I've watched this video maybe 20 times, and I'd like to know if you had to modify the aftermarket adapter? I bought one and changed it since the comments said the pins were wrong. Also looking at your video, your Original Power supply from HP had 4 pins on the right hand side where the new one had 3 on the left with a bridge. I'm just worried that it would fry the Motherboard if I use it in the original state. Also if you didn't change anything, is it still running to this day with no issues?
I've just acquired a Z240 and was wondering how I could upgrade the video card when I saw the proprietary PSU cables, thanks for posting your video, you've given me confidnece to try this myself.
@Marioxd360 | Tutoriales Hey I understand your concerns but it should be fine depending on your cpu too but you can plug in the hardware specs outervision.com/power-supply-calculator Also from reading images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph15090/114137.png the power consumption was~180W
I’ve did the same installation with a Corsair 600 and the rtf 3050, but whenever I plug it, it doesn’t boot, only the small led close to the power connector in the motherboard turns on intermittent. And I’ve checked, all cables are connected. Did I miss a step?
Pretty much the build I am about to do. Picked up a 3060Ti as prices have come down due to miners selling their GPU stock. Needed a generic base , the early Z240's were the best option for space. Refurb model with i7 6700, 24gb Ram, 256 SSD & 1 Gig HD. I've a 600W cooler master sitting around to upgrade. i7 6700 should be good enough, I've been running a 2600K for years and it is only beginning to struggle.
Truly great video, well thought out and well executed. I was very excited to see it and try for myself. However...unfortunately the adapter in the provided link did not work for me in my HP Z240 full tower workstation. After comparing the plugs I have to the pic on the amazon page it should have been compatible. The adapter that arrived did not have wires in the same places or the same number of wires as the original PSU's "P2" connector. Original P2 connector has 4 wires in it all next to each other with 2 empty slots on one end of the connector. The new adapter has only 3 wires (in different slots than original P2) as well as a small black loop between 2 pins. I tried this with a Cooler Master V1000 and an EVGA 500 PSU, in addition to an EVGA GTX 760 SC. I made sure that none of the pins had ejected themselves as they sometimes do, while connecting all the connectors. After plugging everything in and turning on, the green MOBO LED adjacent to the P2 connector just steadily flashes, no fans run and MOBO is dormant. After removing everything and reinstalling the original HP 400 watt PSU everything works fine again...without a GPU that is. I was at least happy with the RAM upgrade to 16 GB (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B086X2XZ4J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and addition of an M.2 drive (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09VSNPDVH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) as the main boot drive....made a HUGE difference in overall performance. I tried reaching out to the seller for assistance but have gotten no response. I was able to find another adapter that specifically mentions the Z240 as the model it is compatible with www.moddiy.com/products/HP-Z240-PSU-Main-Power-24-Pin-to-6-Pin-Adapter-Cable-30cm.html, hopefully this one will work. @@StraightforwardTech nearly the same setup other than a i think a 3060, 650w psu n i also want to add an extra stick of ram on top after. I did want to ask if it was possible/safe to overclock the CPU?, was hoping it would help a little bit with bottlenecking
I don't see any issue with OCing the chip as long as you have sufficient cooling for it.
Can i Run VR Games on it ?
With a 3080 I think it’s reasonable
hey can I put a zotac geforce gtx 2060 super amp(factory overclocked) in an hp z240 (edit= the hpz240 has core i7 6700)
Hey, yeah I don't see why not.
Wasted potential I would say
probably but still fun to do
pass the 3080 lol gimme
lol bottelneck
ur pc is bottlenecked
You’re not wrong 😅
@@StraightforwardTech rtx 3080 is overkill and bottleneck at the sametime
that being said i wonder how well it would sync with a card like the gtx 980 ti, or the rx 480 8gb
@@neojenshi4055 A faster 6600XT would be good for 1080p HIGH 60fps?
