Even today, AAA games require the gpu to have a high vram when playing 2k and especially 4k resolution. 3080 is powerful enough to run a lot of titles, but 10gb is not always enough. Besides, when you buy a high-end gpu, you dont expect to replace it every generation.

Need at least 400 USD for a decent used MSI 3080, but even then XFX 7900 GRE new is at 560 USD with 3 years warranty. Also 10 GB vs 16 GB of VRAM, if you're playing 1440p above, 10 GB in 2024 definitely not enough. If you're playing with 1080p better buy 3060 Ti at 210 USD.

Yeah, about used cards. I bought a used Asus TUF 3080 and it died after a year. I'm going to send it to Northwestrepair when I get around to it. Then I bought a 3070ti Suprim that was in an editing rig, but the previous owner did not use a brace. So now, the PCIe x16 interface is not in plane with the PCB, but at least that card still works.
Last games I played - shadow of erdtree and Dragon's dogma 2 I had freezes using ray tracing on my 4080. I turned it off and played without a lag. Do we really need this rays?
A lot of people are absolutely convinced that the 3080's 10gb totally restricts it. It is a viewpoint that was propagated by loads of tech tubers. But it's not really true. I know, because I have one!... Yes, the ram IS lacking a bit. I wish it had at least 12gb, and preferably 16gb. BUT... It's actually very very few games that go over the 10gb at frame rates that matter: For example, the 3080 doesn't have enough vram for Alan Wake at 4k... But even with enough vram it would still be running under 60fps, so you wouldn't play at 4k ultra even if it had enough vram... You'd have to reduce settings to get 60fps anyway... And once you've reduced the settings to get 60fps, it doesn't need more than 10gb VRAM any more! The 3080 10g is a beast of a card for 1440p gaming, capable of 4k60 in a lot of titles too, and can now be had for around £300/$300 second hand. I've had mine since launch, am very happy with it, and would only consider replacing it for the upcoming, massively overpriced 5090 or better.
i am an AMD boi, but i gotta admit that 3000 series was one of the best if you compare it to the 4000 series which is meh, but same goes to 7000 series for AMD which isn't much different from 6000 series.

Not really. The 30 series had huge price spikes due to Covid. It was released at around $800 with aftermarkets settling around $900 but soon increased exponentially due to covid. Much like the 3090, spent most of it's shelf life at around 175% of it's intended MSRP.

This is the game developer's fault for not optimizing for AMD GPU. As you can see, in many games RX 7900 outperforms RTX 3080 by quite a margin, this shows the AMD GPU is very capable.

look at total memory bandwidth, not just the clocks. Clocks are only one part of it. Back in the day I saw people making a similar mistake with the GTX 285, by thinking it had a lot of memory bandwidth because it had a 512-bit bus, which was with GDDR3 VRAM.

Ray tracing is still mostly a gimmick and this is coming from someone with a 3080 ti. I rarely ever play with it on as on most games it makes a slight difference while tanking fps.

AMD Ray Tracing = FAIL
Ray tracing is still mostly a gimmick and this is coming from someone with a 3080 ti. I rarely ever play with it on as on most games it makes a slight difference while tanking fps.
