What does an expansion valve do?
A thermal expansion valve or thermostatic expansion valve is a component in vapor-compression refrigeration and air conditioning systems that controls the amount of refrigerant released into the evaporator and is intended to regulate the superheat of the refrigerant that flows out of the evaporator to a steady value.
The expansion valve operates under high pressures and is temperature sensitive, improper working conditions, as well as impurities inside the loop, can cause its deregulation and malfunction. If the expansion valve is stuck open or clogged, the AC system won't cool properly and can overheat the compressor.

Hi, would it affect cooling performance if you don’t reuse cork tape

Hi Frank, sorry for the late. I'm glad you already had your answer from AutoShopDream.
By the way, the functioning of Expansion Valve can be affected by the non use of cork tape.
(Not Activating / Deactivating properly and passing More / Less refrigerant than expected)
But it not means that it will can be felt in terms of performance in practice.

@@hieih thanks for your input I didn’t know what it was at the time of replacing my evaporator I’m sure since the manufacturer put it that it served a purpose I’ll put it now that I know what it is thanks.
