  • Ketamine is an old medication used for anesthesia, but in recent years it's been used to treat depression. It works changing your brain circuitry, and it has been found for many people to be more effective than traditional anti-depressants . While ketamine is not a miracle cure for all cases of depression, it's a promising option for those who are not able to find relief through traditional therapies. It can provide rapid and lasting symptom relief for people with even the most severe forms of depression.

    Ketamine infusions saved my life and allowed me to feel joy again. I went from catatonic, bed-bound , and highly suicidal, to able to have a job and go to school and laugh again. Haven’t been suicidal since my first infusion; completely knocked that out of my head. I’m planning for my future now, which is something I never could have done before. Seriously a miracle.
    Edit: I get a booster infusion every 6 weeks for maintenance for anyone wondering

      @@sweetmissypetuniawilson9206 Yes, I’m aware of ulcerative cystitis. I appreciate your concern.
      In the research literature, you’ll find that UC is associated with people who chronically abuse ketamine recreationally - those who are taking an extremely high dose frequently (typically multiple times every day).
      Even in those chronic severe cases, there’s documented examples of people successfully achieving remission of their UC symptoms with treatment.
      This is not a concern for most infusion patients, unless genetically predisposed to bladder issues, due to the fact that treatments are spaced far enough apart to not have an adverse effect. One infusion every 4-6 weeks is not enough to cause UC.
      We are not taking ketamine every day for months in a row like the people in these studies. And, unlike recreational abusers, patients are under the care of a trained physician. So there’s nothing to worry about. 😊

    Ketamine freed me from the dark clouds of depression, during which time CBT-based talk therapy was extremely effective. After a few years of intense trauma processing, I'm finally free of the depression and have achieved a level of mental health I had assumed wasn't possible. I did Ketamine sublingual treatment last year. PTSD from sexual abuse / grooming and abortions over a decade ago, bullying at work, and increasing suicidal thoughts caused me to walk off the job as I simply could not take it anymore. Combined with CBT and DBT therapy I was functioning again and actually returned to work at the same job. Now I'm considering leaving as some of the aspects of that job are not helpful to my mental health, but I feel very hopeful and open to multiple possibilities, whereas before I was crushed and closed off and very unwilling to consider other options. I actually saw multiple paths that I could take branching off in front of me in one of my ketamine sessions. It was liberating. I hope this treatment is made available to everyone.

I deeply understand the sentiment as I've gone some pretty extreme places on psychedelics and find those places awestriking everytime. Also since they're literally impossible to overdose on as per the LD/50 test, it would deem that huge doses of psychedelics can be quite positive despite the emotional undergoing that can take place on a massive dose. I was cured of chronic "can't get out of bed for weeks just waiting to die" depression from my first injection of 25mg ketamine.
      It is permanent.
      I've gotten down a bit of course sometimes, but never the dark crushing "everything is bad it's all pointless" type. I did follow up injections because even though I was cured, my bad habits remained. The treatment schedule I followed, set entirely by me as I felt I needed them, was to get an injection every week for the first month and then 3 months later then 9 months later, followed up by approximately an injection a year as I felt I needed them. I always felt that it was a waste of money after the first year for sure, and probably all the injections after the very first one were wasted as well, aside from the "conversations" I had with the ketamine consciousness and the things I learned.
      Take that as you will, as nonsense created from whole cloth by my hallucinating brain which is a perfectly valid scientific interpretation of the phenomenon, or as the latest in a long tradition of certain things in nature having a consciousness.
      INFUSION vs INJECTION:
      Infusion=98% of ketamine reaches brain.
      Injection=95% of ketamine reaches brain.
      Infusion is a scam to relieve people of excess money.
      If you're in the Los Angeles area, Dr. Khoi Vu is the holistic doctor who gives these injections.

      Have you tried microdosing? Or just taking a mushroom trip? Microdosing helped my mental health immensely. I've also been in therapy the last few years.
      I get it, though. It helps to have a guide, and to be in a ceremony type environment.
      Yah, you could do some psychedelics at home, but integrating your experience and lessons is just as important as the actual trip. It can be easy to forget those profound realizations, and kind of a waste if you're not implementing the lessons in your every day life.
      Good luck on your journey!

      Here’s one thing: I really would like to try some of these therapies, but cost-prohibitive. How in the world do you get your hands on what you need without risking jail time? In the past (very distant past like 40 years ago; I’m 65 now) I used multiple drugs, including LSD, and especially PCP. I was not surprised to hear that ketamine was a derivative of PCP. I realize now that I was self-medicating back then. But I am too old and too wise to seek out street drugs at this point in my life.

    I did the Spravato treatment this past year and the results were really good; I think IV would probably have been even better. The downside to Spravato is that the number of insurance hoops to jump through are frustrating, and sometimes the specialty pharmacy was not on time with shipping my dose to the doctor's office. I was **required** to have a driver after the treatment, as it would be very unsafe to get behind the wheel after treatment (and given that I was still a little loopy afterward, I wouldn't have wanted to drive even if I had been offered the option).

    I did Ketamine infusion therapy for about a year (last year), and it had way more benefit than traditional anti-depressants (literally no classical ADs helped me). The only reason I stopped is because the doctor started acting a little suspicious and scheduling me for appointments WAY more frequently than I was comfortable with... And this coupled with the fact that insurance does NOT cover this treatment, I had to stop. Luckily I saw quite a large benefit before I had to stop. Just one tip, PLEASE make sure you find a trustworthy medical professional that isn't just out for the bottom line.

      MDMA is pure. And if you keep yourself grounded, nobody will even know that you took it. Perhaps a little note is in order, so that people do not go off and start buying the wrong thing! 😅

The trip you get from the high dose is absolutely amazing, like nothing i can compare it to. I cant wait to do it again tomorrow. The nasal spray is more like a mild drunk, and a completely different experience. I thought I’d noticed an overall improvement in my mental health recently, but had a relapse last week. I’m doing oral ketamine with my therapist and then each day after we have an integration session to make sure while there’s still the tail end of ketamine in my system, I’m addressing what came up for me. I wish it was talked about more the importance of journaling, staying in the Medicine, letting feelings move and come up to be processed, painting/art, music. All of it is so important as well as the Ketamine. It’s still work and you’re doing the work for yourself and for everyone. I just hope people don’t use ketamine as a quick fix when they start to feel down or things come up.
    It so far has been life changing for me. To look deeply at my childhood, trauma and not have it so in my face or be scary to look at it has been amazing. To be able to process and do somatic therapy during the ketamine sessions or integration session is amazing and a great opportunity to dive deep. Not simply take something that makes the pain go away for a little while. It truly does change your brain, how you are/feel and your ability/strength to do the hard work and address/feel all of the feelings

      @@allinaday9882 I would say keep looking and almost interviewing providers. My therapist just so happens to be someone who has sat with Indigenous people’s who invited him into their ceremony, practice and shared knowledge because they knew he respected everything. They gave him permission to take his learning and integrate it into his own practice. He himself has done ayahuasca, mmda, fasting in silence in mountains, ketamine therapy himself. Finding someone who treats this like a sacred ceremony I think is key. Someone who just gives ketamine in an iv bag, leaves you in a room with headphones on and then No integration or talking after and the day after I would say is a practice to avoid. I called on my therapist and needed him a few times (which all was part of my learning and journey of being grounded in myself which I know know and understand through ketamine).
      Most therapist have a free interview type appt available where you can see if it’s a good fit. Ask questions about how they provide ketamine or medicine therapy? Have they done it themselves. Do they do it more in a ceremonial way or just plop you in a room by yourself. All really key and important factors. Remember that this is an investment into yourself. You get to do as much work as you want. I really took 6-8 weeks to go into myself my own space, journal, clean my space and get rid of things, cleaned up my diet, worked out, went into nature, meditated, didn’t drink any alcohol or consume tv/music/news that wasn’t good for me. It’s a chance to take advantage of the amazing benefits of ketamine to unpack trauma or stress but also a good place to wire in things that are good for you and your soul.

      @@azthu1 I used ginger chew or had it on hand because throwing up or feeling nauseous is my biggest fear in life. I did 6 sessions and ended up never needing it. Part of feeling the feelings of my body was part of my healing/lessons. But you also can have your doctor prescribe anti nausea medicines. As for visuals it depends on every person. Everyone’s experience is different. My first 3 sessions I didn’t see anything visually, it was just a sense of knowing what I was supposed to be seeing. Then my 4th session I could see my therapist through my blindfold. I could see everything he was doing. 5th and 6th session I saw some waves of beautiful orange and gold and then some trees. So nothing scary for me and I was panicking prior that I didn’t want anything visual to happen. Your body can listen to you if you set an intention. I was dealing with ideations and fixations that just kept hammering at me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week making it almost impossible for me to function; I had immediate relief after the first session from those specific ones. It's been about 3 weeks since my final infusion and my depression is much better and the ideations are still gone while I am noticing some OCD tendencies and other issues are starting coming back a little , I am also much more aware of my mood changes which make me feel like counseling sessions are much impactful to me. It's not a miracle cure, but I believe it can perform miracles for the right people under the right circumstances from my anecdotal perspective.
      Infusion=98% of ketamine reaches brain.
      Injection=95% of ketamine reaches brain.
      Infusion is a scam to relieve people of excess money.

    Thank you so much for putting out your videos on psychedelics as well as various mental health issues it seriously has helped make clearer what I am experiencing and having that knowledge helps me feel less powerless. Treatment resistant depression, ptsd, anxiety and suicidal ideation led me to seek psychedelic therapies. At home Oral ketamine therapy was the most cost effective option for me as my insurance wouldn’t cover ketamine therapy least of all infusions. And there weren’t any research studies in my state of any psychedelic that I would qualify for. I did find an at home ketamine therapy program that covers Georgia. I have had great experiences with the medicine, the doctors, the coaches’ one on one therapy and the group therapy. It is remarkable how quickly I’ve observed changes in just how I observe my negative beliefs and thoughts and how much easier it is to parse things out while tripping- granted everybody is different so different dosages may be more beneficial. This isn’t just sitting and tripping to psychedelics, no shade, it’s directed trips in a safe comfortable setting to help deal with things like past trauma, negative behaviors, survival coping strategies, etc. in a way that has given me space and objectivity from things that might trigger me to shut down, isolate, implode or panic. I compare the costs to what it’s like having to be hospitalized in a behavioral health center or say the ECT treatments I had.

    It's also that while ketamine acn be used as a poor substitute for psilocybin based therapy, it is mostly being employed like a pharmaceutical intervention - pump people with ket and send them on. Basically like another A/D but working on the NMDA circuitry. Which is why ketamine needs so much followup and maintenance treatment.
    Psilocybin alone is NOT the antidepressant. It's what the psilocybin enables you to do, with proper training and prep work before hand, plus the continued work after the dosing. It takes months to do all this. But it has a very long lasting and robust effect of done properly. If not, it will either not work, not sustain the benefits, or can actually make things worse.
    Another thing to keep in mind: while not universally true and it depends on how it was used (see above) people who use the ketamine route are at higher risk for substance abuse and escalating stretch drug use. Whereas psilocybin is the opposite (as told to me by a researcher in this field)

    I just want to ask someone else this. Did anyone else get worse after ketamine therapy? I've been depressed since I was 7 and I am autistic. Could this be the reason?
    I think it is definitely really useful for some (just not me) and I genuinely think the war on drugs and for-profit pharma isn't helping. That's why people like David Nutt and the researchers at MAPS are amazing. Stuff like full-dosing LSD and mushrooms also cannot be overstated.

    I'd be open to these sort of treatments, but there's no way I could afford it. In Australia, I'm not even sure it's approved yet, and there's no insurance that would cover it anyway. I'd be a bit scared that I'd have a bad experience. I never tried psychedelics in my early 20s because I already had so many traumas and fears, and so many feelings I constantly avoided, that I was nervous I'd not be able to avoid getting stuck amongst them.

  • @BeauregardQuitman
    @BeauregardQuitman 11 месяцев назад

    Ketamine is very effective for me (treatment resistant depression) but the cost of the treatment itself, lack of support network and cost of psychotherapy put it out of my reach. I have grown my own mushrooms and experimented with psilocybin but had negative experiences and gave up on that.
    I would love to try MDMA or even LSD but as an RN I have to be very careful about what I take outside of an MDs supervision and trial sites are few and far between.
    Even for someone who works within the healthcare system treatment options are often out of reach.
    I just discovered your channel and find it very informative and helpful.

    I feel like these are things we should be exploring.
    Ever notice that most anti-depressants/anti-psychotics have a common symptom? S*icidal ideation.....it's supposed to stop that kind of thing, but it makes it worse and more likely to occur. I wonder how many lives have been lost because of that....the irony is through the roof.
    I've been on mood stabilizers and anti-depressants, but they never stabilized my moods or helped me feel less depressed. They took all emotions from me to the point of apathy. That's not normal. It's not normal to feel nothing all of the time. I started taking these kinds of medications as a child, and I missed a very important life stage because of them; emotional maturity. I never knew what that was, because my ability to even feel, was taken away. I had to learn emotional maturity in my late 20's, but only after I had taken myself off of the meds. It was terrible. Every emotion a person should have, hit me all at once and I didn't know what to do with them. It took about 4 years of adulthood to learn everything I missed regarding my emotions when I was young, but I'm more stable now, than I've ever been. No medications necessary.
    None of the medications that people can be prescribed for depression and mood stabilization will ever work the way professions claim they do. They aren't supposed to. They are meant to keep you sick, apathetic and s*icidal. You get them from one of the most corrupt organization in the world. Big Pharma. Um, hello.......our lives are not safe in the hands of people who value money more than human life.

      Are u able to function without medication?

      A good doctor I had some years ago said that "medicine is based on statistics, not individual cases" which is why you should get a pharmacogenomic analysis done. You may have a polymorphism of your cytochrome P450 enzymes that affect your ability to metabolize medications. Your reaction to the drugs could be due to accumulation of higher levels of medications that your liver doesn't clear as quickly as most people. You might also have MTHFR polymorphism that affect your ability to metabolise the folate you need to make neurotransmitters. Genesight was the one my doctor ordered.

      I've been on everything under the sun. Prozac, wellbutrin, respiridol, Lexapro, zoloft, you name it. They all made me feel the same way, which was nothing. I'd explain these things to my psychiatrist and he'd just increase the dose or switch medicines completely. I remember being so zombified by one of them that I was practically paralyzed to the point where I couldn't get out of bed at night to use the bathroom, and I'd wet the bed. As an adult, that's shameful.
      I do not take anything currently except for a slew of vitamins. Specifically B vitamins, D vitamins, Ashwagondha, and others. I've chosen the natural route, as far as meds go. I feel better than ever, as far as mental health goes. I also know from research that 1. "Chemical imbalances" don't exist, and 2. Depression is a direct result of your environmental conditions, not a mental disorder. So I make sure my environment is well cared for too. Well cleaned, and well decorated. It definitely helps keep the depression at bay.
      This works for me, but it may not work for everyone else. Just something to keep in mind

    Psilocybin (usually microdosing four times a week) has been a game changer for my migraines. It really helps me with the physical tiredness that I get often. It's great how it helps with mental disorders, but let's also not lose track how great they can be for physical issues. One thing I've also noticed is how great it is for putting on muscle, as it's an awesome anti-inflammatory.

    • @terence3769

      I fully agree with you! I notice that as well. I would call myself an experienced recreational/medical user of psychedelics including ketamine. Psilocybin really helps with using your energy in the right ways both physically and mentally. They are very "grounding" as I'd like to call it. You start to realize pretty quickly when you take them that you subconsciously have been screwing your mental health up for a long time by overthinking or not taking time to take deeper and more calculated breaths for example, whenever that becomes the new normal we get tired. It's almost like when you are sitting in one position for too long, your back will start to hurt. It's the same with neurons.
