So many carts are fake vitamin E carts were not made properly. I used one off the streets and had chest issues so I stopped. The ones I buy from dispensaries are good. I feel just fine using legit ones.
I worked in the legal cannabis market in California, and I can tell you that if you buy your carts from a licensed dispensary, you should be fine because California has strict testing requirements. We would have to test the raw materials (i.e. the cannabis trim) when we purchased it, and then we would have to test the final product before it goes out for sale. The big problem here is the over-taxing of cannabis products. Cannabis taxes are so high in the state that it forces legitimate producers to raise their prices to be able to make a profit. The consumer may balk at the high price at the legal dispensary and then go buy an untested, black market cart. That is where you begin to get into trouble.

I mean I thought hell yeah 3 for the price of one how could I pass it? well I think it was around that time I started to feel sick like I didn’t even feel like smoking anymore so I stopped for weeks. mind her I’m a daily marijuana smoker since middle school. that was crazy for me to just drop it out of no where. I think I stopped in time to where I didn’t get full on sick like this guy here. thank god insane man..

nah the process of vaporizing does not discriminate if it's sugar water, nicotine, or THC. Seems fair enough to call it a vape cart. The moral of the story anyways was to buy a legitimate product, this goes for nicotine too.

Psilocybin saved my life. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years and after Psilocybin treatment I will be 3 years clean in September. I have zero cravings. This is something that truly needs to be more broadly used in addiction treatment.

I know I’m late, but this actually happened to me. It was one , if not the worst experience of my life. I hit a fake cart, and ended up waking up at 3 am suffocating. Started needing to sleep standing up. Went to the hospital 5 times

There was a point in my life where i smoked carts to an absurd degree, while what i got was from dispensaries and i didn't have to rlly worry about bad carts i was pretty passionate about this problem. People may not remember how this was blamed completely on nicotine vapes, kids blamed it on nicotine (namely juul) to avoid drug charges and deflect responsibility and were encouraged to because of government battles with nic vapes and was the push they needed to ban flavored juuls. An interesting correlation people may not know is the research against these products are typically government ran, funded or affiliated and the state government gets a payout almost like a royalty from ciggarette companies for cancer treatments, and with the rise of vapes ciggarette companies made less money, the state got less of a payout and bans were placed on a safer (but not healthy) alternative despite the epidemic being intrinsicly linked to another product as shown in the video, while it could be chalked to misinformation and initial hysteria i found it interesting to follow the money involved.

I think what happened with the whole vaping scare is someone made a batch of bad carts for reasons and a lot of people got sick and some died and the tobacco industry saw an opportunity to get rid of one of their competition (nicotine vaping) and bribed the media to push hard how "vaping is dangerous". Well, vaping certain things is dangerous, but smoking tobacco is a lot more dangerous than vaping. Whenever something is illegal despite a demand, there will be some suppliers who will cut corners for profit at the risk of the users. This already happens with legal stuff, but not quite so bad.
daniel 559 it was probably an unlicensed shop. The legal shops are way more reliable as the people they do business with are actually inspected. Everything is regulated so it’s more legit .

This isn't necessarily true. If you do your research on vendors on the darknet you can buy a safe product. Just don't go onto a market and search in "carts" and then pick the first guy. ALWAYS do research on vendors. I've bought from a vendor before that has thousands upon thousands of good reviews and he didn't have really anyone talking bad about him BUT he sold me a fake Stiiizy (in his defense it was still a safe cart, just wasn't authentic like he said it was). So even if they still do have thousands of good reviews, you still don't know what you're getting exactly. Honestly it isn't even that hard, you can literally go onto dread and ask who is the safest person to order carts from and they'll just tell you reputable people. (There are really only 4-5 reputable cart vendors on darknet markets though) Edited for typos also this" NEVER EVER EVER buy "Dank Vapes" or Exotics. Those are FAKE.

@@AnantMall Vapes have been around for roughly 15 years and they've studied the effects of vaping for the past 5 years. The results show that it's far more safer alternative than smoking. You won't stop people smoking, it's better to have a safer alternative than to try and ban it. People do more drugs when it's illegal than when it's legal.
Vitamin E oil liquefies at body temp. You can't tell 100%, but if you roll the cart in your hands for a few minutes and notice it getting substantially more liquid, it's been cut with something (cannabis oil doesn't substantially change viscosity till higher temps). This comment is gold, thank you. I'd like to ask, how do you define "substantial"? Bc I did this with my almost-full cart (already passed the smell, taste, and eye/viscosity test) did this for about 5 minutes. For the last 2 minutes instead of rolling it between my hands, i held it upside down, wrapped in my hand, in my pocket. Kept it nice and warm. Before i started doing this, the wax was all at the bottom and the top 10% of the cart was empty. When i pulled it out, the wax was still in the same spot for the MOST part, but that 10% had moved down and to the side a small amount, and the shape of the bubble had changed a little. But at room temperature (~70degrees) it's a complete brick, bubbles take >10 minutes to go from bottom to top. What do you think? Would love to hear your thoughts.
The ones I get probably aren't exactly what they claim but there still good. Just have to know how to tell really. If it's liquid moving you got screwed

Most guys making carts are just using pure THC distillate and weed derived terpenes so you're getting a clean product, it's the exact same thing as what a dispensary can sell depending on the quality of the distillate they used it's THC purity usually ranging from 70-92% I'd say most carts you come across are 75-82 percent pure. Only name brand carts from a dispensary are truly 92 pure most likely.

Great episode. Cleared up a lot of confusion for people I think. A lot of demonization and assumptions are still prevalent… but understandably given the scare/risks on BM gear. I have to say your expert at the end seemed like the real deal and straight up. Like him. Def someone I’d work with if I had to.
here is why it doesn’t show up very much anymore, they kind of got it here but not directly. tons of people who made carts used the vitamin E acetate relatively innocently because it worked to fool the “bubble test” and make it thicker. once it came out that it’s what caused the disease, almost everyone stopped using it. why would you want your carts to be known for killing people? most of the cases showing up afterwards are from carts from that time period that have been sold through like 5 or 6 peoples hands and yet to be used. i’m sure a small amount of people still use it in their new ones but barely any. still be careful

@@peter_420 Vaping provides a layer of concealment in public. But just so you know smoking the plant has more carcinogens than cigarettes. The best thing to do would be to vape the plant material in like a volcano or pax.
I got permanent lung damage due to a local vape shop selling counterfeit products, every once in a while. I still cough out thick black chunks. Nothing was done about it, the only time that shop was investigated was when they were selling vape products to middle school students, who now endure the same as I have.
I remember buying a couple of things off eBay and when I got the vape it plain didn’t work, I complained to the guy that the label didn’t scan and it was counterfeit. He insisted he orders it directly from the company and he also included free ejuice. At first I tried vaping it but it was too sweet for me and abandoned it… didn’t even want his mystery juice he claimed he mixed himself. It occurred to me that buying from a stranger was a bad idea and that was the last time I did that. I was happy to buy a better vape from local vape shops that opened up, and bought supplies to mix juice myself. Heck I even got a free vype/vuse at a show (it’s like Juul) and I was super impressed how quiet and good it tasted but it was too expensive to purchase regularly. When it was all over the news I knew the issue was probably those mystery suppliers, and it’s garbage that Juul got the hit for it.
This video may have saved my life. I was trying a new cart from a government regulated dispensary where I live. At first I didn't notice much but after a few days I started to feel pressure on my chest, significant difficulty breathing and a noticeable cottonmouth . This video showed up in my recommended feed and I was horrified to find that THC carts were the leading cause of the COPD/Vape illness deaths that had been happening. I always thought it was just nicotine ones. When they showed the segment on Greg, he mentioned the very same symptoms I was experiencing, which absolutely freaked me out as I was using the cart at the time. I immediately got rid of it and had to ride it out till I could go see my doctor. This was like almost a week ago and I am currently using two puffers daily to help me get back to normal. I even went to the ER one night because I was experiencing a hard time breathing. While I am not completely out of it yet I am definitely feeling like my normal self again and will never take breathing for granted ever again. Thanks, Vice for spreading the message. Whoever else is reading this should really think twice about the carts they are using and make sure they are completely safe, because you never know.

Right, that's why when you look at the packaging or menus online they all say "contains NO vitamin E". I'm sure there were other carts with other crap in them but this was the main culprit

There was a point in my life where i smoked carts to an absurd degree, while what i got was from dispensaries and i didn't have to rlly worry about bad carts i was pretty passionate about this problem. People may not remember how this was blamed completely on nicotine vapes, kids blamed it on nicotine (namely juul) to avoid drug charges and deflect responsibility and were encouraged to because of government battles with nic vapes and was the push they needed to ban flavored juuls. An interesting correlation people may not know is the research against these products are typically government ran, funded or affiliated and the state government gets a payout almost like a royalty from ciggarette companies for cancer treatments, and with the rise of vapes ciggarette companies made less money, the state got less of a payout and bans were placed on a safer (but not healthy) alternative despite the epidemic being intrinsicly linked to another product as shown in the video, while it could be chalked to misinformation and initial hysteria i found it interesting to follow the money involved.

I think what happened with the whole vaping scare is someone made a batch of bad carts for reasons and a lot of people got sick and some died and the tobacco industry saw an opportunity to get rid of one of their competition (nicotine vaping) and bribed the media to push hard how "vaping is dangerous". Well, vaping certain things is dangerous, but smoking tobacco is a lot more dangerous than vaping. Whenever something is illegal despite a demand, there will be some suppliers who will cut corners for profit at the risk of the users. This already happens with legal stuff, but not quite so bad.
This is exactly why I switched from buying carts off the streets to dispensary.

This isn't necessarily true. If you do your research on vendors on the darknet you can buy a safe product. Just don't go onto a market and search in "carts" and then pick the first guy. But at room temperature (~70degrees) it's a complete brick, bubbles take >10 minutes to go from bottom to top. What do you think? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Most guys making carts are just using pure THC distillate and weed derived terpenes so you're getting a clean product, it's the exact same thing as what a dispensary can sell depending on the quality of the distillate they used it's THC purity usually ranging from 70-92% I'd say most carts you come across are 75-82 percent pure. Only name brand carts from a dispensary are truly 92 pure most likely.

One example is for Marie Antoinette, when newspapers reported that her reaction to her advisors telling her that the people were dying of hunger and couldn't buy bread, was "let them eat cakes". Completely false, but it stuck. It sucks, but we should be aware that the business of the news (whether paper or tv) is to sell, and mostly to sell ads. The general public is not the client. Companies who place their ads are.
As for their reporting on vaping the problem here is that it's worse than just spreading misinformation or lies. The problem is that it could possibly have cost some their health, and that could potentially be considered criminal. But hey they now get away with doxxing, so I guess they can almost get away with anything.

Great episode. Cleared up a lot of confusion for people I think. A lot of demonization and assumptions are still prevalent… but understandably given the scare/risks on BM gear. here is why it doesn’t show up very much anymore, they kind of got it here but not directly. tons of people who made carts used the vitamin E acetate relatively innocently because it worked to fool the “bubble test” and make it thicker. once it came out that it’s what caused the disease, almost everyone stopped using it. why would you want your carts to be known for killing people? most of the cases showing up afterwards are from carts from that time period that have been sold through like 5 or 6 peoples hands and yet to be used. i’m sure a small amount of people still use it in their new ones but barely any. still be careful

I got permanent lung damage due to a local vape shop selling counterfeit products, every once in a while. I still cough out thick black chunks. Nothing was done about it, the only time that shop was investigated was when they were selling vape products to middle school students, who now endure the same as I have.

I remember buying a couple of things off eBay and when I got the vape it plain didn’t work, I complained to the guy that the label didn’t scan and it was counterfeit. He insisted he orders it directly from the company and he also included free ejuice. At first I tried vaping it but it was too sweet for me and abandoned it… didn’t even want his mystery juice he claimed he mixed himself. It occurred to me that buying from a stranger was a bad idea and that was the last time I did that. I was happy to buy a better vape from local vape shops that opened up, and bought supplies to mix juice myself. Heck I even got a free vype/vuse at a show (it’s like Juul) and I was super impressed how quiet and good it tasted but it was too expensive to purchase regularly. When it was all over the news I knew the issue was probably those mystery suppliers, and it’s garbage that Juul got the hit for it.
This video may have saved my life. I was trying a new cart from a government regulated dispensary where I live. At first I didn't notice much but after a few days I started to feel pressure on my chest, significant difficulty breathing and a noticeable cottonmouth . This video showed up in my recommended feed and I was horrified to find that THC carts were the leading cause of the COPD/Vape illness deaths that had been happening. I always thought it was just nicotine ones. When they showed the segment on Greg, he mentioned the very same symptoms I was experiencing, which absolutely freaked me out as I was using the cart at the time. I immediately got rid of it and had to ride it out till I could go see my doctor. This was like almost a week ago and I am currently using two puffers daily to help me get back to normal. I even went to the ER one night because I was experiencing a hard time breathing. While I am not completely out of it yet I am definitely feeling like my normal self again and will never take breathing for granted ever again. Thanks, Vice for spreading the message. Whoever else is reading this should really think twice about the carts they are using and make sure they are completely safe, because you never know.
