Ketamine Explained, The Next Big Antidepressant | The War on Drugs

- For half a century, prohibition has been causing chaos and misery worldwide. Any attempt to shut down the drugs trade invariably sets off a chain of events that just makes things worse, leaving a trail of death, illness, violence, slavery, addiction, crime and inequality across the globe. The War On Drugs is a war in which everyone loses - except, in a weird kind of way, the drugs themselves.
It may lack the glamorous associations of cocaine and the hedonistic kudos of ecstasy, but ravers, doctors and therapists worldwide are united in their love for ketamine. The trippy anaesthetic has thrived despite global attempts to ban it and has overcome PR damage caused by teenage incontinence and knocked-out horses. Since it was first used by US field surgeons in the Vietnam War, the drug has quietly been winning battles in the War On Drugs across the planet, and today is adored by club kids zoning out at afterparties and pioneering psychotherapists alike.

I've done ketamine Infusion therapy for my PTSD, Depression and chronic pain. It absolutely saved me from the hell that is suicidal deep Depression
Definitely would love to see it as a mainstream treatment.
This bro same for me...at 42 I was getting finally ready to throw in the towel. Been on opiates since 19 from my military service to hardly any effect the anxiety and depression meds have rarely helped. Now with age things are worsening while I sit silently in my own nightmares unable to sleep withing in pain wish for death. I find no happiness in anything I love. Until 2 weeks ago when I had my first ketamine infusion. It's been a game changer but it hasnt lasted long but it gave me a break showed me I can still love things and myself. Has allowed me to sleep without nightmares. Medical science needs to know this medicine be it for pain or for mental health is the holy grail especially once its mastered. I read a peer reviewed article where they are studying using ketamine for treating severe ADD/ADHD apparently with good results.

For chronic pain it's amazing. After three brain surgeries and a failed back procedure within a year, I was starting to get ketamine infusions to leave the hospital. This was after they tried fentanyl, morphine, dilated.

Having been a member of The Cleveland Clinic’s Ketamine study around this time in 2018 (in an attempt to try to treat my OCD), I found that Ketamine is an extremely innocuous drug that when taken responsibly, can really help those suffering from mental illness.
Unfortunately for me, I was not one of the people it helped a ton. At its climax, I at most felt mildly tipsy.
I really don’t see any downside to this drug. I was always cleared to drive myself home right afterward so, technically with my current weight and height, I could theoretically get a DUI for having single beer. But after an hour of Ketamine, I was good to go.
If more medication like this were legal, I do not see people like myself needing to self-medicate as much with actual dangerously hard and fatal drugs or alcohol by any means.

After a dose I went into another room to select some vinyl to play (I’m a DJ) while selecting tunes I suddenly felt this woosh of disconnect from my physical body and my surroundings I somehow made my way back to the living room (in reality only about 6 second walk) the journey felt like I was in a floating Astro traveling time machine, upon arrival in what was meant to be the lounge area all the people that where there where there but the surroundings had completely changed we where all somewhere else somewhere vivid and vague that was the start of trip so intense I have difficulty putting into words. To say that I was not expecting that is the biggest understatement of life.

This is why I watch Vice! I learn so much. And it's super scary how the world is so reliant on drugs. The end of this video says it ALL!

The War on Drugs has been a war against people and it's shameful that people would rather disagree in a instant rather than find out why I'm right in that statement.
I’ve seen so many of my friends on this and have one currently addicted and refuses to stop or acknowledge how bad it is... I can’t get her to stop and we’ll I guess that’s her life...
That's pretty sad.
Same. I knew so many people who started off as just recreational users and now are addicted. One last lost his life due to suicide and the others are kinda down the same path
@Bejamin Parker 100% agree
Move on she’s a junkie now
@Bejamin Parker I am sorry to hear. The good thing about heroin is that if you went cold turkey, you wouldn't have severe side effects and wont die (like they do with alcohol/benzos). Its all a mind game
This is the old vice I like to see! Keep up the good work!
The algorithm is unbelievable!! I am an ER. Nurse. Just last night I was caring for a patient who suffered from major depressive disorder. I had a 15 minute conversation with the physician that I was working with about the work being done with ketamine to treat depression. I wake up this morning and this video pops up in my feed WTF???
Havent had K in about 20 years. One time i was watching a movie on it and thought it was real life lol.
Lol I've kholed and thought I was inside the TV
I was watching Oldboy then thought the bed turned in to a roller-coaster track. It was pretty intense 😂
@@bigtoe89 Woah I bet, Yeah I was watching resident evil 1 and thought I was underground with zombies.
Similar thing to me about 15yrs ago. Was watching the Simpson and I thought it was real and I was sitting down at the breakfast table with them.
Hahaha thats my favorite thing I explored this winter. But of course, for all people: leave a month between the sessions
K is the best option available to fight endless and ruthless rumination in the brain. The esketamine or SPRAVATO approved by the FDA has worked for me as well. Hopefully, infusion therapy will be covered by insurance.....someday.
SPRAVATO literally saved my life when nothing else could. I was fortunate enough to have it covered by insurance, most people aren't so lucky.
K injections lifted my PTSD. Life changing.
Have you tried kratom?

Funny how much the format of these videos gets in the way every single time.
When you're walking on ketamine. It feels like the world is bouncing up and down and you cant judge when your foot is going to hit the ground. Because in your doped up vision, your foot never left the ground but also never hit the ground either. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life was go up a double switch back staircase on ketamine. The staircase went from the ground floor to the third floor not accessing the second floor. So there were a lot of steps
While I recognize and appreciate the medical usage of this drug. I feel vice failed to adequately show the risks it poses on the unmonitored public along with its recreational usage.
Absolutely.
I was quite well-connected with harm reduction groups when I started dabbling with ket so I was fairly well-informed compared to many regulars.
I had some incredibly positive effects from my first two or three small sessions of it but then I had some insidious post-use depression which absolutely destroyed all mental health progress it had provided me with.
It was like the post-MDMA mid-week dumps, but slower and harder to recognise, plus seemingly far more aggressive depression than anything I’d had before.
Misinformation and ignorance, be it by the authorities or the public , poses risks
Exactly! I was surprised when this video ended. Like what was the point of this? All that was shown in this video says K is awesome. So why the war against it?
I have worked in private security 15 years. In my experience people on ket tend to be difficult to deal with. (non medicinal, non controlled dosage etc) I have seen everything from simply passing out to extreme violence. One guy took a dose in the bathroom then walked into a club delusional and attacked several people with a glass bottle.
While i can appreciate its use medicinally, like the vast majority of drugs careful moderation is the key. Too much of anything is bad, and with ket the dosage difference between a good time and the worst night of your life seems to be very small.
The public needs VICE to tell them ketamine use is risky? It’s something you put into your body…of course it’s risky. From water to Tylenol, everything comes with risk. VICE isn’t the voice you need to hear.
Ketamine infusions and nasal spray saved my life, by far the best thing I’ve ever used for PTSD, depression, and complex regional pain syndrome.
I'm finding ketamine as an intranasal formulation to be helpful with my patients. The issue I'm finding is that the relief from depression becomes addicting for some, and then the ketamine gets abused. Promising drug, when used as-prescribed.
As a veteran, I have been on my last leg mentally and physically. As of just recently the va did a iv infusion on for pain. While I will say it helped my back for about 2 weeks not my guts for my mental health it's a game changer. I feel alive. However that is starting to wain a bit. Maybe bc of my pain coming back. I hope this treatment continues and it can be mastered it is truly truly a game changer.
It’s so depressing to me that upon finishing my 4 ketamine treatments on Friday, I’m now in a TERRIBLE mood on Sunday. I was so hoping for relief and it seems I’m even worse. Feeling very tired and somewhat foggy and very irritated.
I put all my chips on this treatment working. I’m feeling so disappointed. So much despair
*****UPDATE!!! That funk was temporary and I’ve had much improvement since then. Very happy with my treatments. ****

They knocked me out with ketamine to put my ankle back into place after I dislocated it and broke my tibia and fibula. It was a horrible experience. I could see and hear everything but I couldn’t say anything. I felt like I was dead, I was ecstatic when I woke back up. They gave me morphine and fentanyl to try to ease my pain and they did nothing. I’ve been told by nurses and x ray techs that my fractures are pretty impressive.
Wait the K anesthetic was a horrible experience or just breaking your leg? I thought this was K's main usage, if you don't mind how was it bad for you? Being somewhat conscious of it?
@jk damn I'm in the hospital right now with same injury they gave me ketamine when I woke up from my first surgery in agony I enjoyed it tho anything to help that feeling of intense pain
Microdosing ketamine every few days as a sublingual tablet has absolutely changed my life. I have been on anti-depressants since I was 12 (17-18 years) and found some relief, but nothing that brought me any kind of real stability. With a number of attempts to end my life in my past, the ideations plagued me daily and the simple act of waking up in the morning was a battle. Since adding ketamine to my medication routine I feel a relief I could have only dreamed of prior. While I can't credit ketamine with all my success as I have also done intensive therapy, I don't know that I would be typing this from my own apartment pursuing a life I actually look forward to without it. I can finally see myself and the world around me without the shadow of harmful ideations plaguing me. I hope more research and development are done regarding ketamine, I wouldn't wish the chains of major depression on anyone.
(I should note that I have never really been "high" from it as my dose is fairly mild and I take it before I fall asleep, so I can't speak to any of the harmful side effects that were only briefly touched on.)
Me and my cousin did this one night we sat on his couch for hours an had the best time of our lives he is no longer here in this world but enjoyed the experience with him rip tim
Psychedelic’s definitely have potential to deal with mental health symptoms like anxiety and depression, I would like to try them again but it’s just so hard to source here
Psychedelics are the reason why i didn’t take my life when i was at my end. I was stripped of my ego and saw the beauty of life and interconnectivity and even though i still battle anxiety and depression, I’m doing better everyday and will never think in such a self destructive way again.
LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life. I became a better version of myself
This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body. A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. Now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before."

As a cactus botanist in SD where they grow like crazy... i can also add when making cuttings to regrow, cut them angular (like an inverted triangle) at the base to expose more of the core of the plant. It's better for the roots to come out of the core than the soft base as that is more prone to rot. it also seems to root faster. you no not need to use rooting hormones, they are not worth it and have not been worth while IMHO. Also, when planting; cover the roots in sand/fill the hole with sand, this also helps prevent rotting. They can grow 3-4 in one year without any fertilizer really, just use a mix of a 3:2:1 Perlite & vermiculite: dry (cactus) soil: peat moss or cocoa husk. You want that soil to stay light dry and aerated. (not compacted). They are very sensitive to too much sun, too much water, and bacteria. If you get nitrate burns or sun burn. lightly water and place in a dark ,dark, dark green house for a few days to a week. The bluing will return, more so for sunburn, less so for nitrate/fertilizer burn. The sun pushes out all the blue light, so moonlight is good for returning the blue color as well. Don't be afraid to use a shade tent if you live in a hot sunny area like san diego.
I had Ketamine for a really awful Cluster Headache once. Around five seconds after the injection, I felt like I had been transported to another world. It killed the pain immediately and the feeling only lasted maybe 10-15 mins tops before I was back to normal.
for headache does it work?
@@jaspergabriels8933 It does 100%, but I would only use it during the worst of the worst.
I've always been emotionally all over the place, but Ketamine eases your worries, just appreciate it and enjoy the moment
I have been on SSRIs & SNRIs for the last 20 years with zero luck. The only thing helping with my depression is the Adderall prescription coming along with them (and now Vyvanse due to the Nationwide Adderall Outage). I have been thinking of trying Ketamine, Psilocybin, or really anything as an alternative to the Effexor I am on now. Which I only continue to take, due the horrible withdrawal effects.
