  • All initial training complete it’s important to get your hawk hunting as soon as possible; the earlier it is hunting for itself the more mentally balanced it will be; seeing you as a great hunting partner not it’s adopted mother .
Two parts to this episode purely to keep each part a little shorter. Here we look at prehunting work with a real carcass. Check out the second half of this video:

I gave my kite a juvenile sparrow pretty early on. He pounced on it and dispatched it instantly from his perch inside. Gave him a ground dove and he tried to make friends with it. They were perched up together. It was barely larger than the sparrow but the way a sparrow moves is just way more tantalizing I guess. Plus the dove was friend shaped probably. I try not to think about it...
Had the most success with a poof ball from a hat as a lure, looks like hair and they can rip the strands out, like they do with prey I just let him rip it up until I traded off (which was an ordeal the first time), I think I only baited it once. Felt like playing with a cat, slightly. Had to get flashy with it.

Hi, Have u ever had a bird what doesn’t like a certain colour? I have a 3 year Harris hawk who seems to hate the colour red or orange, I’ve only had him for a month, do you have any ideas on what could have caused this?

My goldie really doesn’t like people wearing blue in the field , in years gone by he would ignore quarry and just fly off !
