I recently (two months ago) picked up a new Zodiac SeaWolf Topper Edition (Pepsi). The same exact thing happened when I resized mine, broke immediately in the same place. I was still able to eventually fix, but I should not have had to go to my spare parts bin to fix a new bracelet. I size bracelets all the time so I feel confident it was not user error. So discouraged by it, that I have more or less shelved it until I find the right bracelet or strap. Luckily, I did not have any issues with alignment on the dial.
The bracelet I can forgive if it was a defect in the metal. There is really no way for Zodiac to find that, but the dial not aligning is purely on Zodiac. Their QA should have caught that.
This doesn’t surprise me. Modern Zodiac watches have been known for reliability issues, especially the ones running STP movements. While I haven’t had any failures with my Super Sea Wolf No Date’s STP 3-13, the crown stem does fail to engage the hacking lever at times, and the hand winding also starts binding up occasionally, but my friend’s STP 3-13 in his date Super Sea Wolf self destructed, forcing him to junk the entire movement, and have his watchmaker install a Sellita SW-200 with a couple of modifications to accommodate the movement. Buyer beware when it comes to Zodiac, or ANY watches running STP movements, which is a shame, because I LOVE the size and color designs of Zodiac. Sellita and ETA are FAR better choices. I’d say stick to Oris or Sinn instead of Zodiac.
My chronometer tissot powermatic 80 luxury had the the damned balance staph come out in its own. Repair.? $450. How much I paid? $700. Getting it fixed? Never
@@Bama_Law Thats why Im giving a pass on all Hamiltons,Midos,Tissots,Rados,Certinas and Longines, until Swatch Group will not make Powermatics available to buy on my own
I have this watch and ran into the exact same issue with the final threaded pin next to the clasp. It only bent slightly so the link didn’t fall apart but I’m still very annoyed. Apart from that, I think the bracelet is actually pretty nice. I wore it on the bracelet for a week before going with a brown leather strap just like you. I love the aesthetic and am daily wearing it over an Omega, Rolex, IWC, 2 JLCs and many others.
Agree completely - unacceptable lack of quality control (at any price), but insultingly poor QC at $1795. Not using screw pins is also unacceptable at this price.
I agree that screw pins are cooler and look more expensive but pin and collar is actually the more reliable option. I would rather have a better QC control than that...
I have a Zodiac Seawolf GMT (Toppers Crystal Pepsi version), and can confirm that the lume and applied indices do not line up on mine either. It's less noticeable because it doesn't have that GMT chapter ring, pushing the lume to the edge of the dial -- I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out. :P My bracelet has been fine, but you are right, janky pin & collar is not okay at an $1,800 asking price. I don't think I would buy another Zodiac new, but I like this one enough to keep it for the time being.
Love, love the honesty!! So hard to find RUclipsr who is not biased, but also, does good in depth analysis. Definitely sidestepping Zodiac after this review - absolutely awful QC. I also took your review to heart about Yema - and decided against buying them, think I dodged a bullet there too!! Please, please keep up the HONEST reviews 👍🏼👍🏼💯 Subscribed! A discontinued quartz model Grandhydra still can be found new for around $200-250. And I think this is one the best deals for everyday quartz watch with some vintage aesthetic.
I just picked up a green dial grandhydra. Really like it. I was wondering what the deal was with the grandhydra if it was actually discontinued or if it was a model they just don’t sell direct and only sell wholesale bc it’s easy to find them all NIB
I like the look of this Zodiac. After watching the review and for $1800, I wouldn't throw down that much cash knowing the reliability issues. They should really have their problem points all ironed out if their asking price is that high
Lots of things assembled during the pandemic are not made well. Mostly due to material shortages and forced shut downs in the Manufacturing process. Not sure if that is the case here. Just one idea.
Jory broke the watch....you can see it in his eyes when he talks about the bent link. Like something that would happen while trying to remove something the wrong way :)
About 6 months ago I bought the Neon Super Sea Wolf GMT, and sadly the exact same thing happened with a link in the bracelet. I have had no other issues, and usually wear it on a neon Green tropic strap, but was disappointed with the link issue.
I bought the jet o matic with the stp 3-13 had to have replaced with Stelita movement. Now the screw down crown seems cross threaded. I sent it off first to the warrant dept and they were unable to fix the movement.
That's very disappointing. I absolutely love Zodiac designs and how they aren't afraid to be creative with color. I've had a Sea Wolf on my want list for a while now. I would hope, if I saved up enough to buy one, it wouldn't have those issues. It would definitely be a watch I would need to see in person first.
Bought a Sea Wolf in November 2022; (STP 3-13). It stopped 3 months later. Sent it in and they sent a new one. Wore the new one for about six weeks and then the timing started shifting from fast to slow, then fast. It was odd. I sent it back and haven’t heard anything yet, but I feel it’s going to be disappointing.
I recently got a Seadragon Chronograph with the blue dial because I fell in love with that retro-looking vibe. But if Fossil wants to cash up on the heritage of the brand, they really need to get it together. Sadly have to agree with you, those details are unacceptable at such price range.
Not the same watch but I got a Hodinkee super seawolf GMT Brand new and it had issues with the bracelet right out of the Box also. I had to send it back for warranty repair. Very disappointing
My Zodiac Super Seawolf is less than 4 months old and it stopped winding yesterday. It’s extremely difficult to turn the crown and when it eventually does i can feel the rotor turning with it. I emailed Hodinkee but I’m guessing I won’t hear back until after the thanksgiving holidays. I assume I’ll have to send it in under warranty for a service which is a shame because otherwise I really like the watch.
I have a zodiac olympos and the date wheel wouldn’t flip over from 7 to 8. There was something binding it up at those dates. Sent it back under warranty and it works now but it’s ridiculous that an $800 watch would have that issue straight from the factory
Worldtimers are BLOOODY GOOOD, and this one look BLEEEEDING COOL, but, yessss, i agree: 1700and more USD or Euros...a bit out of a clean and smooth logical target 🦍🦍🦍
That watch literally looks like it was designed by 5 or 6 hipsters who happen to hate each other . If that watch were a car , it would be a Mazda RX-8 . The leather strap is gorgeous though .
I agree with you that the Zodiac watches are not well put together. I had a Zodiac GMT and found it to be less refined and had a gritty bezel action and wasn't a big fan of how the movement felt either
The design is nice, but all things considered a Citizen BJ7100-23X is a cheaper and better watch. At its price-point, Zodiac is knocking on the door of Mühle-Glashütte or Longines or Nomos, but quality-wise it is more comparable to Accurist, at best.
The bracelet is a problem for me as well. Nearly the same problem but mine was the stretch link that just blew up! Too bad as it's cool looking but that's about it.
Wow this is the first time that a reviewer mention to have this problems with this Zodiac, that’s very bad for a watch to have that many problems and sad because overall it’s looks good.
I picked up a Jetomatic, own a Grandhydra, and an Air Dragon. Never had a problem. I’m surprised, by the price for one thing, and the bracelet issue is just unacceptable. The lume marker would make me itch. Nice piece if they got it right.
I just got my first swiss movement watch last week, a SSW 53 compression (ZO9289.) I fell in love with it as soon as i opened the box, literally everything i wanted in a watch, looked perfect, wore great, and very comfortable strap. I went to hack it to set the time and the seconds hand kept moving, then fluttered backwards before finally coming to a stop. I brushed it off hoping it was just a fluke. Then i went to wind the movement and the crown was so hard to wind that if i had put any more pressure id probably have broken something. It went back to Zodiac for a refund and im extremely disappointed. I expected was more from Zodiac, especially in a $1,200 watch. If i didnt love the watch so much i wouldnt be disappointed, but of course it had to happen in something i really, really liked.
Curious what Zodiac has to say about your review. And if they will be sending you another bracelet. I could live with the indexes not lining up, but only on a watch at a quarter of that price.
I thought Zodiac was a semi high end watch maker? Its a nice watch but the higher the price the higher the level of attention to detail and QC needs to be. I would rather have a Tissot if this is the standard.

This really is a “fake world time”. Usually the world time function needs to have a quick set hour hand and even quick set time zone function. They really just slapped a world time ring on a gmt watch, which is atrocious for a watch priced this high.
