OST at this moment, at this scene.
This OST is about trahison, sadness, the pain of losing friends, family.
Not about a declaration of war literally against our enemies
Don't you realize this is the moment where eren officially set his plan in motion which will ultimately kill 80% of world population? There is no turning back after this and he doesn't really want to do it, he just had no other choices. Does that not sound sad/tragic enough for you?

@@crazydog266 This is not how we look into this, at that moment, most people who watch the show didn't read the Manga, so trying to connect future events to this current event is not logical, the writer and director want us to feel that this is a war on Marley, not a rumbling on 80% of the world..

I'm glad that Mappa found their stride with Part 2, but damn I wish we got better quality with the first part.

While I absolutely adore the new animation( great job on that), I feel like the ost does not fit the scene. I've seen people say it's sad but that's not the right emotion for this scene. Paradis is striking back after so long, so unless u feel bad for the Marleyans, its anything but sad.
That’s one way to look at it… but as always with attack on titan it’s all about perspective. Paradis isn’t doing a good thing by perpetuating cycles of violence and killing innocent civilians. It’s not about feeling bad for one side it’s more of feeling sad that both sides continue with violence. When does it end?
This, people think adding the most popular songs like Youseebiggirl and AttackonTitan makes every scene better, but it really doesn't. They did that with the first Levi vs Zeke fight too

i love how the same song from that transformation in season 2 plays, its almost like reiner hears it too, and immediately realizes what is *actually* going on, not just eren attacking, but the next step in the cycle of violence. including that shows the literary depth of the two characters and the incredible artwork. even if not entirely by you, its still a great video that was put together. well done

Personally, I think Mappa did a perfect job animating this scene. I do love all the extra details added, like the transformation itself. I am not a big fan of the part where he reaches down and grabs Willy. It seems a bit out of place to me. It really wasn’t supposed to be an epic scene, it was to show a message that Eren has now become the Devil of Paradis, and he will kill innocent lives if he has to. You are supposed to feel grief and disappointment, but instead that small clip makes you feel hyped up for something you shouldn’t (We all thought this scene was epic anyways but that wasn’t the intention). The music also makes it seem like Eren is the good guy. He isn’t. Overall I feel like Mappa did a perfect job adapting this scene and getting the overall setting and tone of it across. Though I can’t lie, the animation in this was amazing, I just don’t think the extreme nature of it fits.
Something can be epic and tragic at the same time, you even say that the original gets you hyped up and sad simultaneously. I think this animation here shows even more tragedy, because you see it from the crowds perspective, from the bystanders perspective, rather than just focusing on the titan. You see how truly awesome the titan is to the people it will kill, and feel how its awesomeness strikes fear. This is a better animation choice by far in my opinion. The original lacked punch, when the scene is meant to hit hard.

I do agree the added scene of the family would have been a nice touch to the scene.

YSBG playing isn't just epic. That moment in S2 was also very tragic. Just like this moment.
Eren grabbing Willy also happens in the manga and the actual episode. But MAPPA did a terrible job directing that particular moment where what's happening is barely visible. The animation here is much clearer.

From now on this is how we're titling those fuck-ass "fixing _____ scene from _____ show" videos. Acknowledging that most if not all professional animators can produce some top-tier shit if given enough time and good working conditions is essential to talking about disappointing animation. Remember that in the years right before Mappa became the gold standard for anime, it was Studio Bones, (mostly for their work with My Hero Academia s1-s2) but the way the industry works rn isn't sustainable. Mark my words, in a few years Mappa is gonna start going downhill and everyone is gonna start calling the animators lazy/bad at their jobs. When that happens, everyone needs to call that shit out and criticize the studio heads who picked up too many projects, forcing the team to spread out too thin and meet impossibly tight deadlines.

I didn't notice in the anime that he transformed while holding hands. And the imagery of the family being blown away mercilessly is reaaallly important for showing eren's horrible action

Eren and Zeke needed the outside world to join forces with Marley so they could destory the world's navies and armies in one spot. Zeke was the one who suggested that they attack Paradis to the Marley military now remember and he at the time was in contact with Eren.

You're right. Youseebiggirl was THE moment of betrayal. The moment most fans realised they were watching something bigger than they had originally anticipated. It's perfect for the scene it was used in. But I don't think that means it should be used for every hype moment. Let each moment set itself apart from the betrayal scene rather than piggyback off of it.

This and requiem Der morgenrote (4th outro, but like the FULL version) playing during the rumbling, since it's literally what played when Eren first controlled the founders power back in season 2. Someone did a motion Manga of this and it when translated and played during that scene gave me the biggest chills

the old and less detailed version makes up what it lacks with the dinamic they were able to give to the scene, look at the part where Titan eren picks up the guy until he eats it, the position of the head too makes us understand more the difference in size between the normal human and the titan and overall gives an epic vibe of a whole other level

if season 4 had more noticable parallels of season 1 that would've been so fire.
I actually like the MAPPA version more, it hits the feeling and gets the job done without any hesitation.
I honestly don't get why people insist on youseebiggirl being used here. If anything I'm glad they left that OST behind after S3. Overuse is definitely a thing here.

@@alpguy4865 Youseebiggirl was used when Eren was betrayed, the meaning of the song is betrayal, sadness and tragedy, it wouldn't make sense to put such an OST on a scene about a declaration of war. To be frank youseebiggirl goes with any scene, so yet again it wouldn't make sense to put it in that scene where Eren is fighting a war against Marley.
@@Nottotti-eg9nf Its...not really about betrayal. The interpretation can be vary depend on your own view. The lyrics itself doesn't specifically a story about betrayal.
"Is that the angel who flew down from the twilight sky? Is that the devil who crawled out of the crevice?" can be use to describe Eren as whether he is the "hero" or the "villain". "With sorrow and confidence in our hearts, we show the will to move on" can describe Eren's view of "keep moving forward". Even if it is about betrayal, you can also argue it's Eren betraying Falco's trust.
The ost's name itself is mostly nod to Ymir (You, See in japanese is "miru", so you"miru").
song is associated with eren being betrayed.. i think people are over reacting about not using this song tbh

I advise you to watch some of the ViDocs or Interviews of Mappa's director Hayashi yuchiro so you can understand that yes they experienced time constraints but some decisions like this were made because the Hayashi simply preferred it as he wanted to show just how lifeless Eren had become.
I don’t think he did this well enough for it to be worth it. If they want to do this, they should remove the focus from Eren and put the focus onto the people he’s impacting. They failed to show the tragedy in this scene. And because of that, Eren’s apathy has less meaning.
And people still say Eren is wrong for doing the rumbling, like bro, the whole world literally declared war on Paradis island, what was he supposed to do, just let them kill his people and feed their little sisters to dogs ? he should've completed that shit 100%

I liked youseebiggirl use for this scene cuz when I saw that animation from soul in 2018 I thought it's absolutely fitting. This song played when Eren had learned that his friend Reiner is the Armored Titan, the one who attacked his homeland (with Bert obviously). So this song playing when Eren doing essentialy the same thing seemed fitting to me.
"If MAPPA was given enough time" I don't think that time would resolve all problems with the adaptation. It's one thing that the animation is kinda meh, but the direction (cinematography, music use) is the thing that disappointed me the most.
More time absolutely would have. The animators and directors are pushed to their brinks and still put out the work we got. Just think if they had a proper schedule and more creative freedom.

There's no reason not evidence to lead us to believe that had they had the time they needed the scene would have been any differently paced or edited. If they had enough time they would have used it to polish what they had already animated, not add more stuff.

Just my simple opinion. Wit studio's work gave more feelings due to the complete animation and music direction. Whereas, mappa felt lacking in those aspects due to their tight time constraints.
If mappa had more time, they would have made it as good as wit. Even i heard a mappa animator tweet about how they have to show their work to their higher ups knowing that it is incomplete in certain aspects but the higher ups wont say anything due to the pressure of the production committies above them who are all after that money and want to release the episode asap.

I think some people are using the "time" excuse to somehow justify mappa. It's not fair to do so, they know deadlines and still choose to animate these many shows per year, not having time is their fault
