Each person in the audience is crying for his own reasons. The pain of losing someone beloved is immense. The fact that though their pain, no one even sighed but suffered the tension of the lyrics, makes Celine a real human and a great artist. The seconds after the song's end are magical. Noone dares applause and ruin this painful silence. It's magical.
I remember the day she sang this on Oprah... March 12, 1997. I had literally just come home from the hospital were my love, best friend, and soul mate had died after a long battle with cancer, and turned the TV on in time to see this segment.
I saw it too. I'm from Montréal and we all know Céline since her beginning and we knew about her niece tragic story as well. Fly is a translation of Vole from her album (d'eux). As you know, it's almost impossible to translate exactly in another language a song. I saw her singing only once this song in french because it's in her language and it's more personal. D'eux is the best French selling album of all time (male or female) so she sang the song on concert but she was never been able to face the crowd at the end. At the end she says in French leave your skin of misery, go find the light. ruclips.net/video/iNb_zJs_274/видео.html
My son passed from this earth to Heaven on April 20,2007. On his 17th birthday . He was born with a congenital heart defect a heart so sick that surgery was not an option . He never spoke of pain or illness of any kind within his self . Never complained but I know he was in pain everyday he didnt have to say I knew it was devastating to watch my beautiful son fight for his life so hard for 17 years . To watch your child die and myself I administered CPR for more than 45 minutes I just dont understand why God did not give him my breath I begged God to give it to him I miss him so much I would give anything to touch my son again. . To this day in my heart beats the soul of my little boy . There is no greater pain in this life than to watch your child die and you cant do anything , nothing but go to the most gut wrenching pain you could ever imagine multiplied by millions every single day . It does not get any easier . God has my little boy and I still need him . This song is a beautiful tribute to all of our Angel's in Heaven. Till I see you again I'll miss you Daniel wait for me
My brother Daniel and my father Daniel senior left us suddenly and both flew to the other side 2 years ago. The pains is too much, too real, and watch my mom miss them everyday is almost unbearable...I'd hug you if I could cause I really understand you. Songs like this, so beautiful and touching, keep us in touch with their souls, praying one day we'll all be together again
I am so very sorry for your tragic loss!! Sometimes, it's so hard to understand why things happen that we can't understand. But, I can only imagine that our Lord saw your son's suffering and bravery, and then brought him home to Heaven, where he is brand new and happy and well forever and always!! Remember, someday you and your son will be together again, for ever, never to part again!!!! God bless you!!!!
+Amélie Castle La transposition en anglais est quand même bien. Un enfant est toujours un enfant dans toutes les langues du monde, et les larmes qui les pleurent aussi.
This is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL songs I have ever heard. Both in English and in French, even though I do not speak French. I can not keep my eyes from leaking when I hear this song. I know that this song is for Karine but I dedicate it to all of my angels!
I only just discovered this song last week but i regret every day i went without it. This is the most beautiful song for a lost loved one. R.I.P Karine
still cant hear this song without crying my eyes out, so many mothers and fathers live with this pain.. my heart goes out to all of them.. thank you Celine for writing the most beautiful song in tribute to not only your niece, but to all Gods children who pass before their time.
This beautiful song has been composed and written by Jean-Jacques Goldman who signed for Celine her most beautiful songs in french, among the most beautiful french songs ...
I played this song at my moms funeral. Thank you so much for uploading this and thank you Celine for your sharing your beautiful voice with us. I have been following you for over 15 years. You are an Angel.
Fly, fly little wing Fly beyond imagining The softest cloud, the whitest dove Upon the wind of heaven's love Past the planets and the stars Leave this lonely world of ours Escape the sorrow and the pain And fly again Fly, fly precious one Your endless journey has begun Take your gentle happiness Far too beautiful for this Cross over to the other shore There is peace forevermore But hold this mem'ry bittersweet Until we meet Fly, fly do not fear Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear Your heart is pure, your soul is free Be on your way, don't wait for me Above the universe you'll climb On beyond the hands of time The moon will rise, the sun will set But I won't forget Fly, fly little wing Fly where only angels sing Fly away, the time is right Go now, find the light
I can see some comments below; I speak both English and French and I have to say, I don't find the French version any deeper or more emotional than the English one because the words are so resounding and terribly sad here too and it has got the same dose of poetry and pain and so we can really feel how devastated she and her sister's family was after the loss. I like both.
Thanks for saying that. I think lyrically, its the same in either language and its the melody and her singing that brings both versions home. I prefer the English because of the lyrics but the French version she's easily more emotive because its her language.
Nothing can touch the original version she recorded in French, the emotions she put in the French version brings me to tears every single time I listen to it…
I played this at my grandmas funeral, that same year my aunt died, now 20 years later my aunts daughter past away due to covid, we all grew up together, despite the age gap, I think I’m just expressing my feelings, but it’s so hard to lose someone you love
Theres something sad, sweet, bittersweet, hopeful, graceful and just all around emotional wrapped into this performance. She sang it with such emotive vocals, endearing lyrics and heartbreaking echos she hits in the end. A personal song I'm sure Celine takes to heart and how we all can relate to losing someone in life.
this song holds dear, although i didnt loose a child today, in which she was childlike my 96 year old grandma passed away a year ago. It took her 13 days to leave this lonely world of ours she said at times im not dying. Im not as sad now, because shes in heaven
I remember watching this with my mom, shortly after my aunt (whom was my 2nd mom) had passed away from Cancer. There wasn't a dry eye. One of the most beautiful songs and performance I've ever seen. Celine knows how to emote through song
Absolutely breaks my heart :( what a beautiful moving and deep song. Eyes are so teary now. Thoughts are with everyone whose lost someone truly special xxx
I saw this show and this song touched me so much, that years later I used it for my mother's memorial service (she was a tiny, little thing with such a love for life), and there wasn't a dry eye in the place. I also used her "Goodbye is the Saddest Word" which is another tear jerking, gorgeous song.
Lost my younger 18 year old brother 20 years ago this coming August (2022) to Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Have always loved this song. Seeing her singing it in dedication to and memory of her niece, who also suffered from C, just gave the song a whole extra layer of meaning.
For celin Dion and the family's your voice is so beautiful I know it's hard to lose someone's in your heart and your love always be there in their hearts
This song has touched me very deep since it first came out! It has such a beautiful and heartbreaking sense to it, and very calming! I've been a HUGE fan of Celines for a little over 30 years, and there'll never be anyone better!
ok…. gets me every time. Its unfortunate though that a lot of people won't have the chance to ear this song in french and understand it. The french language opens up the throat and the mouth differently so that the voice is much better. If you guys would like to ear it: vole vole ( vole means fly)…Im so happy its my maternal language and culture…its about soul and strength and depth.. Céline is representing that perfectly. Much love to all people writhing about a lost one here.. :)
Are you kidding me? Im from Belgium and i hate french! Its a horrible sounding language! All the songs in french sound so harsh and with forced vibrato and ZERO vocal pwoer, range or soul! French music has always been considered as country side music with small voices and a guitar and fast vibratos! I prefer this celine song in english!
@@leanture3685 I am so sorry that you feel that about the beautiful French language!! I am American and don't particularly care for some of the dialects of English here in the States, but I love the gorgeous French language, so poetic and musical!!!! I am studying French again, and I can't wait to be fluent!!!
I just lost my last uncle on my dad's side out of 6 children my aunt is the only one left. Now uncle Mike is with My Daddy and the rest of his brothers, Mother and Dad. I wish I could have seen him one more time. Anita S.
I cry every time I hear this song. It's beautiful but so bitter sweet. I can't imagine what it's like to lose a child or a niece or nephew but I am happy that Karine is getting her due honor.
You can tell she was so emotional. She held herself so well though. While this isn’t typically my kind of music, I love this song and I love Celine Dion. My youngest sister passed away two months ago; just a month shy of her 16th birthday. This song brings me comfort
You can tell Liette is a strong women. Here's her sister singing a heartbreaking song about her young daughter dying. Probably the most painful experience she's had in her life and she's trying her hardest to keep it together, stay poised, calm, and collected. I can't imagine the strength it requires to manage that. Céline was only 9 ish years old when Karine was born, and they spent a lot of their childhood growing up together and shared an unbelievable bond. I love my twin sister and niece more than anything in life, and I could never in a million years sing a devastatingly emotional song on live television. The song is beautiful and even more so in French. Partir c'est mourir un peu-mais mourir, c'est partir beaucoup.
My great-grandmother outlived two of her four children, one of whom was my maternal grandfather, she said “the *worst* thing in the world is outliving your children.”
This song and Candle in the wind are two of the most beautiful tribute songs ever written. It must've been heartbreaking when Karine died in Celine's arms. I hope one day that they will find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, so that no one else will suffer. Karine looked so beautiful and wonderful RIP.
It is undeniable that the french version is a million times more beautiful but this particular segment is just... there are no words! I am like and idiot crying my eyes out 😭 celine... never have we had a singer like this before or since...
Julie Martin yeah I think the French version sounds way better, the musical notes were written with the French words first so it sounds better. I never cried until I saw this performance though.. it's the whole setting with the family.. very intimate & emotional. She's such a good person and it's obviously due to having a wonderful family of good people. God blessed them so well with Celine. Blessed the world with Celine actually. She truly singing there like an angel.

Fly, fly little wing
Fly beyond imagining
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the wind of heaven's love
Past the planets and the stars
Leave this lonely world of ours
Escape the sorrow and the pain
And fly again
Fly, fly precious one
Your endless journey has begun
Take your gentle happiness
Far too beautiful for this
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace forevermore
But hold this mem'ry bittersweet
Until we meet
Fly, fly do not fear
Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear
Your heart is pure, your soul is free
Be on your way, don't wait for me
Above the universe you'll climb
On beyond the hands of time
The moon will rise, the sun will set
But I won't forget
Fly, fly little wing
Fly where only angels sing
Fly away, the time is right
Go now, find the light
In 25 years, I have never been able to listen to this without crying.
