      Views to your shop have NO negative impact on you. At all. Non. Zilch. Zero. So this person is simply wasting their time. Think about every time Etsy features a seller in their emails or marketing. If conversion rates had an impact, they'd basically be KILLING every shop they feature.
      The overall "conversion rate" you can view in your Etsy stats has NO impact on your shop/rank/etc. What DOES have an impact is conversion from search. For example, if I search for "gold necklace" on Etsy and I click YOUR listing, then click OFF that listing, basically it tells Etsy that your listing was not what I was looking for. So this can have a slight impact on that SPECIFIC listing. On the flip side, if I search "gold necklace" on Etsy, click YOUR listing, then buy it - this sends positive signals to Etsy because the keywords you used in your listing (gold necklace) resulted in a sale.
      This is one of the most common things that I see miscommunicated by Etsy coaches, influencers, and RUclipsrs.

      I feel unsafe on Etsy, if you get someone that wants to harass you, there’s nothing you can do to stop it. What If someone had a stalker or just someone generally wanting to just be mean? I had a women that had me in tears and in not a good state of mind, sure I can block, but she can still message, she can edit feedback so I get notifications, she’s only blocked from seeing updates. I agree this should be addressed because it does happen a lot, I’m in a couple seller groups and chats and it’s disturbing how much it happens. • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад +3

      It doesn't really matter. 🙂 They all work about the same. A comma utilizes a little less space, whereas a forward slash / will require 3 total characters, assuming you're adding a space before and after the slash. In terms of the algorithm, it's all the same though. So go with whatever looks the nicest to you.

    I’ve had it with Etsy now. What with huge fee if someone clicks an outside link and now this not insuring packages over 250 - and just dipping straight into your account to refund the customer without even consulting you? And then letting them keep your expensive item?! Etsy is like a massive freebie palace for scammers now. And even if you delete any listings over 250, what if someone’s multiple purchases add up to more? My friend lost a gorgeous ring ( 600£!) because the post was a little slow… it was insured, signed for, but a week late. Etsy have done it now - that’s it for me.

    Hey Starla! Thanks for all your content! I’m a better seller because of you! So, since you asked, is it too soon to start with Christmas? How much time should we spend setting up for it versus Halloween?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад +3

      It's never too early to start planning for the Holidays. Especially since we see the initial searches for "Christmas" on Etsy start in July! I recommend getting your fall/Halloween products out no later than June/early July. Then begin pivoting your focus toward your holiday marketing plan. Ideally, you'll want to launch those holiday products around September at the latest. You don't need to push social media marketing for them this early (mid/late October is fine if you typically cater to Halloween shoppers through October as well), but right after Halloween, it's officially "Christmas crunch time". So having ALL of your marketing planned out through the summer can definitely save you a lot of stress come holiday time!

    Safest way to make changes to a listing is to copy the listing and the make changes to the copy. Then you have to wait the 60-90 days to see if the changes to the copied listing is better or worse. It's a slow process, but way better than messing with the original.

    @Starla Moore Talk more about title generation some of the tools add bars between keyword pairs some add commas, personally think you should just cram as much in there as possible. Also if it is a t-shirt or mug does that need to be in the title?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад

      How you choose to separate out titles doesn't matter. The algorithm sees it all the same either way, so just go with what looks best. And yes. If you're selling a mug, "mug" absolutely needs to be in your title. Your title should consist of your "superstar keywords", which are basically what you want to be known for. So these terms need to describe exactly what your item is.

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад

      Absolutely! The rank checker is showing you what page of Etsy search (and position, which is what "row" you're shown in) your listing would be located on if Etsy's layer of personalization was not applied. This data comes right from Etsy's API, and it can help to give you an idea of which of your listings are well-optimized, and which may need work. If a listing is on page 1, 2, or even 3, you've probably done a pretty good job of optimizing your listing. But if you've got listings all the way back on page 20 that aren't getting traffic or sales, it may be a good idea to work on their tags and titles. I talk a bit more about rank and the rank checker tool in this video: ruclips.net/video/mQy1BfF67Os/видео.html

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад +1

      Uploading listings is unfortunately not a remedy, though many coaches claim that it is. There's no impactful reason to constantly upload listings as a way to regain traction. The unfortunate reality is that spring and summer on Etsy are slow. Over at eRank, we are seeing the usual "drop" that we observe nearly every year across most industries. And it isn't just Etsy. We see this drop across all ecommerce, as people spend more time outside, vacationing, etc. Sales tend to pick back up around August. In the meantime, I recommend that sellers drive a bit of their own traffic and work on building up a good social media presence during the slow season. I talk about the best ways to utilize the summer slump in this video: ruclips.net/user/liven6M0UPl3BMA?feature=share

    Well, I stepped on one of the landmines. After using consulting the Erank oracle, I changed all my below grade 'A' listing into grade 'A'. (Which was pretty much all of them, including a couple of our best sellers)
    Of course that meant changing the titles and tags. I kept most of the keywords the same, I just made the titles more human-like and added words to the tags or just added more tags to each listing.
    Fingers 🤞 for the next 60 - 90 days. 🙁

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад

      Keep in mind that eRank's grading system is not measuring the success of your keywords. It is simply a checklist that helps sellers to follow Etsy's best practices. Over at eRank, we see listings with TERRIBLE letter grades sell 1,000s of times per day. So think of grades as a guideline to help you when creating a new listing or improving a listing that isn't selling. We've actually tried to get rid of the grading system a few times because we understand that it can be confusing for sellers but every time we do, people get super mad and demand we put them back. 😂 So we've started putting a big disclaimer at the top of the screen to not touch listings that are selling.

    • @StarlaMoore

      Altering descriptions likely won't hurt you, as Etsy does not use descriptions for query matching. They use them to understand additional context about your product. So adding something to your listings shouldn't have an impact, but as always, it may be better to add the text slowly by doing maybe 100 listings at a time... just in case.

    Hi Starla!
    Absolutely love your videos!
    I have one question and couldn't find an answer - what are your benchmarks in terms of views/clicks to competition you look for while researching keywords with eRank? Like when we should think that there's an opportunity and when you feel like market is saturated already? I've seen you guys commenting a lot how some numbers seem ok and some not ok-ish, but I haven't seen you mentioning good "rule of the thumb" ratio. Thank you very, very much!

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад

      Honestly- there isn't one. If you watch the tutorials in my free SEO toolbox, I always recommend a mix of keywords, ranging from high to low competition. There is no magic benchmark or universal rate of searches/clicks/competition because every listing on Etsy will rank differently, depending entirely on the history of the shop that has posted that listing. This is due to each shop's personal "Customer and Marketplace Experience Score", as well as individual "Listing Quality scores". And I know how confusing that sounds - but it's only confusing when you think too hard about it! Instead, it's better to experiment. To test. To monitor your results. And to pivot every 4 months if you do not see results.
      I'd definitely check out my SEO toolbox here: bit.ly/EtsyNoodle
      Then follow that up with last week's live listing optimization demonstration, just to see how little I truly pay attention to competition when selecting keywords and building titles and tags: ruclips.net/video/dwJabC-ATX8/видео.html

      Descriptions DO hold weight on the algorithm but not very much and not enough that minor tweaking will have any negative impact. So as long as you aren't removing essential keywords (the ones from your title), you should be fine to revise your descriptions. Apparently, Einstein isn’t in the public Domain! So I had to take down my shirt that sold 2x. And one other design that sold that I no longer wanted to take a chance with. It was a Marvel reference- a quote. I am much better about things now. EVERYTHING is original and checked and double checked for copyrights. But I have not sold anything since end of Feb. Is it possible I messed up my “standing” in the algorithm by deactivating two listings that sold? I hope I have expressed this clearly. I am nervous I may have hurt myself while trying to make positive changes in my store. May I get your opinion?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад

      If you already have the primary terms related to tarot readings in your tags and titles, I'd branch out and start thinking about your target audience and keywords related to them. Could you target witchy/wicca/pagan audiences with keywords related to them? And when all else fails, could you add some listings for products related to your niche? For example, could you create a PDF guide to tarot reading to offer as a digital download? Could you create digital art prints related to your niche? Could you create digital positive mantra cards that they can print at home? Could you create a checklist of ways to clear negative energy from the home to create a more positive environment? There are a lot of ways to expand while still remaining true to your brand! 💛

      It just depends on how long they've sat inactive. Etsy's algorithm relies on positive signals based on shopper interaction with listings in search (clicks, favorites, purchases, reviews). So if a listing is inaccessible for an extended amount of time, whether it be due to selling out, vacation more, or being deactivated, shoppers can't interact and because of that, you cannot maintain your listing quality score. My biggest tip for reviving listings is to heavily promote them on social media in order to regain activity. If you can get that listing to sell a few times, it will usually help to restore your search ranking.

    Someone said when you first open your shop to only put one thing in your shop and then put one thing in your shop till you get to 100 listings. Is this a good idea?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад +1

      That is a common myth. Etsy says that "activity" in your shop is good. But "listing every day" is not the ONLY way to generate activity, nor is it a sustainable strategy. Eventually, you will run out of listings. Typically this is advice given by "get rich quick" RUclipsrs who teach QUANTITY rather than QUALITY. But if you look at the top 100 sellers on Etsy (you can do this with eRank's Top Sellers report), NONE of them do this.
      The BEST signals you can send to Etsy are through sales and positive reviews of your listings. Both of these things help grow your listing quality scores, which encourages Etsy to rank your listings higher and show them to MORE people. It's much better to get those items listed (they can't sell if they aren't listed), then spend time on things like social media marketing to encourage sales, boosting your listing quality scores.
      Nowhere does Etsy say that "listing daily" helps your shop.

      It's fine to edit existing listings that you've added from your POD company. Just don't edit the tags and titles of anything that is selling well. In my experience, the tags, titles, and descriptions provided by most POD companies are not well optimized. So I would always go back and manually edit them.

    Heyo! I've been wanting to redo my shop branding and change my shop name, but I have over 2k business cards left with an old QR code leading to my shop. I haven't been able to get a clear answer from etsy so I was hoping you might have any info, do old shop links automatically redirect to the new shop link?
    But also the reason for my rebrand: I have a fairly successful sticker/stationery/print shop that I started sharing with my friends last year. So far it's all been under my name so we wanted to rebrand to include all of us, but recently I started making resin craft and jewelry. I think the best course of action is to separate the shops, but I don't know if we should start a separate collective shop and move every listing (astronomical work, starting fresh from new quality scores D:) so I can keep my old name for my jewelry.

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад

      Etsy says, "If you change your shop name, your shop’s URL is automatically updated to reflect this. The old URL with the previous name will automatically redirect visitors to your shop." You can find this information here: help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000338087-What-s-the-Link-for-My-Shop-?segment=selling
      As for your 2nd question, it's TRULY up to you. If the target audience is the same and the resin products have a similar vibe/aesthetic/target audience as your existing products, I see no reason that you couldn't keep them in one shop if you wanted to. 🙂

    Hi :) Is it allowed to use brand/software icons as a small part of listing's photos to let clients know what apps they need to open or use digital file? I mean main logo icons of adobe, canva, xodo, etc. I've seem some people with huge and popular shops do that. Likewise, I am not going to sell these icons, it is supposed to be just for main listing's photo.

    • @StarlaMoore

      That will be up to each individual company's licensing agreements. So you'll need to contact each company directly to ask. Some may already have legal pages dedicated to explaining how their branding assets can be used. 🙂

    Do these rules apply, hard and fast, to a brand new shop and seller? I just opened my shop last week. At the moment, I have 6 listings and will likely add a couple more in the next few days.
    Is the 60-90 day rule still golden for a new shop or does it get tweaked a bit? For example, is the window longer or shorter?
    I'm willing to wait it out, I just never imagined it would take 2-3 months. I want this to be a successful part of my wood craft business so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I think I got more out of this 7 minutes than any other video I've watched so far. Thanks.

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад

      60-90 days is for all new listings. The age of your shop does not matter. This is how long it takes Etsy to fully assess your listing, assign you a listing quality score, and ultimately decide what your listing "is" and who should see the listings. But this absolutely does NOT mean that your listings won't sell during this time. Etsy is simply moving the listing around for this period of time, showing it to different groups of people. Which is a good thing. Especially if your listing sells during this time frame, because basically this tells Etsy that the item is in demand... which will lead Etsy to show it to even more people. I cover a bit more about this process in the free SEO toolbox I mention in the video. The first item in that toolbox is actually an Etsy algorithm crash course, which explains how the algorithm works and how you can appeal to all 7 factors Etsy uses to rank your listings in search.

    • @awlthatwoodcrafts8911
      @awlthatwoodcrafts8911 Год назад

      @@StarlaMoore cool. Thanks for the response. I signed up for the toolbox, I just need to get started on it.
      So, what you're saying is that Etsy doesn't take the seller into account when it comes to ranking a listing? For example, if I'm selling the same product as a 10-year veteran and we're using the same title and keywords (I know, what are the odds, but trying to compare apples to apples), the 10-year veteran won't get a boost because of their status as a seller over me?

  • @lacywallace

    After I post a new listing, I tend to tweak it throughout the day. Is this a problem and will it really interfere with Etsy trying to score and rank my new listing, or is it okay as long as I’m only messing with it that first day? Thanks!

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад +1

      I guess my question is... why not save it as a draft while tweaking then publish once you're done? The quick answer is, I'm not sure. But Etsy DOES begin immediately trying to assess where you're listing belongs, so I can only speculate that tweaking nonstop is interrupting that process. So I'd definitely save it as a draft and publish once you're finished.

    Does the "do not touch a listing that is selling" still apply to a listing that is selling one every three weeks or less? Or is it safe to make changes to those to see if my sales for those items increase?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Год назад +1

      I think that depends. I advise not touching listings that are "selling well". And "selling well" will be very specific to YOU. Do you have other listings that sell more frequently than the listings you're interested in editing? Are you okay with potentially losing the one sale every three weeks for that specific listing (editing keywords is ALWAYS a gamble), then yes. If it's the ONLY listing in your shop that is currently selling though, I'd leave it alone.
